Repairing A Broken Home With My Patriarch System
Chapter 34: A Failed TaskLucas approached them with confident steps, his gaze fixed on Ethan. The instant Frank recognized him, he stood up and bowed respectfully.
"Mr. Stark, it’s an honor meeting you here," He said with a hint of flattery in his voice.
Lucas paused and glanced at him. "You are...?"
Frank’s lips twitched, but he still answered respectfully. "Frank Roy. Team Manager of one of your subordinate branches."
Lucas slowly nodded. "Oh, I see."
Without saying another word, he walked over to Ethan and smiled.
"Brother Hale, I know you must be surprised to see me. Sorry for tracking you down here."
Frank, Melinda, and Evelyn froze. Brother...? He was calling Ethan brother? What exactly was their relationship?
Evelyn wasn’t stupid, and she immediately knew this was Cole’s boss in the office. Still, she was surprised that the man seemed very familiar with Ethan.
Ethan smiled and set down his cup of wine. "It’s fine. Take a seat. I wonder why you suddenly showed up, though."
Lucas sat beside him and explained. "It’s business, of course."
He glanced at Evelyn, and Ethan promptly introduced her.
"She’s my wife—Evelyn."
Lucas’s eyes lit up. "Mrs. Hale, nice to meet you."
He smiled and shook her hand. The gesture nearly made Frank fall from his seat.
’He ignored my handshake but took the initiative for this woman...?’
Releasing Evelyn’s hand, Lucas said to her. "Mrs. Hale, you’re really lucky to have found Brother Ethan. I’m sure you can never regret it."
Evelyn smiled bashfully and nodded while Ethan rolled his eyes.
"I’m surprised you’ve switched to calling me brother. Where is all the formality?"
Lucas laughed lightly. "Haha, I don’t dare to be formal with you. You practically just saved my life."
"Oh? Something happened?" Ethan asked, his gaze serious.
The older man nodded. "I just received intel that the Holmes company is going bankrupt at the moment and their market share is dropping very fast. It’s obvious that they were attacked by other companies."
Lucas sighed wearily. "If I hadn’t followed your advice and pulled away from them, I would have been dragged into the sinkhole with them."
"Oh, so that has happened already." Ethan nodded, calmly drinking his wine. Then, he got an extra cup for Lucas and poured him wine too.
"You knew it would happen?" Lucas’s eyes widened.
"You may say that," Ethan smiled faintly. "As long as you have the right information, predicting what could happen is not a problem."
His image in Lucas’s heart grew, and the older man looked at him in respect.
"Phew. Anyway, I came to specifically thank you for helping me out on this one. If there’s anything you need, please let me know."
At their seats, Frank and Melinda had fallen silent and merely listened. At this point, they realized Ethan wasn’t just some random guy.
He had his own connections and was good enough to earn the respect of the man called Lucas Stark.
Frank immediately began sweating buckets.
Ethan remained silent for a while, glanced at Frank, then said, "I’m planning to move to Arcane City. However, I’m going in blind and I don’t know anyone there. I wonder if you could help me in this regard?"
Lucas responded immediately. "Arcane City? Sure. What kind of housing do you want? I know several estates that would be perfect for you."
Ethan shook his head with a light smile. "Nahh, I’ll probably prefer something moderate and not insanely luxurious. Preferably, it should be around the Cold River District."
"Cold River District? Hmm, I’ll get information on all the available houses there. Leave it to me," Lucas said with a confident expression on his face.
"Thanks for the help, I appreciate it," Ethan said.
Lucas immediately laughed and waved it off. "Haha, this is nothing at all. I still owe you a favor, as this doesn’t even count as a bother."
Ethan smiled but said nothing. Then, he looked at Evelyn with a reassuring gaze.
The woman was a little nervous, but she smiled back.
They had finished eating, and Ethan decided it was time to go back. He stood up and glanced at Melinda.
"I thought you two might want to exchange contact info."
"A-Ah, yeah. That’s right." Melinda fumbled with her bag and quickly took out her phone, handing it to Evelyn. "Here, let me have your number. WhatsApp number, preferably."
Evelyn nodded and typed it in before handing the phone back to her.
Once they had finished exchanging contact, Ethan said, "Alright, let’s go. See you later."
Melinda nodded in a daze as she watched him walk away. Then, she turned to Frank.
The young man looked pale and dejected. Hadn’t he just offended a friend of his boss?
Was he... cooked?
Meanwhile, Ethan tried to pay for the meal and the drink but Lucas stopped him and insisted on paying.
In the end, Ethan agreed and they finally left the restaurant together.
"Let the limo take you home. I’ll be heading back to the company," Lucas said as he stopped when they reached the car.
The driver stepped out and opened the back door for them.
"Alright, we’ll talk later. Thanks for the ride."
Ethan nodded and entered with Evelyn, and the door was closed behind them.
Soon, the driver entered and started the car, driving them back to the hospital.
By the time they returned, the others had already left, and only Cassie stayed behind. Evelyn’s parents left out of annoyance, while Chris left after receiving an urgent call.
Cole was also unable to stay any longer since he had work to do. Only Cassie had been free enough to wait.
Evelyn quickly approached her and said, "You haven’t gone back? Thanks for being here with us, Cassie."
Cassie smiled back and held her hands. "Of course, I’ll always be here. We’re best friends."
The words warmed Evelyn’s heart, and she sat beside her, waiting.
Ethan stood to the side, his expression unreadable. He wasn’t merely staring at empty air, but his system interface.
