The ride home was silent. Evelyn was still brooding over her parents’ actions, feeling angry, helpless, and sad. Why did things have to turn so bleak?

Sitting between her and Ethan, Nora remained glued to his phone, watching a new cartoon he had just downloaded for her.

Ethan also didn’t say a word, merely closing his eyes as he relaxed. The daily task was considered completed, and he was glad that he hadn’t snapped.

Seeing such shameless people who were willing to use him as an excuse to marry Evelyn off to another man made him angry. Thankfully, he was able to hold back and not blast them with harsh words.

That didn’t mean he’d spare Chris, though. If the guy still dared to hover around Evelyn, he would seriously follow through on his words.

Soon, the driver parked at their neighborhood, and the family of three alighted from the taxi.

They walked back to their house in silence, and Ethan opened the door for them to enter.

Evelyn immediately turned to him, her expression apologetic.

"I’m sorry, Ethan. I didn’t think they’d say such outrageous—"

Ethan cut her off by wrapping his arms around her. "You don’t need to be sorry. I should be thanking you for speaking up. After all, considered all I’ve done, I wouldn’t be surprised if you wanted a divorce."

Evelyn’s eyes widened, and she shook her head. "I would never. I’ve always loved you, Ethan, and I still do."

Ethan smiled and hugged her tightly, only to see Nora looking at him with narrowed eyes. There was an unusual amount of seriousness in her eyes, and it puzzled him.

Still, he only smiled at her and pulled back from hugging Evelyn.

"Nora wants a hug too? Come here."

He crouched down before her and spread his arms wide. Nora smiled faintly and rushed to hug him.

Ethan laughed and picked her up, taking her to the kitchen with him.

"Let daddy prepare something special for you."

Evelyn watched Ethan walk into the kitchen, then sighed. ’Mom and Dad really went too far. And Chris... why is he being so persistent? I’m already married.’

She sighed again, then checked her phone as it vibrated. It was a message from Cassie, asking her about how the visit had been.

She couldn’t remember telling Cassie about her plans to visit her parents, but she brushed it off and blamed her poor memory.

Sitting on the chair, she typed back, giving a rough account of what had happened including Chris’s stunt.

Cassie’s reply came fast. ’So, you didn’t accept his offer? That could have been your chance to ditch Ethan. The house belongs to your parents, anyway. He’ll be the one getting kicked out.’

Evelyn frowned and gave her a stern reply. She wasn’t going to divorce Ethan, and she didn’t appreciate the way everyone treated him recently.

Yes, he had been horrible for a while now, but that had stopped. It was as if he had received a deliverance from the spirit of depression troubling him.

For someone who had always dreamed about him becoming himself again, she was delighted. Why couldn’t the others share her joy?

Only her brother was at peace with Ethan currently, having received help from him.

’Haa...’

She set aside her phone and went into the kitchen. Ethan was there frying eggs while Nora sat on the kitchen table watching him.

The sight brought a smile to her face, and she felt her heart lighten.

Once the bread and fried eggs were prepared, Ethan served the meal and they all sat down to eat.

"Ethan, I’ve been thinking of what school Nora would attend once the long break is over. Do you have a school you’ve set your sights on?"

Hearing that, he paused eating and pondered seriously. "Nora’s school... I already thought about that."

Evelyn’s eyes brightened. "Really? Which one do you think is the best?"

"It’s not around here," He explained as he shook his head. "It’s in Arcane City."

"Eh?" Evelyn was stumped, and even Nora looked surprised.

"Arcane City? Isn’t that... too far?" The woman asked.

Ethan nodded and explained, "That’s why we’re moving. Once I’m done with the preparations, we’ll be ready to relocate there."

"Eeeehhhh???"

Evelyn cried out in shock, shaking her head vigorously.

"Wait! Wait! Wait! Move out? W-when did you think of that? How?"

The news was too shocking for her since she had never even considered it. Her plan had been to save up money and renovate the house—not move out of it.

Ethan chuckled. "You don’t need to worry that much about it. I’ll find us somewhere comfortable and close to the school I have in mind. Besides, I’ll put your shop into consideration too, so don’t worry."

Evelyn still found it hard to accept immediately. "But what about my customers? Going to a new location might affect my sales..."

Ethan understood this but wasn’t worried in the slightest.

"I already said I have something in mind, didn’t I? You should trust me on that. I know how much you love your business."

Evelyn smiled in relief, then asked hesitantly. "How much do you need to buy an apartment? I want to... help pay a bit."

Ethan cocked an eyebrow and laughed. "You should keep your money and focus on restocking the shop. I’ll handle the house and the others."

"But we’re husband and wife," Evelyn pouted. "I want to contribute to whatever you’re doing..."

’Wow... what a sensible woman,’ He smiled fondly, but still refused. "That’s true, but since I can handle it alone, why bother you with it?"

Stretching his hand, he took a slice of bread from her plate. "But if you insist, I’ll consider this your contribution."

Before she could say anything, he stuffed it into his mouth and quickly ate it.

Evelyn looked at him with a dumbfounded expression while Nora laughed lightly.

’This is good,’ He thought with a smile.

The family’s situation had improved greatly compared to when he had just arrived. At least Nora wasn’t suspecting him of poisoning their food anymore, and could laugh freely around him.

’This is not the end, though. It’s just the start.’
