Return of the Mythic Bloodline

Chapter 586: Spacetime Distortion

"She hasn’t," Wukong shook his head. "Even I only finished my meditation a few months ago."

"Alright," Maximilian nodded with a sigh. "I was able to break through in only fifteen years because of the unique composition I possessed as the Dragon of Death. It will take her another twenty or thirty years to reach the Celestial Realm."

"That long!" Wukong gasped, his eyes widening. "But I wanted to see her."

"I know your reasons, little monkey," Maximilian scoffed, rubbing his hand over his head. "You want to get those seven Rank cores that your sister-in-law promised."

"No, I really miss her," Wukong insisted as if he had been wrongly accused. "And... that is part of the reason."

Maximilian chuckled at his honesty. Evangeline had already taught him how to obtain the seven Rank cores. "AINOS, give me the concentrated Death Energy that you ejected from the spaceship fifteen years ago."

From the floor beneath them, a small platform emerged. Atop it, two spheres of dark energy were placed.

"Take them," Maximilian told Wukong. "They are the reward for your hard work."

"Whoa, thanks, Brother Max!" Wukong exclaimed, launching himself at him for another hug.

But this time, Maximilian didn’t allow it. He placed his palm against Wukong’s face, stopping him mid-motion. From his storage pouch, he took out a robe and handed it to him.

"Also, cover yourself, for heaven’s sake," he muttered. "You are not a mindless beast anymore. Behave more civilly. I don’t want you to show yourself like this in front of your sister-in-law."

Wukong nodded and put on the robe. Maximilian also gave him a storage pouch in which he could keep his belongings.

"AINOS, show me the way to the room where the previous master used to live," he ordered.

Initialising the request...

The floor beneath him began glowing, forming a path that led outside towards the hallway.

Follow the path to reach the Previous Master’s room.

Maximilian jumped onto his sword and moved along the glowing path.

"Wait for me, Brother!" Wukong called out as he ran behind him, hastily putting the cores into his storage pouch.

Maximilian waved a hand towards him. A sword emerged from the one he was flying on, reaching Wukong’s side.

"Hop on."

Wukong jumped onto the sword, firmly placing his feet on its flat surface. Naturally, his balance was off since it was his first time flying. Nonetheless, he managed not to fall.

As the duo reached the hallway, they realised that the glowing path led to the door of the room just beside the Control Room.

"It was this close?" Maximilian exclaimed, his brows rising.

The previous master had kept their room closest to the Control Room so they could easily access it.

AINOS informed him.

"That makes sense," Maximilian nodded, reaching the door, which had similar dragon engravings to those on the other rooms of the spaceship. "Now, do you mind opening it?"

Error! AINOS doesn’t possess the authority to open the Master’s Room.

"Eh? Then how am I supposed to open it?" Maximilian asked, raising an eyebrow. "Do I need a key or something?"

The previous master left a prerequisite condition to open the door. Only when the condition is fulfilled can the room be opened.

"And that is?"

The room can only be opened by a Dragon of Death who has reached the Late-Stage Celestial Realm.

"Oh, so it’s not going to be anytime soon," Maximilian sighed.

He reached the Control Room, where all the capsule-like chambers along the side walls had been opened. He had obtained the materials and techniques from the chambers on the right, while the ones on the left contained all the techniques and materials left behind by the Vice-Master, the Fire Phoenix.

With a wave of his hand, Maximilian placed all the materials into his storage pouch.

"I can give these techniques and materials to a worthy phoenix in the future," he murmured. "That is, if I ever find one."

Once he had stuffed everything away, he returned to the hall, where he sparred with Wukong.

"Brother, are you cultivating again?" Wukong asked curiously, as Maximilian had been standing frozen in one position for several minutes.

Instead of replying, Maximilian formed a series of hand signs, stellar energy gathering around his hands. The energy was like glittering liquid containing countless tiny, glowing particles. It seemed as though the cosmos itself was forming around his hands.

After reaching the Celestial Realm, dragons could convert their natural Soulforce into Cosmic Soulforce, a superior form of energy. Naturally, an attribute of Heavenly or Sovereign Class was required to use Cosmic Soulforce.

As for Maximilian’s Death Lightning, it was considered Semi-Sovereign Class. Only cultivators who had mastered Golden Lightning of Sovereign Class could overpower attacks unleashed by him at the same realm.

Once his hands were laced with enough Cosmic Soulforce, he slowly extended them forward.

"Blackhole: Spacetime Distortion."

The fabric of space began bending across his hands. His fingers pierced through space and spread it open, like tearing through a piece of cloth.

A dark dimension was revealed on the other side. Maximilian entered it.

In just a blink of an eye, the space healed itself. At the opposite wall, a similar portal appeared, through which Maximilian emerged.

"With my Black Hole Concept, I can distort the distance between two points and teleport anywhere I want," Maximilian murmured, looking calmly at the stellar energy in his palms. "With this, all the requirements to escape the Riftlands have been completed."

"Whoa!!!!!" Wukong exclaimed, his eyes widening like saucers at what he had just witnessed. "What kind of technique was that, Brother?" he demanded, reaching Maximilian at full speed. "Where did you learn it? Could you teach me that too?"

"Hold your horses," Maximilian muttered, poking a finger against Wukong’s forehead. "You need to become a Rank Eight Death Demon to learn such techniques."

"O-oh," Wukong’s face fell.

"Now, now, don’t feel dejected," Maximilian said with a grin, tapping his shoulder. "You will reach there in a couple hundred yea—"

Maximilian’s words stopped mid-sentence, his eyes widening and his pupils shrinking. His heart began beating like war drums, his breathing becoming uneven. In the next moment, he was completely drenched in sweat, his entire body shaking.

All of it was caused by the sound of a very distant weeping that reached his ears. Whoever the cries belonged to, Maximilian felt as though his heart were being crushed just by hearing them. The only other time he had experienced such a feeling was when Evangeline had cried in his arms after the incident in the Flamme Clan.
