With one more slap from my sturdy tail, the board was up and ready. And by board, I mean a fat slab of wood. I’d made my way back to Cyran City, in front of the now ruined town hall and placed it adjacent to the front doors.

“At least now they won’t be able to miss it.” I mumbled, scratching my chin. My stomach curled when a sickeningly familiar scent smacked me in the nose.

“Voss. What are you doing here?” My immediate left began to heat up, his presence made known. Seriously. Asking a question is not permission for you to stand next to me.

“I could ask you the same.” He paused, turning his head to look around. I swear to all the gods if his perfect hair hits me in the face, I’m chopping it off.

“I’m here to put up a wish board.” I expected some snark, patronizing laughter. I did not expect genuine curiosity.

“A wish board? What’s that?”

“It’s exactly what it sounds like. You take a small object, hold it close to your heart and make a wish, then put it on the board.”

He raised a brow and crossed his arms.

“And then what happens?”

“Uh…” Caprisha made it sound easy enough but explaining it back to someone else? “Just try it, first. Oh and don’t wish to hurt anyone! It won’t come true…and it’s pretty mean.”

He scoffed but shrugged. “I wasn’t going to.” Voss reached into his back pocket and pulled out a small metal pin. Holding it tightly, he pressed it to his chest and closed his eyes for a second. When he opened them, a flicker of something in his eye gave me pause. Determination perhaps?

But determined for what is the question.

“There.” Voss placed the pin into the board and stood back. We both waited a good five minutes, waiting for something dramatic to happen. No such luck. I guess it’s waiting on me to get off my ass and answer his wish then. Great.

Swallowing my groan, I walk over and pull the pin out of the board. The moment I do, lightning shoots up my arm all the way up to my heart.

“I wish I could be captain of the Cyran City guards.”

“Interesting.” I mumbled. Voss blushed, “what’s interesting?”

“Your wish. I heard it.” The moment he heard that, his stance changed. Shoulders drawn back, on foot pressed back like he was getting ready to run.

“Easy now, there’s no need to run. I want to help you.” Did I like voss? Not particularly, and he knew that but I liked the idea of his wish. Cyran City needed a good guard captain and a great guard in general. And if he’s Guy’s closest friend-slash-soldier, even though I hate to admit it, he’s probably best for the job.

[Wish System Activated!]

“The what system? Who said that?” Voss looked around, eyes wild with danger.

“That would be my System. She can be kinda loud when she wants to be, I guess.”

[Well hello to you too, you beautiful pregnant bitch. Look at you, glowing like a firefly over here! I’m proud of you. Guy must have taken care of you pretty damn good, eh?]

I blushed and turned my gaze anywhere but at Voss. Shit.

“Shh! Anyway, what is this uh, Wish System thing?” Please talk about anything else while I’m trying to be kind to my man’s ex.

[The Wish System. Different from the so rudely erased H.R. system but vaguely similar. When you accepted his wish, a new quest opened up to help his wish come true. Completing his wish will grant you both rewards.]

“Rewards, eh? Like what?”

[You’ll just have to find out.]

I lean over and hold my hand up next to Voss’s ear and whisper. “That means she’s pulling it out of her ass.”

[You act like I can’t hear you.]

I snickered, “oh, I know you can.” With a few taps of the menu, I pull up the quest.

[Wish Quest: Build Cyran City’s Guard Tower System]

[Materials needed: Materials already in VOID]

[Suggested Design: Walled Tower combination.]

[Personnel Requirements: Quest Giver: Voss.]

[Quest completers: Voss and Sapphyra.]

“Well isn’t that fancy. An actual quest to complete.” I pulled up the blueprints I had available. None matched the design system suggested.

“Hey Voss, when you guys had the wall up, were there any towers on it?”

“Yeah there were a couple but I don’t think a wall dividing the city is going to do Cyran any good, not anymore at least. Most if not all of the capps have gone underground so we could probably come up with something else.” He tapped his chin in thought.

“Something else on your mind? This is your quest after all. How do you envision the guard?”

He closed his eyes and softly hummed to himself.

“For starters, I want protection around the city. There should be a tower facing each direction so there's nowhere for monsters and criminals to hide. Second, I do think a wall would be good but I’m not sure if there's any material sturdy enough to slow down a dragon on a rampage.”

He opened his eyes and blushed, glancing at me from beneath his thick eyelashes.

“No offense.”

“Offense definitely taken…but I sort of deserve it. Okay,” I clap my hands together,” I think I know what you’re thinking of. Let me give it a go.”

I took off into the sky, circling around the city for a minute then I pulled up my menu.

[Customization]

“Lets make Cyran City impregnable…unlike me.” What? I can make a joke. I deserve a good laugh sometimes.

[I’m sure if I had a stomach i’d be clutching it with laughter]

“Shutup and just make the design he came up with already.”

[Design complete. New Design: Walled City]

[It’s giving modern medieval castle city style and I think I like it]

“No one cares what you like.”

[Bitch]

I smirked and started on what I’m sure would be the first of many reconstruction projects in the city.

[Don’t forget. Since this is a new design, it’s no longer Refurbish. This new ability will be Construct. Got it? I can say it again real slow for you.]

“Mute!”

I cut her off, shaking my head. I wanted sassy, and she’s always on point.

“Construct!”

As I circled around the city, I emptied my void. Each piece of debris turned into a section of the massive steel wall now encircling the city. Steel towers sat on the north, south, east and west sections of the city, tall enough to look over the wall as well. I even finished the design with a gate ripped straight out of a fairytale.

Landing back near Voss, I dusted myself off and gave myself a pat on the back.

“Try not to look too smug…I might just arrest you.”

“I’d like to see you…try?!” Taking in his new appearance I was stunned. Whatever outfit they’d given him before was seriously upgraded. Now with slots on his back for his wings, a tactical belt and a battle kilt on, dressed in all black and pink. Voss was gorgeous. A living work of art, like a supermodel.

I’m so fucking jealous.

[Quest Complete: Guard Master class gained. Congratulations Voss. Your wish has sharpened the city even further. With this class, you will also be able to mentor others that share a similar wish for law enforcement.]

[Quest Complete: Reward gained: Voss’s respect.]

He must not have heard that one.

“Wait,” I flew a few feet away from Voss. “You mean he gets a whole class and all I get is his respect? I want a refund.”

[Trust me on this one. You’re going to need all the allies you can get from this point on.]

“Why do you say that?”

It was then that I noticed a large gathering of people in the city’s center. They were surrounding someone on a small stage.

Wait. Is that Rupert?

[They didn’t tell you…but your baby boy’s trial is today.

SHIT!
