"Hmm, this technique is more amazing than I expected," Maximilian murmured as he looked at his reflection in the liquid around the platform. His vertical pupil had turned round, the horns on his head and the wings on his back had vanished. The draconic scales that covered his arms and shoulders were also gone. "The only thing that makes me different from the humans is this mark."

He touched the vertical slit-shaped mark at the centre of his forehead. It had appeared when he activated the technique, transforming him completely into a human.

"Guess even the technique from my ancestors cannot overcome the Limitations of Non-humans. Nevertheless, this form is really something. It consumes even less energy than my original form."

The reason every species transformed themselves into a demi-human form was because the human body was the most ideal form for Soulforce conservation and recovery. The closer a being resembled a human, the faster their recovery.

"Should I test this?" The thought crossed his mind as he drew Vajra from his storage pouch.

The sword hovered beside him in the air, at knee height from the ground. "I can use this method to fly without exposing myself."

He jumped onto the sword, firmly placing his feet along its flat surface.

With just a thought, the sword shot forward, reaching the room’s exit. The door opened automatically as he approached and shut itself once he passed through.

"This isn’t as fast as my wings, but it is quite fun," Maximilian exclaimed as he shot through the hallway, raising dust in his wake.

In a few minutes, he arrived at the centre of the spaceship, stopping before the door to the control room. "Wukong must be done with his cultivation as well," he thought, rubbing his chin as he ordered, "AINOS, open the door."

The moment the door to the control room opened, a sharp claw reached for Maximilian’s face.

The sword beneath his feet moved sideways, dodging the incoming attack. The dark, furry body of Wukong moved past him, the one responsible for the attack. He landed on the floor on all fours beside him as he demanded, "Who the hell are you? How did you come here?"

’He has grown stronger,’ Maximilian murmured inwardly with an amused smile as he looked at Wukong. His back, which used to be slightly bent, was now completely straight. His torso was more refined, his broad chest and chiseled abs completely visible. He was more than exposed, to be honest, which made Maximilian frown in disgust. ’I need to teach him the concept of clothes.’ He sighed inwardly.

Not just physically, Maximilian could feel that he had also reached new heights in his cultivation. ’Peak of Rank Seven. Not bad.’

"What are you looking at?" Wukong growled as he prepared himself for the next attack. "I asked you a question. Answer if you don’t want to die."

"I’m Maximilian—"

Before he could even finish, Wukong bolted at Maximilian again, launching a barrage of punches and kicks.

"You dare try to trick me by imitating my brother?" he snarled. "Even if you made yourself look like him, your Soulforce signature is different from his. Tell me what you did to my brother!"

Maximilian blocked and parried his attacks with a single hand while barely moving on the hovering sword. After the breakthrough, he could easily see through all of his moves. ’If even he can’t recognise me, I don’t think anyone can.’

"Hah! You forced me to use this!" Wukong declared as he launched a fist towards Maximilian. As it drew closer, the size of his fist grew tremendously, reaching the same size as Maximilian’s body.

Bam!

He was pushed several feet back along the fist, his feet still firmly planted on the hovering sword.

"Semi-transformation?" Maximilian’s brows rose in curiosity, his palm resting against the massive punch that had nearly struck him. "Interesting... while he still can’t recognise me, I can use this chance to check how much both of us have grown."

As Wukong retracted his arm, it reduced to its regular size.

"AINOS, is there a room in the spaceship where I can fight Wukong without holding back?"

AINOS can create one right away.

The mechanical voice of AINOS echoed as a door on the wall beside him opened.

Maximilian looked at Wukong with a grin and said in a mocking tone, "You need to do better than that if you want to know the whereabouts of your brother."

He beckoned at him as he flew inside the room.

"Don’t run away!" Wukong shouted as he bolted towards him. Once he entered the room, the door closed behind him.

Inside was a vast open hall around a kilometre wide and even taller than that.

"You could even control this place," Wukong muttered, his deep black eyes sharpening as he looked at Maximilian. "Tell me what you did to my brother!"

"Make me talk if you have the ability," Maximilian shrugged.

Wukong growled at his words, his sharp fangs becoming visible beneath his lips. He clenched his fist and launched himself at Maximilian again, who was hovering high in the air on his sword.

Again, the size of the fist increased exponentially as it grew closer.

Now that the element of surprise was gone, Maximilian easily dodged the fist, moving sideways.

"Same tricks won’t work twi—" His words stopped mid-sentence as he saw a burst of dark flames approaching him, hidden behind the fist.

He instantly waved his hand. Several swords emerged from the one he was standing on, forming a close protective disc around him. The flames struck the flat sides of the swords, which blocked them from moving any further.

"Dark Flames of the Ashwing?" Maximilian murmured, impressed. "He finally made these flames his own."

While the disc of swords was still blocking the flames, Maximilian waved his hand towards Wukong on the ground. Several swords shot forward from the main one, moving like a serpent as they approached Wukong.

He stopped releasing the flames, his eyes widening at the numerous sharp blades flying towards him. He ran across the floor, his body moving like a blur as he avoided the swords.

"How could this person control so many swords at once?" Wukong muttered, frustration evident on his face. "Damn it. I really need a weapon."

His jaw dropped as he saw even more of them coming from the front.

"Even more?" he gasped, staring at Maximilian, who merely waved a hand at him mockingly.

As the swords from both sides were about to strike him, he hurled himself into the air, thinking they would strike each other.

Their trajectories changed as they followed him upward.

"Ugh... Don’t push me too far!" he grumbled, his mouth widening again. This time, instead of fire, a beam of concentrated dark energy was released from his mouth, striking the approaching swords.

"Destructive Beam."

The beam was strong enough to scatter most of the swords across the floor. He didn’t stop there. Once the path below him was cleared and he landed on the floor, he raised his head, directing the beam towards Maximilian.

"That’s the ultimate attack of the Nine-Headed Lion, Destructive Beam," a low gasp escaped Maximilian’s lips. "He even mastered this technique."

While the beam approached him from the front, Wukong launched both his arms from the sides, leaving Maximilian no room to retreat.

Just as the claws and beam were about to strike him, he whispered, "Freeze!"

A dark magical circle materialised above his head. From within it, several dark chains were released, coiling themselves around the beam and Wukong’s arms before reaching all the way to his body.

Everything stopped in its place, the beam just inches away from his body.

Only Wukong’s eyes moved, shock palpable within them. Soon, cracks spread across the chains, and he broke free.

"Wh-what the hell was that technique?" he gasped, his heart beating loudly in his chest from what he had just experienced. His gaze shifted back to his opponent, but he was no longer in the air.

"Where has he g—"

"I think this is enough for the spar," Maximilian’s voice came from behind him, his hand gently touching his shoulder. "You have impressed me, Wukong. Barely any Mid-Tier cultivator would be able to match you."

Wukong’s eyes widened as he sensed the familiar presence behind him, his eyes slowly turning teary. "B-brother Max."

He pivoted on his feet, finding Maximilian in his demi-human form, looking at him with a soft smile.

"Brother Max, it’s really you!" he whimpered, pulling him into a bear hug. "I thought that strange person did something to you."

"H-hey, stay away," Maximilian muttered, trying to push him away. "You are grossing me out."

Seeing him firmly gripping him, Maximilian released a sigh and let him hug him. Even though Wukong had grown in power, mentally, he was still just a teenager at best.

"Oh right, where did that strange cultivator go?" Wukong asked, parting from him.

"You mean this?" Maximilian asked, flicking his finger.

The wings on his back contracted, the horns were absorbed into his head, and his pupil became round. Even his Soulforce signature changed again.

Wukong instantly jumped back, his eyes narrowing. "You again?" he demanded, pointing a finger at him. "Where is Brother Max?"

"Hah... perhaps I gave more credit to his intelligence than necessary," Maximilian sighed, returning to his demi-human form.

He had to do it several times to convince Wukong that the two were the same person.

"By the way, has your sister-in-law come out of her cultivation?" Maximilian asked him, although he already knew the answer.
