No one had any objections, so they all readily agreed.

"It’s getting dark. If we’re not staying, let’s not waste any more time. Let’s go."

After he finished speaking, Leona Grant glanced at Ashley Grant and added, "Remember to stick close to Nathaniel, understand?"

"OK."

With that, Leona Grant took Annabelle Linton’s hand and led the way.

Vivian Yates froze for a moment. Her expression darkened as she clenched her fists, looking as if she wanted to shatter her own bones.

Leona Grant’s actions were no different from Ashley Grant’s just moments before.

’To think they were all ignoring her!’

’Annabelle Linton has him protecting her, Ashley Grant has Nathaniel Locke... so what about me?’

Sure enough, her mood stabilized considerably with that thought. In the blink of an eye, she put on a delicate, aggrieved expression.

’Is it just because of Leona?’

He hesitated for a moment before taking her hand and saying gallantly, "Don’t worry, I’ll protect you."

Vivian Yates looked up, pleasantly surprised, and said, touched, "Thank you."

"It’s nothing." Xylas Shepherd’s lips curved into a smile as he led her forward.

A triumphant smirk played on Vivian Yates’s lips as she walked behind him.

The narrow path down the mountain was difficult to walk on.

Autumn had already arrived, so the sky darkened quickly. They had already wasted some time on their way down, then had to turn back. After walking for a while more, night had now fallen.

Most of the tourists chose to rest in their tents and wait for the road to be cleared. If it didn’t open up, they’d still get free food and lodging, which was a pretty good deal.

The others were taking the narrow path down the mountain. There weren’t many of them; including their group of six, there were only about twenty people in total.

Staff members led the way at the front, with the group following behind.

After walking for some time, the staff distributed food and water and had everyone take a break right where they were.

A cold gust of wind blew past, and Annabelle Linton shivered.

She was only wearing a pair of casual pants, a thin hoodie, and a flimsy sun-protection jacket over it.

She instinctively pulled her jacket tighter, her teeth chattering from the cold.

Suddenly, a wave of warmth enveloped her.

She looked up to see Leona Grant taking off his own jacket and draping it over her shoulders.

He himself was now wearing only a snow-white shirt, and his solid muscles were faintly visible through the fabric.

Annabelle knew firsthand just how cold it was. ’What if Leona Grant catches a cold?’ she thought, worriedly.

Annabelle Linton took the jacket off to give it back to him. "I’m not cold. You wear it. It would be terrible if you caught a chill."

"I’m fine." Leona Grant took the jacket and put it back on her.

He didn’t just drape it over her this time; he made her wear it properly.

He then zipped up the jacket, pulled the hood of her own sweatshirt up over her head, and finally tucked her hands into the jacket’s pockets.

The sight of Annabelle looking up at him with her hood on, her big, bright eyes wide, was utterly adorable.

Leona Grant pulled her into his arms and kissed her. He then caressed her cold cheek and whispered, "You’re more important than anything."

Annabelle felt a jolt in her heart, followed by an overwhelming wave of emotion.

She leaned against his chest, closing her eyes and listening to the strong, steady beat of his heart.

"Damn... they’ve been all over each other this whole time. They have no shame."

Ashley Grant grumbled with disgust, but still took out her phone to snap a few pictures of them.

"What are you doing?" Nathaniel Locke asked her, his tone mild.
