Meanwhile, on the trip back…
“Highway to hell! Dun Dun Highway to hell, come on, sing it with me! Oh, wait. You can’t on account of my dick being in your mouth.” I was currently listening to loud music while Sophia sucked my dick, and Maria lay passed out on the bed while Millie drove. She had to drive because sex was off the table until she recovered. I was eating a slice of pizza as I couldn’t believe how opulent I was living, considering what I went through in the first timeline.
I felt like a Roman king, overindulging to the extreme. Enjoying every bit of the second chance at life I was given. Sophia wasn’t much for blowjobs, but she was sore, along with all the other women I took along the trip, still horny, but nowhere to vent it; she did her best to get me off. We smashed into another car as we cleared the way in front, while everyone else drove behind in the bus.
“Mmm, it’s not delivery, it’s DiGiorno. You want a slice?” She furrowed her brow as I was having a one-sided conversation with her. Almost mocking her, as I said. “You could at least suck me to the beat, like CPR, except you give yourself the choking hazard.” With that, it was enough for her to pop off my dick and stroke me while retorting. “Can you just let me get you off in peace and quiet? That music is way too loud; I can barely hear myself think.”
I turned the music down as I felt myself get close, warning her as she fell back as I coated her with my cream. Even just sucking my dick wore her down; I definitely needed to bring more girls next time I went out. I sat in the passenger seat of the semi truck cab as I had to do this sooner rather than later. “Since we got a straight away here. Do you want to unlock your powers?”
“What do you mean?” “I mean, these cores can give you powers, as your sister has. It might not be the same, but I can tell you have a power inside you that touching one of these cores will unlock… Actually, I should probably take the driver's seat while we do this. I don’t know if you’ll have any side effects from your power after all.”
I took over the driver's seat as she sat back down in my lap. Wrapping her arms around me, I touched her lips with the core, which caused her body to lock up and start to seize. It was the first time I got to witness one of the more powerful powers activate, and this one fundamentally shifted her appearance. It wouldn’t be as dramatic as my change, but it would certainly boost her from a seven or eight to nine or ten.
…
Third Person Point of View
Dominic took another punch to the face. His power wasn’t very good for fighting large groups like this. It was versatile, but didn’t have the assault power of a more straightforward power, such as fire manipulation. The only reason he was still up and fighting instead of a pile of broken bones from being stomped to death was because of the stat boost his power provided and his boxing skill.
His power was like a muscle, and he hadn’t really gotten a chance to train that muscle, which meant he could only use large amounts of water for a short time. The barrels of water he used were already limited in the amount he could pull from, as each shirt was soaked or water was absorbed into the ground, which would be too hard to use naturally, meaning he was using less orthodox liquids for his attacks now.
Blood flew from his own mouth and directly into the nose of one of the men trying to kill him. For a brief moment, he felt like he was drowning, his body moving instinctively to try and spit out the liquid, but that was what Dominic was waiting for. A haymaker came barreling at his head, hitting him right in his temple and causing him to seize, as he was most likely going to die from the blow.
Taking blood that was pouring out of the downed man's nose, he flung it into another’s eye, blinding him as he kicked him in the stomach. That last punch was enough to kill, but it also hurt his own hand, possibly breaking a knuckle. He was fighting an unwinnable battle against multiple foes who were replenishing themselves.
The massive crowd of bodies made it clear that this was where the bulk of the group tried to come through, a full-out frontal assault on the building. Little did they know a fucking badass was sitting at the front. Just as he was about to get overwhelmed, an explosion rang out near the gate as fire blocked off more people from coming in.
“Damn, I can’t let you have all the fun now, can I?” Dominic couldn’t help but smile at the sound of her voice. “Well, I left a few of them for you to take care of, Alicia.”
…
At the very back of the gate was a much more coordinated force. A large portion of the people attacking were just part of the crowd. They rushed in when they saw others doing so, not wanting to miss out on the food and supplies that the group still had. All of these at the back were part of the same group, and they systematically killed those on the wall and climbed in using rope ladders.
The final one to get out of the armoured vehicle was a raven-haired, pale white-skinned beauty. Even from how far away they were from the carnage, she could smell the blood being spilt from all around. It excited her as she thought about the changes this would bring; she couldn’t hold this house. Even now, she knew how strong the leader was, but this was a slap in his face; it was a black eye that others would view as his weakness.
They moved to close in from the back of the mansion, the sound of dogs dying and tearing apart their men, the only thing they heard, until someone spoke. “I thought I smelled something wicked this way. It appears my power is more than just telepathy, but also good at sensing demons.” The men were armed, and as the preacher approached them, all of them began to fire.
He held his arms out in a placating manner as bullets curved, missing him. He spoke. “I’d rather not take the life of a man, but that thing leading you is no longer human. Step aside, or I’ll send you to perdition with her.” For the briefest of moments, the group went quiet, everyone waiting for someone else to make the first move before they’d decide what to do themselves. The woman picked up one of the fence guards with one hand effortlessly as she bit into his neck. Nothing like the body-draining happened, but it was clear to see she was drinking his blood.
Finally drinking her fill, she unlatched with a satisfied moan before she asked her own people. “So, out of the two of us, which one do you want to be your enemy?” With that, everyone moved in tandem as the gunfire began again. The vampire woman was slowly walking toward the preacher.
Chapter 82
The invaders would win; it was only a matter of time. They would slowly wear down the much smaller forces still hiding inside the mansions, taking them over one by one like a swarm of insects picking over the carcass of a dead animal. That was the fate of the mansion… Except that wasn’t what was going to happen now. The bravery of a person who wanted the world to stay the same but now knew it couldn’t, who took a risk, had shifted the outcome.
It began with music. ‘Die for you’ by Grabbitz began to play, low at first; only a handful of people heard it, but the music slowly got louder. Those allied with the mansion could only hear the song at a normal volume, while the invaders could only hear a blaringly loud version that overpowered their ability to hear. No one knew what was happening; the defenders were only confused, while the attackers only thought the loud music would help them.
The music was so loud to the attackers that it almost deafened the gunfire… Almost, but the gunfire was coming from an angle that would have been impossible to hit anyone… That was if the bullets weren’t curving and homing in on the attackers. The power wasn’t nearly as strong as a normal gun, but when the person was firing a magazine of thirty bullets in seconds, power didn’t really matter.
Those close to the ground floor who were trying to rip the metal, wood, and bones blocking their entrance were some of the only ones spared because they were too close to the house, and the bullets didn’t aim at them. The loud music didn’t let them know anything was wrong until a grenade landed at their feet. The grenade began to expand, causing even more damage while barely damaging the building for some reason.
The explosion was enough to clear all those around the house, even over the loud music; they could still see and feel the explosion. It was enough to clear the landing spot for the person, as Vicky finally made her move. Jumping down, her legs should have broken, but they didn’t. The bone armor she put on didn’t have a force-dampening effect, but it did now.
Someone was smart enough not to give her a chance, and his handgun fired at one of the gaps in the armor, but the bullet was pulled to the chestpiece. She retaliated by aiming her shotgun at the man and blowing him and many of the people around him away while injuring just as many. The shotgun blast spread was more than what should have been possible; at the same time, the kickback was lessened while the bullet velocity was increased. It should have been impossible; it went against the laws of physics, and yet, it was still happening.
Blood poured down her face, her eyes bleeding, her body shaking as she fired away, emptying both the reloaded AK and shotgun she had, clearing out most of the attackers trying to break into the building. Blood poured out of her mouth as the guns began to change. The shotgun shrank slightly while the AK lost a special red ring around its barrel. The boots began to shift, taking on a bigger appearance, raising her an inch or two as she turned back toward the building and jumped up the fifteen or so feet to reach the window.
She pulled herself in before all the specialized upgrades she made to the equipment wore off, tired almost to the point of passing out. She took the time she just saved clearing the building to rest.
…
“What the hell is this?” I questioned quietly as I could see a checkpoint up ahead. It was close enough, and they had done such a good job blocking the road that I decided to see what they were up to instead of just barreling through after killing everyone. They also hadn’t shot at me on sight, which was a big plus for them. I warned the girls; all three were still sleeping from the boring trip, as I didn’t want them to be woken up by gunfire if the worst happened.
“Hey, wake up. We got a blockade up ahead. Things might get hostile.” I approached and could see the surprise, worry, and fear in the eyes of the people guarding the blockade, but still, none of them raised their weapons at me. I thought it might have been an enterprising group, someone who set up a checkpoint to shake down passersby, but it appeared they knew who I was and were smart enough not to test me.
A man walked out with body armor and an assault rifle to greet me as he waved me over. “Hey, how’s it going? We’ll let you through, just give us a second.” Now… I’d have believed him, and his plan to stall me might have actually worked if I didn’t have supernaturally good senses. I could hear the real leader up on the setup catwalk listening to a walkie-talkie.
“Stall him for as long as you can; we’re still having resistance taking over most of the mansions.” I could only sigh in frustration. I was really getting sick of people, and it was far too early for any real threat to attack our base, but I was worried about my girlfriends. Sure, they were all powered individuals; it meant that most should be safer than normal people, but bullets didn’t care how special people were.
They could still die; they could be overwhelmed. In a few years, I had no doubt they’d be able to fight any number of people without me there… But they were all too inexperienced; they had too much of their humanity left; they might hesitate to kill someone… And that could cost them their lives. So I was furious they waited for me to leave.
I didn’t say anything. Once I heard they were trying to stall me, my first thought wasn’t to figure out exactly what was happening; it was to get to the mansions as fast as I could to ruin their plans. There was no killing for style points this time. A bone spike appeared out of thin air and flew at each of the people blocking our way. One second, they were alive and a threat; the next, they were cooling bodies.
Millie hadn’t seen just how violent I could be, and while she had improved from unlocking her powers, she still couldn’t help but scream at my seemingly wanton violence. I spoke to them. “They’re attacking the mansion right now; I heard them speaking over the walkie-talkies. This semi is too slow; I’m going to go ahead, catch up when you can.”
I could fire out bonespikes close to a thousand miles an hour. While carrying something would slow the pace down dramatically, it would still be much faster going in a straight line, bypassing all the obstacles, possibly even faster than a helicopter could go, but I could only do so by myself at the moment until I got stronger.
If it would take over an hour to get back by vehicle, I could get there in thirty minutes flying there on the bone throne I had built. I just hoped I wouldn’t be too late; there was a real chance that the mansion's powered could fend off the attack, but for how long could they? Guns only had a limited amount of bullets, and not everyone was a genetic freak like me.
Chapter 83
Victor’s Point of View
“Agh, I’m hit! Mother fucker! How is he so fast!?” One of the men assaulting from this direction cried out as he took a knife to his neck, while the rest still fired at me. Gunfire ripped through where I just was as I popped out on the other side of a tree, flinging another knife in their direction. I had already used up my ammo, and they were now keeping a tighter group, so I couldn’t pick up any of theirs anymore as they protected the lady in the middle.
The gut feeling I got from her was that she was the most dangerous one out of them all. And as I finally killed enough to be able to toss a knife at her, I realised where I messed up. I had been telekinetically lifting myself, so I weighed about half as much as I normally did. It allowed me to get around faster as I bounced around them more than ran. My power was great at stopping bullets, but as she easily caught my knife, smiled, then threw it right back at me. I knew I was done fighting them.
I managed to move my head out of the way as I telekinetically shifted the blade, but the knife still dug into my shoulder. I retreated, hoping I bought them enough time. I was going to run out of the wall and circle around to the front. I could possibly beat them home if I did, but to my horror, she came running at me. From perfect stillness to moving faster than any human had the right to, she charged at me with a maniacal gleam in her eye and a terrifying smile on her face.
It was clear that she didn’t view me, or anyone else, as human anymore, but as prey. She viewed herself as something superior and viewed the rest of humanity as food. I turned and bolted, running for the wall and hoping I was fast enough, or that she didn’t want to chase me that far away from the mansions.
…
I flew over another checkpoint, bone spikes flying out and killing everyone in sight, as I couldn’t help but smile at the thought of someone inside the nearby buildings. From their viewpoint, they would hear a loudly playing song, ‘Axel F’ by Crazy Frog, fly past overhead at over two hundred miles an hour, and come outside to see that everyone was dead.
The only reason I wasn’t cackling at the situation was just how many people and checkpoints they had to stop me from showing up. If they had enough people to put up multiple checkpoints to slow me down like this, how many people did they have inside fighting to take over the mansions? Were they smart enough to do a hit-and-run after their people told them about me heading back in this direction?
I wasn’t sure; I just knew I had to keep up this speed, otherwise I could lose people close to me, and if someone was stupid enough to stick around after the fact, then… They deserved what I was going to do to them.
“Bing bing!” Crazy Frog still blaring as I kept up the pace. I would be worn out by the time I got there, but still would have enough in the tank to kill any number of the invaders there were.
…
George’s Point of View
The world went fucking crazy. Half of my men were dead, the other half injured, and only I was left without injury, defending our mansion from all sides as I was running out of energy. My hands were shaking, my shoulder was numb from rifle recoil, and I could barely stand; I was that tired from the constant running back and forth to kill people climbing up the windows.
At the very least, I was glad my daughter wasn’t here but with the man. How differently would I have done things if I knew how bad things could have gotten? People just kept coming like fucking zombies. They watched as I blew away more and more of them. The few that managed to get up in the building and get a shot off were quickly gunned down and thrown back out, refreshing our ammo. How many hundreds did I kill?
Hours of fighting, and only now did things finally click. Fuck everyone else. Fuck them with a fucking rusty spoon. I only care for me and my own now. The world is gone and dead, if I survived this… I would become the most brutal when it came to protecting this piece of heaven we had.
…
Third Person Point of View
Over half of the mansions were overrun. Those inside were slain; everything of value taken or ruined. If something of value was too heavy, it would be destroyed; people didn’t care that these people had been helping them for weeks. That many more would have starved to death if they weren’t being fed by them. But this had to happen. People were too kind; they needed to see how bad people could be before it finally clicked for them.
Alicia and Dominic made it inside, saving one of the mansions from being overrun while they caught their breath. Both were somehow not targeted very often by gunmen, as the gunmen bypassed them to break into houses, thinking they’d be quickly overwhelmed or just didn’t want to shoot because of the collateral damage.
The police mansion had somehow held up; the same went for the mansion that housed all the guards. It wasn’t for the sake of the guards defending the building with their lives, but the fact that the guards would be killed if they tried to surrender. It also had the most guns, which meant fewer people tried to break in.
One of the mansions was owned by a crazy man. He was smart enough to house people in his mansion, and all of them defended vehemently, knowing what would happen to them if the rioters managed to break in. He rigged plenty of ‘Home Alone’ style traps all around the mansion, and they were racking up a surprisingly high number of casualties.
Some of the mansions had just gotten lucky; barely anyone tried to break into them because they were on the outskirts of the explosion areas. But the main mansion under fire was the powered house. All of Danny’s women worked together to keep them away; everyone of value lived in this house, and it showed by how strong they were after they stopped pulling their punches.
Melissa and Lissa were firing at the people. As meek as Melissa was, she was aware of what would happen to them if people managed to break in, and after killing a handful, her attitude toward death began to shift closer to her future self, who was absolutely going crazy killing people, not even trying to break into the mansion.
Vicky had begun to enhance weapons when she could; they weren’t nearly as powerful as the first versions, but when you get a new superpower, you tend to go all out with it. Now she was running on fumes. Jade was handling the logistics, moving ammo and guns to where they were needed. Ellen controlled nearby shrubs as they reached out and grabbed people, not killing them but taking them out of the fight.
Luna was another one who was using suppressive fire. Her cat instincts didn’t really help her too much, but as someone stronger, faster, and more perceptive than a base human, she could pull fire away from the more squishy individuals now that Darcy was down from taking so many bullets. They didn’t kill her, but enough of them were enough to take her out of commission for a while.
Beatrice wasn’t in the mansion anymore. She teleported to the ground and was sabotaging those on the outside, as there were so many they wouldn’t recognise someone from the mansions at first glance. She was the reason many of the other mansions hadn’t fallen yet… But still, it was only a matter of time, as the real threat was finally pushing its way toward the back end of the mansions.
