“Guy. What the hell are we supposed to do now?” I mumbled, placing a protective hand on my belly.
“What we’re not going to do is start panicking and go looking for him.” Bullshit. I could feel his heart hammering against my neck right now. He was just as worried as I was.
“Too late for that. I’m beyond worried about him, Guy. Can’t you go find him? I mean, if I trigger him then it’s probably best…” I couldn’t say the words. I had to separate myself from Wyatt, at least until he healed enough to stand my touch.
Isn’t this what I wanted? Didn’t I want to finally be free from him?
No, not like this anyway.
“I’m not going to look for him right now.” the words felt forced but I knew he was being strong for me.“What I will do is take you back to your mother and help you get some rest.”
“I’m fine—”
“Bullshit.” He furrowed his brow and gently turned me around to face him. “You look exhausted and besides, it’s not just you I’m worried about. Did you forget that you’re pregnant and you’re out here using your signature attacks like they cost nothing?”
My nose wrinkled and I pouted, rolling my eyes like a spoiled teenager. Yeah he was right but I didn't have to like it.
“Don’t make me tell Ms. Michelle.”
Just the thought of her giving me the mom look had me break out into a cold sweat. Me—a grown ass adult dragon with her own problems and I’m still scared of upsetting my mama.
“Fine. I’ll get some rest with my mom but you have to go take care of Wyatt. Even if it’s just reporting on how he’s doing. Please Guy, for my peace of mind?”
I widened my eyes, making them as big and blue and pathetic as possible.
He sighed and groaned. Gotcha.
“Fine. But only after I get you to your moms so you can rest. Deal?”
I nodded. “Deal.” I ran a hand over my belly, silently praying for Wyatt's safety. Our baby needs its father.
Guy gently swooped me up in his arms but I freed myself. “Give me just a minute to tell those two I’ll be going. I told them I’d be back.” I didn’t want to lie to Mnemosyne and Theia. The last thing I needed was those two becoming bitter and heinous on their own.
“Okay but I’m not leaving your side…actually, one second.” Guy took off with one flap of his wings and landed somewhere down the hall. A loud pop caught my attention and then moments later he reappeared with Themis at his side. She was dusty as hell too.
“Uh…” I raised a questioning brow.
“What? I didn’t actually want to fight.” Themis said, dusting off her scales first and clothes second. “Now that Tethys is dead, I focus on actually doing what makes sense for me: being a real judge.”
I squint at her. “You are not about to be the judge at Rupert’s trial.”
Her eyes widened and she nodded. “I’m impressed you managed to get that in one go. I plan on volunteering but I doubt they’ll take me on. Besides, I have my own trial to attend for all my crimes as well.”
At this point, don’t we all?
With a slow sigh I walk away from her. “Follow me. I think I know what I need to do for you and Menmosyne.”
“Mnny is still alive?!”
“Ah, so I’m not the only one that calls her that?” I smiled at Themis’ blush.
“You should not be! I am her sister.” I could hear the annoyance in her voice and I friggin loved that.
“Girls, you’re both beautiful. Now if you please.” Guy ushered us on but I was already ahead of them.
“Rhea and Tethys are dead, aren’t they?” Theia asked, frowning when I nodded in affirmation.
“I can’t say I’m sorry about Rhea’s death…not after what she did to Wyatt. But someone should find Oceanus and tell him about Tethys.” He deserved that much at least. But Rhea could rot in hell for all I cared.
“Oceanus is in a coma.” Mnemosyne added. “He has been ever since the fight with Rupert in the city.”
Great, more bad news. “I should—” Guy cuts me off.
“You should go down to Cappville…now.” His thick eyebrows knit together, and I had to fight the giggle fit coming up. He was just like a parent, he’d definitely make a good one some day.
And that made my belly flutter. Easy girl, we’re very much capable of giving him a baby too if we aren’t careful.
“Right, okay so Cappville first and then I’m going to check on Oceanus. In the meantime…I might not be able to give classes out at the moment but I do have a suggestion for the three of you. Why not open up the library again and you three can help run it?”
They blinked, hopefully those squinting eyes meant that the idea was at least halfway decent.
“I like the idea.” Mnemosyne smiled. Themis glared at me. Theia sighed and ran her hand down her face.
“I figured you would.” Her blush at my wink gave me a warm and fuzzy feeling.
“Mine!” Guy snatched me up and quickly took off into the sky.
Huh…so that’s what that feels like?
We were in Cappville in seconds, back at that same hotel as before. In fact he opened the door with a key hastily and all but tossed my ass onto the bed.
“What happened to bringing me back to my mom?” A slow smile crept up on my face as I watched him adjust his erection aggressively.
“That was before you decided to flirt in my face for the second time today.” He growled.
“I’m sorry—” his lips crashed on mine. I moaned into the kiss but immediately felt guilty. I knew what he wanted, to make that primal claim on me. To make me forget all about anyone outside of our bond.
My body wanted that too but my heart still worried about Wyatt.
I pressed a gentle but firm hand to his chest as he laid me back on the bed.
“Stop. You said you’d go look for Wyatt.”
“After I got you settled in with your mother.” Guy’s wolfish grin sent tingles down to my belly. “Her shift at the station ends in two hours.”
I should protest more. I should not be moaning when he bites the tender junction of my neck.
Wyatt is out there all alone…and we’re in here…and shit. Guy places a hand on my belly, reminding me how badly I need to keep my stress levels down.
“I’m gonna find him, angel, and I’ll stay with him. But I can’t leave you until I know you’ve been fed, bathed…and taken care of properly.” I gasped as he gripped my thighs a little too hard. Hard enough to pull me back into his orbit.
I trust Guy, I trust him with the love of my life. So when he says he's going to stay with Wyatt, I know I can let go…just for a little while.
“Fuck it.” I wrap my legs around his waist and try to lose myself in the moment because if there's one thing today has taught me?
There might not be a tomorrow.
