Remarriage Failed Again Today

Chapter 639: Why Pretend to Be Kind and Pure?

Chapter 639: Chapter 639: Why Pretend to Be Kind and Pure?

Upon hearing this, Nathaniel Locke glanced toward Vivian Yates and said meaningfully, "I’ve known your brother for years, and I’ve never known him to make empty promises."

Ashley Grant was taken aback by his words.

’Now that he mentioned it, she realized it was true.’

’Her brother might have a terrible temper... but he’d never once gone back on his word.’

’So, would he really stick up for her?’

’How would he do it?’

’The very thought of it was thrilling!’

...

After spending the afternoon on the mountain, the group prepared to head back around four o’clock.

The sky had already started to turn gray, a clear sign that it was about to rain.

Ashley Grant was bewildered. ’Did her brother really forget what happened?’

’This is so infuriating! I knew I shouldn’t have counted on him!’

The group started down the same path they had come up. Leona Grant took Annabelle Linton’s hand and didn’t let go.

As they descended the mountain, the scenery was stunning, with picturesque mountains and lush vegetation. Despite the gloomy weather, the view was still impressive, and Annabelle Linton snapped a few photos along the way.

RUMBLE—

As they walked, a sound suddenly erupted from their left, up ahead. It sounded like something was approaching.

It ended with a tremendous CRASH, and then silence. Whatever it was, it had stopped.

A massive boulder was now blocking the path ahead.

They were currently in a narrow, stepped valley flanked by mountains on both sides. The path would have opened up just a few steps beyond this passage.

The valley was only wide enough for two people to walk abreast, so the giant boulder completely blocked their way. No one could get through.

"What’s going on...?"

"Looks like something’s blocking the path. It’s about to rain, too. What is this now?"

Ashley Grant ran ahead to check on the situation, then jogged back. "The path is blocked by a boulder," she reported. "We can’t get through."

"Was anyone hurt?" Vivian Yates quickly asked, her voice full of concern.

Seeing her display of compassion, Xylas Shepherd’s eyes softened.

Ashley Grant shot her a look, sneered, and said in a biting, sarcastic tone, "People really do think along certain lines, don’t they? Just how badly are you hoping someone got hurt? Why bother pretending to be so kind and pure? If someone had been injured, do you think we’d all be this calm?"

"..."

Hearing this, Vivian Yates’s hands balled into fists.

’That little bitch,’ she thought. ’If she were my sister, I’d strangle her.’

’Strangle her dead!’

’Whose spoiled brat is this? Doesn’t she know how to speak properly?!’

Just then, a broadcast from the park’s customer service echoed through the valley.

"Good afternoon, visitors. We apologize for the inconvenience caused by the recent rockfall. Please do not worry. This is a relatively common occurrence on Mount Cinder. Our maintenance crew is already en route to clear the path. In the meantime, other staff members will be here to guide you. We ask for your patience and cooperation. Please remain calm."

Shortly after, a large crew of workers arrived with tools and began methodically working to clear the road.

A customer service representative in a professional uniform stepped forward to lead them. She wore a practiced smile, bowed first, then spoke through a portable amplifier. "Good afternoon, visitors. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused by the rockfall. The path is currently under repair, so there is no need to panic.

"To express our sincerest apologies, we invite you all to walk back about seventy feet along the path. We have prepared dinner and tents for you there while you wait. The timeline for the repairs is currently unpredictable. Should we be unable to clear the path tonight, we invite you to stay here for the night. Our company will cover all expenses and will be fully responsible for your safety."
