Chapter 491 - 463: Traveling with Vajra

Chapter 491: Chapter 463: Traveling with Vajra

Fang Chenyi had no idea what the temperature was like inside, so he certainly wasn’t going to let Qi Xiaotian follow him. After all, the guy’s physique and strength were still far too lacking.

He could tell that Qi Xiaotian was already struggling to endure the current temperature.

And judging by how quickly it was heating up out here, he believed the temperature inside could very well reach over a hundred degrees Celsius.

At that rate, there was no way Qi Xiaotian could go in with him.

Instead of letting him follow for a while only to have him turn back later, it was better to have him lead the team back outside to wait.

As if he’d just thought of something, Fang Chenyi reached into his pocket, pulled out a small, earth-yellow pearl, and handed it directly to Qi Xiaotian.

"Here. Keep this on you. Store it somewhere safe and close to your body. Don’t lose it, and don’t take it out to look at it."

Qi Xiaotian didn’t ask any questions. He simply took the pearl, placed it in a pocket close to his body, and zipped it shut. After double-checking that it was secure, he nodded at Fang Chenyi.

"Alright then, Brother Fang. You have to be extremely careful. If the temperature inside gets too high, you must retreat immediately. We’ll figure out another way. Also, I’ll contact our people outside right now and have them prepare and deliver some protective suits."

But Fang Chenyi just waved his hand.

"Don’t bother. A round trip would be too much of a hassle. Besides, even with those suits, you wouldn’t be able to withstand extreme temperatures. I estimate it’s likely already over a hundred degrees Celsius in there. At that point, you won’t be able to get close, even with protective gear."

Qi Xiaotian was stunned. ’Over a hundred degrees Celsius? My god! Wouldn’t that mean you’d be cooked the second you stepped inside...?’

Fang Chenyi could tell what Qi Xiaotian was thinking. He smiled, patted his shoulder, and said reassuringly,

"Don’t worry, your Brother Fang has plenty of tricks up his sleeve. I’m sure I can handle it, even if it’s over a hundred degrees Celsius. Do I look even a little bit hot to you right now?"

Just as Fang Chenyi said, he was still wearing his full camouflage uniform, and it seemed not a single drop of sweat had beaded on his brow the entire time.

This left Qi Xiaotian speechless. ’Brother Fang’s power is just too freakish.’

Of course, Fang Chenyi wasn’t about to tell him that he had the Water Spirit Pearl.

’Forget 100 degrees Celsius,’ he thought. ’As long as I have the Water Spirit Pearl, I should be able to withstand 200 or even 300 degrees.’

’Besides, even if I can’t take it, or if the Water Spirit Pearl isn’t enough to protect me, I can just turn back. It’s no big deal.’

’Besides, he believed the System wouldn’t give him a mission he couldn’t complete.’

’In fact, he had a hunch that the Water Spirit Pearl he’d obtained earlier was specifically for this mission.’

’It seemed like the System had arranged everything.’

After giving a few more instructions, Fang Chenyi turned to get back in the vehicle and continue onward. The distance was simply too great; he couldn’t possibly walk the rest of the way.

However, just as he turned and reached for the door handle, a series of loud hoots echoed from behind him.

He turned to see Vajra running toward him, clutching a large water canteen.

’And looking at him, the heat didn’t seem to be affecting him much at all.’

’Then again, considering his natural habitat, it made sense. Gorillas usually live in the tropics.’

’A temperature of several dozen degrees was probably nothing to him. Plus, after eating so many of those Medicine Pills, his constitution had long surpassed that of an ordinary gorilla.’

’Who’s to say he couldn’t withstand even higher temperatures?’

He stopped and looked at the approaching Vajra, then pointed quizzically at the canteen in his hands.

"What is it, Vajra? Are you bringing me the canteen?"

However, Vajra quickly shook his head, clutching his large canteen tightly with no intention of letting go. The next moment, right under Fang Chenyi’s confused gaze, Vajra yanked open the passenger-side door and scrambled inside.

Fang Chenyi instantly understood. ’Ah, so he wants to come with me.’ But the place he was headed was incredibly dangerous. Even if Vajra’s constitution was unusual and he could handle higher temperatures, he didn’t have a Water Spirit Pearl. ’If we really get in there, I won’t be able to help him.’

"Vajra, stop messing around. Go with Xiaotian and the others. I’m going in alone."

Fang Chenyi didn’t want to put Vajra in any danger, so he quickly told him to get out of the vehicle.

However, Vajra just shook his big head, pointed at the steering wheel, and then let out an impatient whistle, as if telling Fang Chenyi to get in the car and stop wasting time.

Seeing this, Fang Chenyi felt a wave of helplessness. Once the big fellow made up his mind, it was nearly impossible to change it. Even his own words were often ignored.

He gave the big ape an uncertain look and asked,

"Are you sure you want to go in with me? It’s extremely hot in there. If the temperature gets too high and you get baked into gorilla jerky, don’t blame me."

Fang Chenyi knew Vajra could understand him, so he tried a small threat. But to his surprise, the ape just gave him a disdainful look, hooted twice, and pointed at the steering wheel again.

Utterly defeated, Fang Chenyi sighed and turned to Qi Xiaotian.

"You all head back. Looks like I’m taking Vajra with me."

With that, he pulled open the driver’s side door and got in.

As everyone watched, Fang Chenyi drove the Mengshi away, leaving a cloud of dust in his wake as he sped toward his destination.

It kicked up a long tail of yellow sand as it went.

Watching the Mengshi disappear into the distance, Qi Xiaotian didn’t hesitate. He called for everyone to get in their vehicles, turned them around, and headed back the way they had come.

This was no time for hesitation. The longer they lingered, the more water they would consume.

And in this vast, desolate desert, losing their water supply was a death sentence.

Leaving Qi Xiaotian’s group aside, Fang Chenyi and Vajra drove deeper into the desert.

Although he couldn’t feel the heat outside, Fang Chenyi kept his eyes on the car’s thermometer: 52 degrees Celsius, 56 degrees Celsius, 60 degrees Celsius...
