The next day, Ethan and Evelyn headed to the Shopping Quarter along with Nora to set up their new shop.
Using the money she had made from her business before they left their old place, Evelyn had ordered a lot of fruits to be delivered to the Shopping Quarter.
Looking around, she smiled thinly. ’Let’s hope we sell.’
Ethan rolled the door open, and she finally saw the inside of the shop. Her eyes widened.
It was far better than how her old shop had been. Shelves were arranged neatly along both sides, and she could already imagine them being filled with her fruits.
"Do you like it?" Ethan asked, turning to her.
Evelyn nodded with a bright smile, then entered with her daughter. Ethan lingered a little, staring at the system interface.
[Today’s Task: Ensure your daughter rests comfortably.]
[Reward: $100]
Ethan wasn’t even focused on the reward. Instead, he looked at the task itself and pondered.
’Does it mean she needs enough sleep? Or what kind of rest?’
It was one of the easier tasks he had received over the past few days. Most of the tasks related to Nora had failed because he couldn’t complete them.
After expressing her dislike for him, she had dropped the act completely, showing her usual indifference toward him. Only when Evelyn appeared did she smile.
’Hmm... one step at a time.’
"Ethan, this is amazing! It’s very spacious!" Evelyn called out to him excitedly, her eyes wandering around in awe.
Ethan nodded and made a quick call. Before long, a sleek black car parked before their shop and two people came down from it.
Ethan turned to them with a smile. "Nice seeing you two again."
Vincent had no smile on his face, but his younger sister still smiled and waved at him. Judging from how he had been acting, she didn’t think Ethan was a bad person.
Evelyn came out of the shop and looked at them curiously. "Hello, good morning."
Vincent glanced at her and gave a stiff nod before turning back to Ethan.
"We need to talk."
"Yeah, yeah, I know," Ethan said with a roll of his eyes. "But what’s the rush?"
He turned to Evelyn and introduced them. "This is Cassandra, your new assistant, and this is her brother, Vincent. The girl is nice, while the guy is a bit thick-headed. They’re both good kids, anyway."
Vincent’s lips twitched, but he said nothing. Cassandra, meanwhile, smiled bashfully.
"Oh..." Evelyn nodded in realization, then smiled at them. "Nice to meet you."
The siblings nodded and returned her greeting.
"Now, then," Ethan stepped aside. "You ladies can discuss your activities at the shop. Vincent and I will go discuss... boy stuff."
He tapped Vincent’s shoulder, gesturing for him to follow.
Evelyn watched him go, then turned back to Cassandra with a friendly smile.
"Um... this is my first time having someone I don’t know assist me so pardon me if I’m a little awkward."
Cassandra shook her head. "It’s fine. "I’m not really an outgoing person either, but I think we’ll get along."
"Great!" Evelyn smiled and led her into the shop. "So this is our shop and the ordered fruits will be arriving soon. I’ll be needing your help with the arrangement and... do you have experience dealing with customers?"
Cassandra nodded. "A little. It’s just that my old workplace is not that popular, so people rarely come in."
"Ohh... I see. We’ll do fine, don’t worry." Evelyn reassured her and turned to Nora.
"This is Nora, my daughter. And Nora, this is Cassandra, Mommy’s new assistant. Say hi to her."
Nora looked at the lady and offered a small smile. "Hi."
Meanwhile, Ethan and Vincent walked down the street for a while before stopping. Vincent turned to Ethan and said, "I already sent my men to check the place you mentioned. Nothing was found there."
Ethan nodded slowly. "So she already moved? Hmm... you need to trace her quickly before she does something bad."
"Does something bad?" Vincent’s expression tightened. "Like what? And why?"
Ethan shrugged, his hands in his pockets. "She could do anything. After all, she’s not financially stable and still has a child to support. People in her situation tend to make hard choices."
A flicker of regret passed through Vincent’s eyes and he quietly lowered his head. "Where else should I even look?"
Ethan patted his shoulder. "Tell your boys to ask around. Once they know where she went, go to her personally. Don’t let them bring her to you."
Vincent thought about it and nodded. Bringing her to him would be very rude. It was better if he showed up himself.
"Now, cheer up, will you? You should be focusing on the things you’ll get for them."
"You’re so sure I’ll find her?" Vincent asked.
Ethan gave him a nod and turned around. "What matters is whether she’ll accept you or not."
Soon after, they returned to the shop. At the same time, the truck delivering the fruits arrived, and they began offloading them.
In just an hour, everything was set.
Vincent gave his sister one last look before getting into the car and driving away.
Meanwhile, Evelyn and Cassandra prepared to start selling. Ethan stayed with Nora inside the shop, letting the two women handle it.
It took some time, but after an hour, their first customer approached curiously.
"Did you guys just open? I haven’t seen a shop around here before."
The middle-aged woman asked as she looked at Evelyn and Cassandra.
Evelyn smiled and answered. "Yes. We just opened today. What would you like to buy?"
She glanced at the fruits displayed and their price tags. Her expression shifted slightly.
’I was just curious but... these are pretty cheap. Is it because they just opened?’
After a moment of hesitation, she decided to buy two apples and a bunch of bananas before leaving.
Evelyn turned to Cassandra and winked. "You’ll attend to the next customer. Is that fine?"
Cassandra nodded confidently. "I’ll handle it, boss."
"Eii, you don’t really need that title. Just call me by my name." Evelyn shook her head.
Meanwhile, Ethan and his daughter were currently having a staring contest while wearing serious expressions inside the shop
