S-Rank Harem: I Became My Character with Extra Control Skill
Chapter 284: Nowhere to Run"Nanny?" Chloe asked with a mixture of doubt and astonishment, looking at him with wide eyes as if he had spoken to her in an alien language. "Me... taking care of a demon?"
"That is right, Ryan, explain that to me once and for all. Do you really have the demon king Rohan's daughter hidden around here?" Ophelia intervened, leaning forward on the stone table, unable to hide her deep intrigue.
"Yes, I already said that a moment ago. She was a prisoner in one of the castle's outer towers," Ryan explained with total calm, resting his elbows on the hard surface of the table.
"Seeing her again allowed me to confirm something. Some time ago, it was exactly that little girl who was responsible for me ending up in the demon king Rohan's territory. And as fate would have it, it was exactly there that I met Beatrice."
Upon hearing her name and remembering that chaotic first encounter, Beatrice smiled slightly from her firm position behind Ryan's back. Then, she quickly recovered her bodyguard expression.
"Ah! I remember now," Karol exclaimed, hitting the table with the palm of her hand. "It was those two strange demons who teleported us. I remember very well that one of them did not have horns on her head. Are you telling me that one of them is the daughter of a demon king?"
"That is right, exactly that little hornless girl," Ryan confirmed, nodding his head. "I suppose the adult demon who was her companion at that time died at the hands of the enemy troops trying to protect her from Rigal."
"Hey, Ryan. I had not mentioned this to you before because honestly I never thought you were going to have absolutely anything to do with that particular little demon, but, she is actually..." Ophelia murmured, with a strangely serious expression, about to reveal a highly important secret.
"But Ryan, wait a moment," Mirian interrupted from her chair, frowning and looking at the trembling holy knight. "Do you not think this fanatical church woman might try to escape from us if you leave her in charge and unsupervised with the demon king's daughter? It would be a risk."
There was a heavy second of silence in the spacious throne room.
Ryan looked down for a moment and then let out a laugh. It was a genuine, deep laugh, laden with a malice so overwhelming that it made Chloe tremble in her cold stone seat.
"Ha ha ha. Escape? Escape exactly to where?" Ryan stared at Chloe, locking his cold green eyes directly onto the terrified girl's soul.
"You know that perfectly well, do you not, Chloe?" Ryan continued with a slow and lethal voice. "You are sitting deep inside a territory ruled by demons. There is absolutely nowhere to run for thousands of kilometers around." Ryan turned his face and looked back at Mirian to calm her doubts.
"Ironically for this holy knight, the safest place on this entire continent is exactly here. Right where we are gathered. I assure you she will not do anything foolish."
Chloe swallowed hard and nodded frantically, silently confirming every raw and realistic word from her captor.
Irina puffed out her cheeks in evident annoyance, looking Chloe up and down with clear distrust.
"Is that really the only reason you are keeping her alive?" Irina questioned, crossing her arms on the table. "Are you not trying to keep her as a simple human pet just because you find her cute and submissive?"
"Eh? His majesty would never do something as low and repulsive as that..." Alicia murmured, twitching her wolf ears from side to side and trying to defend her leader's honor and morality.
The girls exchanged glances, maintaining a sepulchral silence as they secretly and suspiciously evaluated Ryan's true intentions for sparing the life of an enemy of the Church.
Then, completely breaking the tension of the interrogation, Lise let out a loud, vulgar burst of laughter from her distant seat.
"Ha ha ha, the young master is quite the insatiable stallion," the wind dragoness mocked, resting her beautiful face in her hands and looking at Ryan with pure carnal desire. "Such a powerful king needs a good harem, after all."
"Hey, shut your mouth once and for all, you damn lizard!" Helen grumbled from behind Ryan, raising her hand with a clear and direct murderous intent toward the dragoness.
"Alright, that is more than enough," Ryan ordered, cracking the knuckles of his gloved fingers against the hard stone table to cut the noisy argument at its root.
When everyone's attention centered back on him in absolute silence, Ryan looked Ophelia straight in the eyes.
"The main point of this whole matter is that she is here, completely under my control," he said, referring to the demon king Rohan's young daughter.
"And her father's vast territory has certain resources and materials that I want and need. Ironically, they are resources that we once obtained on our first official mission for the Lunar Veil guild."
"Yes... I remember that annoying trip very well," Helen grumbled, relaxing her offensive posture a bit as she remembered the past. "That woman, Sophia, forced us to go to that monster nest without giving us good pay."
"Sophia, huh. She used to be a tough and strict woman with all of us, but at the same time she was quite kind in her own way," Mirian commented with a small nostalgic smile, remembering their days as simple, poor adventurers.
"A damn exploiter, you mean," Helen added, snorting with extreme annoyance as she recalled the low pay.
'Wow, so many things really have happened in just a few months,' Ryan reflected in the silence of his sharp mind, listening to his companions' complaints.
'To think we went from being simple rookies in a human guild... to this. A Demon King... Starting tonight, I will probably be recognized by the Church and the leaders of humanity as one. It will not take long for the whole world to learn of Rigal's death.'
"So, if I understand your logic correctly, what you want to get out of those neighboring lands are those resources in exchange for the girl's ransom?" Ophelia asked, pulling him out of his dark political thoughts.
"That is completely correct," Ryan affirmed, nodding slowly. "In this intense battle I realized something vital for our survival. We have grown stronger at a monstrous speed, yes, but that simply will not be enough. I want to elevate the military power and defensive equipment of absolutely every member of this army," he said, looking one by one at the girls of his group in front of him.
'Helen, Beatrice, Mirian, and Karol matured a lot in this fight and leveled up in rank.' Ryan calculated internally, evaluating his assault force's new general statistics.
'But Alicia and Irina are still stuck at A-rank. That is simply not enough. I need to get both of them to S-rank as soon as possible. With Mirian and Helen firmly at SS-rank, and Beatrice mastering her new darkness powers, our forces have become truly formidable... but it is still not enough.'
"I think I understand, yes. I do not think it is a bad idea for you to try negotiating with that demon king. He will without a doubt keep in mind that you have spared the lives of two of his children," Ophelia added.
"By the way, what do you plan to do with the demon king Rigal's body? I still smell his stinking scent," Lise said.
The girls in the group stared intently at Ryan. Waiting for some order.
"Is it not obvious? We will use his body to forge weapons, that guy's claws were incredibly hard. I think good weapons will come out of his parts."
"Weapons?" they asked in unison.
"Is that not possible to achieve?" Ryan asked with some uncertainty.
"Yes... of course you can do that, I just could not help but think that, to me as a demon queen, they could do the same thing, for a moment I felt an enormous displeasure," Ophelia informed.
"Lady Ophelia please do not say such things, I would never allow something like that to happen," Ivis exclaimed.
"You are right, I just got carried away," Ophelia said with a smile, resuming her usual posture. "But..." Then, Ophelia turned her gaze back to Ryan.
"I think I will have to send you one of my talented blacksmiths, yours are skilled of course, but they have never forged demonic weapons, or am I mistaken?"
"You are right, we have not worked with demonic weapons, aside from my boomerang, it is the only demon weapon we possess, even Beatrice is still using human weapons," Ryan added.
"Your Majesty," a firm, respectful voice called out from the dark hallway leading to the castle stairs.
An elven soldier, his light armor dented and stained with blood from the combat in the outer towers, was entering with slow steps through the doors into the shattered throne room.
And walking timidly right by his side came the small dark-haired demon without horns.
