Return of the Mythic Bloodline

Chapter 554: Evangeline Éclair Valcyrion

"That’s strange," Arthur mumbled as he flew through the clouds in his draconic form, with massive rock pillars jutting out from random locations. "With her cultivation base, Lady Cindera would have already caught us. Her suspicious absence feels even more threatening."

"Your worry is needless, Arthur," Maximilian revealed, his imposing dragon form casting a wide shadow on the clouds below him. "She did not chase us because of the damage to the World Tree. She stayed back to put out the fire."

After a few minutes of flight, they descended onto the ground, where the grassland had turned into uneven terrain of grey rocks, the air filled with Demonic Soulforce.

"Remember your promise," Draven said as he jumped off Maximilian. "Never set foot in the Demon Kingdom again."

"Yes, I know," Maximilian retorted as he transformed back into his humanoid form, his brows furrowed. "Still, you have to come out and play with us."

"We will never meet again," Draven declared with a straight face as he moved forward without looking back even once.

"You have really angered him this time, My Lord," Arthur said as they watched Draven’s retreating figure. "What if he really does not come to meet us again?"

"Nah, he just acts like he does not care," Maximilian shrugged with a playful smile. "He will surely come again. We are the only friends that loner has, after all."

"Stop badmouthing people behind their backs!" Draven’s annoyed voice echoed as he quickened his steps, trying to get away as quickly as possible from the bane of his dignity.

"Haha, just look at him fluster—"

Bam!

A punch landed on the back of Maximilian’s head before he could finish speaking.

"You punk," Maximilian muttered, his veins snapping. "Do you have a death wish... gasp, Vivi!"

He exclaimed as he turned around, only to find that the one who had punched him was not Arthur but a breathtaking young girl his age.

She had long raven black hair with inner shades of bright pale blue, styled into bangs at the front and flowing freely down her back. Her ethereal eyes, of the same blue shade, were narrowed at Maximilian, the vertical pupils shrunk in fury. She had draconic wings on her back like Maximilian and Arthur, but in a shade of black fading into pale blue. Her body was covered in an elegant black silken robe with wide sleeves, tied at the waist with a silver belt.

"Could you not pass a single day without causing trouble, My Lord?" she demanded, her arms placed on her hips in an imposing pose.

"Vivi, you cannot just hit me like that," Maximilian muttered, rubbing his head. "I am the heir to the two realms."

He reminded her of the authority he possessed as he folded his arms with a proud smirk.

"Put something on first, my lord," Vivi said, giving him a disgusted glare. "Your little authority is hanging out in the open."

"How dare you call it little?" Maximilian exclaimed, seeming more bothered by her statement than by the fact that he was fully exposed. "Mind you, mine is bigger than both Draven’s and Arthur’s—"

"For heaven’s sake, please do not speak any further," Arthur begged, grabbing his arm with both hands.

"Is this what you men compare when you hang out?" Vivi asked. She was not even furious at this point, just utterly disappointed.

Once Maximilian had dressed himself, taking a robe from his storage pouch, Vivi’s true scolding began.

"Despite my repeated warnings, you went to the phoenix clan to steal again. And as if that were not enough, you even got yourself caught. Every single day you cause problems, only for me to clean up after you. You have none of the dignity befitting a future ruler or prince. How long do you intend for me to look after you? You are sixty-one already. In the next thirty-nine years, you will become an adult, yet I see no mental growth whatsoever. It is as if you are aging backward. You have... scold, scold... bicker, bicker..."

The session continued for over an hour while Maximilian silently sat before her with his head lowered. Arthur stood on the other side, sweat trickling down his temple. He wanted to enjoy the situation, but he was more terrified that he would be the one Vivi targeted next if he did not show that he too was repenting for his actions.

’This situation never fails to amaze me. The Lord never listens to anyone. Even the Almighty Sovereign is helpless before his mischief,’ Arthur murmured inwardly, finding himself dumbfounded once again at the sight. ’Yet he never dares argue with Lady Evangeline. She is the only one he listens to, but only in her presence.’

Evangeline Éclair Valcyrion, affectionately called Vivi by Maximilian, was a lightning dragoness entrusted with his care by his father after his mother passed away just a few years following his birth. Since then, she had remained by Maximilian’s side as his caretaker, guardian, and closest companion. Although she was only a few years older than him, still a minor by dragon standards, she was the only person whose scolding Maximilian ever listened to. Perhaps it was because he never felt any ulterior motive in her scolding, only pure worry for him, that made him slightly obedient to her.

While she was still scolding Maximilian, her gaze shifted to his sulking face. "It seems you understand the intent behind my lecture."

"I do," Maximilian said, giving quick nods.

"Rise to your feet," she ordered.

Maximilian obliged, immediately rising to his feet.

The anger from Vivi’s face vanished, her visage turning gentler as stepped closer and fixed his robes, which he had just haphazardly thrown over his body to cover himself.

"You are invited to the banquet hosted by the heir of Flamme Dragon House," Vivi revealed, her tone calmer now. "The heirs from the other six houses will also be present. Use this opportunity to socialize with the other young dragons."
