I didn’t wake up until I heard his voice. A soft hum—our wedding song. It’s been so long, I didn’t think I would get to hear it again. Smiling up at Wyatt, I sighed as his fingers gently scraped against my scalp. I used to not be able to feel his touch…so at least that’s a positive from having my dragon side suppressed.

“You’re up, good.” Softer than air, his lips pressed against my forehead. My eyes adjusted to the low light in the room and I took it all in. Our scent, oak and strawberries—just like our bedroom at home. The walls were pitch black but the pink stars on the ceiling made my heart ache.

Those were the designs of our nursery. I held back a sob, using the fluffy comforter to wipe my tears.

“Shit.” I mumbled, the world needed me at my best, not my weakest.

“Don’t. Don’t hide your emotions. You collapsed, Sapphyra, you’ve been going and going like nothing ever changed—and I’m partially to blame.” He said that last part like it left a bad taste in his mouth. He took off his glasses and turned to me, uttering two words I rarely hear him say.

“I’m sorry.” color me surprised. Wyatt usually says things like ‘forgive me’ and ‘my apologies’ but an ‘I’m sorry’? He usually avoided that specific phrase like the plague, it meant he was at his most vulnerable.

“You have nothing to be sorry for, Wyatt. You’re right, I left Sanctuary thinking that I’d changed—that I’d accepted my class but I hadn’t. Truth is, I don’t know if I ever will, not in my heart anyway.”

Turning to him, I smiled and cupped his cheek, careful not to phase through him with too much pressure.

“I did that to you. I took your wings, Sapphyra and I am so very sorry.” He grit his teeth, clenched his jaw while his fists clenched in raw anger. I shook my head, sitting up in bed. Taking his hand in mine, I stripped that anger from him with a kiss—a kiss I wish could have been more.

“You’re a jerk…but you’re my jerk and I forgive you for the class. Besides, you wouldn’t take them away without a way to get them back. You’re structured, not cruel…at least not to me.”

“Never to you, my princess.” He insisted, kissing me back. Back against the headboard, I sighed into his mouth when I felt his hands dip below the comforter and between my thighs.

“You scared me so fucking much. Never pass out like that again.” He declared, stealing my breath away. Hungrier now, each kiss came faster, pushing our heat to the surface. His palm ground against my clit, ripping a moan free. But he couldn’t push me past the edge. When his fingers slid past my pants and pushed my panties to the side, reaching into me…I felt off but I tried to ignore it. My walls clenched around his digits and that’s when his fingers went through my belly.

Why do I keep doing this to myself?

No matter how hard I ached for him, how delicious his touch felt…it was all just a breeze in the wind for me. He was my Wyatt but he was also a hologram, limited in the one way that we needed right now.

His touch was never heavier than a few pounds of pressure—the equivalent of a bag of sugar—anything more and he’d glitch. He would break…just like I am.

“I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have tried to…fuck!” I sobbed into a pillow, throwing myself down like a hormonal teenager. We were right there and its so fucked up to say it but it feels like thats where we’ll always be: halfway between ‘right there’ and gone with the wind.

He ripped his hand away, rubbing circles into my back. Minutes felt like hours but it was probably closer to seconds before he put his glasses back on and sighed heavily.

“He’s like you…so I get it.” He softly admitted, standing up.

Eyes weary and red, I look up from my pillow and raise a brow. “What?”

“Guy.” That name was dragged out kicking and screaming. “I know why you care for him…and it’s obvious he cares for you.”

My throat ran dry. I shook my head, already picking up what he was putting down.

“Wyatt, don’t–” Oh god.

“Stop, Sapphyra.” He turned his back on me. “This is hard enough for me to do as is. We need to stop pretending that everything is okay. It’s not and it may never well be.”

“Wyatt–” here comes the second set of tears.

“I will always be your husband, Sapph. That won’t change but this…” he motions to the bed, his side completely untouched.

“You need what I can’t give you.” His voice sounded like glass on the verge of shattering, like a man accepting his fate and goddammit that pissed me off so much.

Because he was right.

He stopped at the door and spoke to someone I couldn’t see. “Ten minutes”. Then he vanished into a beam of light, racing back towards my gem.

Guy walked in next. He’d taken off his gear, thank god he wore a t-shirt underneath. I didn’t even care that it had holes on the side.

“Sapph, something wrong?” He asked, stepping closer to the bed but not within touching distance, not yet. Something buzzed in the air between us, a silent energy that I’d been holding off in honor of my husband.

“I just…I’m exhausted is all, Guy. Wyatt and I…well, you know his form isn’t all the way solid, right?”

So fucking pathetic. I should just come out and say it. Say how my man is a ghost and that I need real flesh and blood to comfort me.

God, I hate myself.

Guy looked towards the ceiling, tilting his head.

“Pink stars? That’s an interesting choice for a master bedroom.”

Grabbing a lock of hair to twirl, I answer him low and soft. “It was never meant for our demographic.”

His eyes widened as he put two and two together. The color drained from his face.

“Why did he…I should go–” I held up a hand, halting him.

“Stay. Stay right there. I need…I need you here, okay?” I gulped, admitting it out loud. Guy searched my eyes for any other truths. His tongue clicked against the roof of his mouth.

He pursed his lips and tilted his head. Arms crossed, he nodded. “Yeah, I can tell. I can smell you across the room.” The longer we talked, the more his pupils dilated. How had I not noticed how tight his muscles were?

What could I say? Of course he was right. Damn you, Wyatt. Damn you for torturing me like this.

“You’re not a piece of meat, Guy. You matter and you’re–” wind rushed around the room, sending the comforter flying.

His voice pulled me in first.“Sapph, stop thinking and let me take care of you.”

I didn’t see him move but I felt his lips on me, hot, hungry and tender all at once. I moaned into his mouth, letting him lay me onto my back.

My uniform flew off as my blanket fell back down. He’s abusing his super speed, kissing down my breasts, thumbs circling the hard nubs.

“Guy…” he doesn’t stop.

His face is in between my legs, I feel his hot breath on my weeping pussy, passing the point of no return. His fingers spread my labia apart as he tongue lashes at my throbbing clit.

“Guy!”

My back arches off the bed and I squeeze his head with my thighs, holding him so tight a normal man might suffocate. But when his tongue vibrated, I lost my shit. 100 years with no sex and I’m embarrassed to say I came like a virgin on prom night. Hot liquid flowed out of me like a geyser, covering his entire face. Falling back against the bed, the covers shuffled and he popped out licking his lips—still on top of me.

Thighs trembling, my body still hummed with the Aftershocks, his name still on my lips. He looked…satisfied with himself—I suppose he would be after that.

“I’m not a piece of meat, Sapph…but I can devour you.” I hated how his wink made me quiver with need.

How could I respond to that? Tell him no? Shove him away? I didn’t have the strength to hold his warmth back anymore.

Wyatt must have known that too because my gem glowed and he reappeared, barely holding back his anger judging by that scowl on his face.

“Times up.”
