"GRAAA!!!!!"

An ominous voice laced with Death Energy echoed as a colossal demonic monster roared. It had five eyes on its face and a fat, grey humanoid body, if Maximilian could even call it human. On its massive belly was a huge mouth, inside which rested another face with wide tusks and three eyes.

It was the Abyssal Demon King, a death demon native to the Riftlands. Maximilian had only seen its drawings in the scriptures, but now, seeing it in real life...

"It really isn’t that imposing," Maximilian chuckled, flying in the air before the monster.

"GRAHH!!!" The monster roared again, furious at not being able to catch him in the air.

"What is that pathetic roar?" Maximilian mocked, shaking his head. "Let me show you what a true roar is."

He widened his mouth, his jaw stretching to his ears as a sphere of dark lightning formed inside it.

"ROAR OF DRAGON!"

The ground split apart beneath the demon from the sonic waves, its massive body squirming as it tried to cover its bleeding ears.

Moving one hand to its belly, it pulled out the face from the mouth. The face was connected to the inside of the demon by a massive dark chain.

The demon threw the face towards Maximilian. Midair, its mouth opened, absorbing the sonic waves from Maximilian’s roar.

Just as it reached him, he drew a longsword from his storage pouch, its blade covered in concentrated dark Sword Aura. Violent black lightning danced around the blade with the buzzing sound of electricity.

"Sword Aura: Lightning Slash!"

With the swing of Maximilian’s blade, a horizontal black line appeared across the incoming face.

The next moment, the face split into two, the chain connecting it was severed, and the demon standing on the ground below was cleanly sliced in half across the jaw on its belly.

Its legs fell forward while its torso hit the ground backward with a heavy thud.

"I’m just one step away from mastering perfect Sword Aura," Maximilian murmured to himself, his eyes moving across the blade in his hand. He returned the sword to his pouch and descended, landing on the dark, broken ground.

He pointed his claw towards the demon’s body. Its chest tore open, and from within, a compressed solid sphere emerged.

He sat cross-legged on the ground, the black sphere hovering before him. Forming a series of hand signs, he caused several thin strands to emerge from the sphere. They entered the diamond-shaped golden gem at the center of his chest as he began absorbing the core.

Dark, shadow-like energy enveloped his silhouette. Just as the core was completely absorbed, a sudden burst of dark energy erupted outward from his body, scattering rocks and pebbles in every direction.

"Hehe~ I have reached Level Nine of the Transcendent Realm," Maximilian said with amusement, stabilizing his energy. "The core of a Rank Five death demon is truly incredible. In just six months, I advanced from Level Seven to Level Nine."

Although Death Energy was abundant here, it was impure, mixed with the negative emotions of corrupted souls. Absorbing it directly was like taking in lethal poison, and purifying it before absorption consumed too much time. Still, Maximilian could cultivate far faster by purifying and absorbing Death Energy than by absorbing Nature Soulforce and converting it into Death Energy, the cultivation method he had used in Valcyrion.

That was also what he had been doing for the first five months, allowing him to reach Level Eight. But now, he had changed his approach after learning that death demons above Rank Four possessed a core within their bodies.

The core contained the Death Energy the demons had cultivated and purified over the years. However, killing them was equally challenging. A Rank Five death demon was as powerful as a Late Stage True Sage. Even so, thanks to the high-ranked offensive skills Maximilian possessed, along with his Death Lightning, he could fight five of them at once on equal footing.

And now, after reaching Level Nine, even twenty of them would not be a match for him.

"I should return and stabilize my foundation," Maximilian said, stretching his arms. "The path of cultivation must not be rushed."

The wings on his back spread wide as he shot into the sky in a trail of black lightning, breaking the sound barrier.

After flying for a few minutes, Maximilian slowed as the bright golden glow of the pagoda became visible in the distance.

A net of Death Lightning in the shape of an inverted hemisphere surrounded the pagoda, an array created by Maximilian to reduce the corruption of the pagoda by Death Energy.

Under normal circumstances, the net of Death Lightning should not have protected the pagoda from Death Energy since both possessed the same nature. It was only possible because Maximilian’s Death Lightning was superior to the Death Energy in the outskirts of the Riftlands. Not only did it protect the pagoda, but it also absorbed the surrounding Death Energy into the array, providing a never-ending source of energy.

If Maximilian were to place the same array in the deeper regions of the Riftlands, his Death Lightning would have been overwhelmed by the denser Death Energy.

He passed through the barrier, landing outside the entrance of the pagoda.

"It’s been five months since Vivi entered closed-door cultivation. She should be coming out at any moment."

As he opened the golden doors of the pagoda, a brilliant light splashed across his face. When it faded, he found himself standing in the front yard of a grand palace, its walls crafted from maroon wood while layers of green roofs stretched outward like unfurled wings.

On one side lay a large beautiful pond, its tranquil waters centered around a stone dragon statue. Crystal-clear water poured from the dragon’s open jaws like a gentle fountain, sending ripples across the pond’s surface. On the other side stretched a vibrant garden filled with flowers of every color. At the corner stood a majestic jacaranda tree, its countless purple blossoms carpeting the ground beneath it. Its wide, graceful branches spread overhead, still laden with far more blooms than those that had already fallen. Beside the tree, a small pavilion was built. Within it, a short stone table and two cushions were placed opposite to each other.

The sky was a clear blue, with a few puffs of clouds scattered here and there. Unlike the stench of blood and rotten flesh outside, the air here was fresh, carrying the sweet fragrance of the garden, which Evangeline had nurtured like her own children to ensure that the revolting stench from outside never seeped into the interior of the pagoda.

Maximilian had taken only a single step forward when a sudden burst of energy erupted from within the palace. The grass swayed as petals were swept into the air by the powerful shockwave.

Maximilian’s lips curled into a smile as he quickly made his way inside the palace.

"She has also reached the pinnacle of the Transcendent Realm."
