The Dragonkind that ruled over the whole of Vyoman for several millennia was formed of seven clans.

The Neige Clan, elemental dragons of Snow

The Zéphyr Clan, elemental dragons of wind

The Roche Clan, elemental dragons of earth

The Flamme Clan, elemental dragons of fire

The Ondine Clan, elemental dragons of water

The Floraison Clan, elemental dragons of flora, and

The Éclair Clan, elemental dragons of lightning, and the leader of the seven clans.

The current head of the Éclair clan, Maximilian’s father, was also the current Almighty Sovereign of two realms.

Since childhood, Maximilian had remained an outcast among his own dragon race due to the destiny he was born with.

It was one of the reasons he rarely remained in Valcyrion, the Dragon City, instead roaming the territories of the other gods and causing mischief. The other was that his ideology had never aligned with that of his fellow dragons.

Arthur Zéphyr Valcyrion, the heir to the Zéphyr clan, was the only one who saw Maximilian for what he was, not for what he might become. He was also his only friend besides Draven, although Draven would claim otherwise.

"I do not wish to participate in the banquet," Maximilian told Vivi, shaking his head. "They do not like my presence and I do not like theirs. Their mentality spoils my mood. I am afraid that if I went there, it might become the last day for some of them. I am afraid that if I go there, it might be the last day for some of them."

Vivi pressed her forehead between her thumb and fingers as his statement gave her a headache. She knew Maximilian’s words were not exaggerated. Although he seemed playful at times, he was terrifyingly ruthless when the situation called for it.

Still, as his guardian, it was her duty to ensure he socialized with the people over whom he would rule in the future.

"My Lord, they would not have invited you if they did not welcome your presence," Vivi explained, her tone calm. "Besides, if you do not converse with them, you will never be able to understand them. If you do not understand them, how will you make decisions for them, provide them justice, and lead them toward a better future?"

Maximilian seemed convinced, giving her statement deep thought. After a few seconds, he suddenly shook his head in annoyance and declared, "No. I am not going. Just imagining their faces makes me sick."

He turned to Arthur and demanded, his eyes narrowing, "Are you going?"

Arthur flinched at his question, a bead of sweat trickling down his temple. "Well, I am also invited as the young master of the Zéphyr clan. My father would not let me enter the house if he learns I am not attending the banquet."

"You will not go," Maximilian declared in a sharp tone.

"B-but, my lord—"

"Do you wish to go?" Maximilian asked, folding his arms.

Arthur understood the intent behind his question. Maximilian did not want the answer that would satisfy him, but the truth of what Arthur actually felt.

Arthur clenched his fists at his sides, his jaw tightening.

"I would rather get caught by Lady Cindera than attend the banquet of those bastards," he muttered, his arms trembling with suppressed fury.

"Just a ’No’ would have sufficed. You did not need to reveal your kinks to me," Maximilian said sarcastically, giving him a mocking grin that only made his cheeks turn red with embarrassment.

"My Lord, please do not make fun of m—"

"It is decided then," Maximilian said, cutting him off mid-sentence. "We will not attend the banquet. I will send a letter to your father saying you are with me. Let us see if he dares punish you then."

"Thank you, My Lord," Arthur said, a bright smile forming on his face as he bowed slightly in respect.

The two were about to fly away when Vivi’s sharp voice froze them mid-motion.

"My Lord, will you really not go?"

Her words seemed less like a question and more like a threat. A heavy silence fell between the trio.

"Even father himself cannot change my decision," Maximilian said in a firm tone.

"Fine then, I will attend the banquet alone."

Another heavy silence followed. The air between them grew heavy.

The playfulness vanished from Maximilian’s face, his golden eyes narrowing at Vivi.

"You will do no such thing," his voice deep and commanding.

"Someone has to attend the banquet on behalf of the Éclair clan. Since I am your guardian, the duty you neglect for your own comfort naturally falls on my shoulders," Vivi said in a calm but stern tone.

A dark aura enveloped Maximilian’s silhouette, his jaw tightening as he glared at Vivi with clear fury.

"M-my Lord, I suggest you should not do this," Arthur pleaded, gulping.

"Step back, Arthur," Maximilian muttered as flickers of black lightning began dancing around his body.

Arthur did not press the matter further. Knowing what was about to follow, he stepped back, taking cover behind a nearby terrain.

"Vivi, you will not go to the banquet. This is my command."

"By the verdict bestowed upon me by the Almighty Sovereign, none but him holds the authority to command me," Vivi said in a calm tone, as if Maximilian’s suppressive aura did not bother her at all.

As soon as she said those words, a massive burst of energy exploded from Maximilian’s body, the dark scales on his arms and chest spreading all the way to his face as he began transforming into his divine dragon form.

"In that case, I will make you stay."

With that declaration, he released an earth-shaking roar before launching himself at Vivi.

---

"My lord, I told you that you should not do it," Arthur said, his annoying face appearing against the beautiful blue sky behind him.

"Shut it," Maximilian muttered, lying on the ground back in his humanoid form, his mouth covered in bruises, one eye turned purple from the beating he had just received.

"Keep fooling around," Vivi said, pivoting on her feet after giving him a sharp glare. "I am going to the banquet."

Just as her wing of bluish dark hue spread at her back, Maximilian shouted,

"Fine! Fine! I will go. Stop threatening me, dammit."

She glanced back at him over her shoulder, a serene smile forming on her face.

"I shall prepare the bath and clothes for you. Come back within the hour."

She flew off like a bolt of lightning, vanishing into the distance in the blink of an eye.
