Noa
I hated watching him leave. I hated leaving my mates behind but as soon as Wyatt let me take control again, we knew we needed to go. I exited the hotel, hands in our pockets, trying to ignore the raging case of blue balls Guy left me with.
“You were really about to fuck him in the middle of a hotel hallway.”
“I’m not talking to you right now.” I chuckled as he hid in a corner of our mine, scribbling away at something in his hands. Sometimes Wyatt is such a pussy when it comes to our mates.
“I’m just saying, you’ve only ever acted out of control like that with Sapphyra.”
Over and over again.
“How about you focus on the people that have been following us for the past five minutes.”
“What? Nobody is…” The hairs on the back of my neck stood up. I clenched my hands but kept them in my pockets, walking a little slower.
“Don’t stop walking. Just keep going. Be casual. I clocked three of them in the hotel lobby.”
“Damn, I must be getting sloppy.” Three? Fuck. Definitely getting sloppy. But can you really blame me when my man is dressed like a five course meal?
“Good thing you have me around…and could you start focusing on the task at hand please?!”
“Don’t act like you don’t fantasize about them too! What about Sapph and Guy, won’t they come after them too?” If anyone laid a hand on our mates, I would send them to their makers piece by piece.
“There were only three following us. But…we trust Guy to protect her, don’t we?”
“Damn right, we do.” I smirked and walked around a corner, hiding in the shadows behind a trashcan.
Keeping my ears trained, I waited for the tell-tale sound of footsteps or wingbeats—anything to give them away.
Flap. Flap. Flap.
Someone with wings landed on the ground, a few feet away from where I was hiding. Their scent made me grind my teeth.
Rhea.
Not just her either. Mnemosyne and Theia as well. They scanned the alleyway, hoping to find traces of me. But even though I’d only been in this city for a short time, I was already comfortable enough to prowl around in it.
“Didn’t he come this way?” Mnemosyne asked, glancing at her book.
Shit. I forgot about her power. That damn memory machine was just unfair.
“Her power can’t pull fresh memories.” Wyatt chimed in my mind. He stood in front of a whiteboard with his hands clasped behind his back. On the whiteboard there were names of all the titans with question marks and notes around all of them.
“How the hell would you know that?”
“Because if it could have, she would have used it to spot us by now. My best guess is that there at least has to be an hour or more for her to pull from. It could be longer but that's the safe bet I’m going with for now.”
“Let’s pray you’re right.”
While the titans were busy talking, I moved again. This time I’d moved towards the other end of the alleyway, careful not to make a splash when my foot hit a shallow puddle of water.
“I know I saw him come this way.” Theia’s head whipped around in my direction but it was like she was seeing right through me. For some reason her powers couldn’t pick me up. And here I thought she could see everything with those eyes.
“We have to find Wyatt.” Rhea mumbled, putting her hands over her ears. Her eyes were sunken in, her pale skin was caked in dirt. She looked like shit.
“Maybe you three should try actually looking for him first!” Another familiar voice called out.
“Shit, it’s Tethys! Move!”
He didn’t have to tell me twice. As a whip of water formed out of the puddle next to me, my body rolled out of the way with time to spare.
“It would be a hell of a lot easier to get around if we could just teleport!”
“If you wanna burn us out faster then go ahead.”
“Wyatt…no, I suppose you would be his wolf, Noa.” Tethys flies down towards the alleyway but something about her skin and movements seem off. She used to move freely, flowing like water. Now, all her movements are stiff and small paths of light run under her skin like a circuit board.
“Not a circuit board. Barbie.”
“You think whatever happened to Barbie, happened to Tethys too?”
“If I know Barbie like I think I do then she probably had more than one contingency besides Valeria.”
If that’s the case, then how many more contingencies did this bitch have?
“Tethys…or is it Barbie now? Hard to tell considering you hop into so many bodies.” I walked out of the shadows, hands raised to show non-aggression. I would teleport away as soon as I got the opportunity. Right back up to the surface, free and clear. I might be tired afterwards but they’d have a hell of a time catching up to me.
“Tethys is fine. It’s the name I chose after all. But you? Noa, you seem like a free spirit.”
“You’d be surprised at what I am.” My claws itched to come out.
She smiled but it didn’t reach her eyes.
“What I mean to say is, we’ll do you a favor and separate you and Wyatt. Think about it? You’d be a free wolf. You could have Sapphyra and Guy all to yourself, isn’t that what you’ve always wanted?” Tethys spread her arms wide, as if she could convince me with a hug.
If this woman wasn’t careful, I’d rip her arms clean off her body.
A growl, low and deadly, snapped from my jaws.
“We’re a packaged deal, fish-lips. You want Wyatt?” My claws extended. I could feel my bones shift, getting ready to turn hybrid.
“You have to go through me first!”
“What are you doing? If she wants me then just give me to her.”
“Not a chance asshat. And for a guy that’s such a genius, you sure like to make dumb moves.”
“I’m making the only move that matters! Because they had a chance to come after our family and they didn’t…but whats to stop them if we run?”
I hated it when he had a point. He always plays it smart.
“Figure out their endgame, then go murderhobo. Deal?”
“Deal.”
My claws retracted and I raised my palms up again.
“Tell me why you want him and I’ll go peacefully. Wolf’s honor.”
The four of them pass looks of doubt around but what choice did they really have.
“Don’t worry about the why. Just be prepared for a good night’s sleep.” Tethys said with a smile.
“What?” Something strong and disgusting hit my nose. Wolfsbane? No, Dragonsbane? Both? But where the hell was it coming from?
I staggered back a bit and stared down at my wet shoes. They were covered in odd purple and blue water, small leaves drifted around in it. Leaves that I was all too familiar with, confirming my theory.
“The…puddle…” I mumbled, words slurring like I’d had one too many.
“Whoopsie, did I forget to mention that we sort of led you to this alleyway by making ourselves easy to spot?” Tethys taps her chin, smug as fuck.
God, and here I was trying to be friendly to her and her husband.
My knees hit the ground, the rest of me followed suit and folded over like wet laundry.
“There we go. You just take a nice nap.” Tethys stepped over to me, grabbing me by the collar. I grinned in her face though, holding onto my consciousness long enough for one last thing.
“I hope…Oceanus…pulls your…plug.”
Her eyes widened with fury, nostrils flaring as she reared her arm back and punched me square in the face.
Sorry Sapph. Sorry Guy. We might not make it back to you.
