My hand trembled and my heart nearly beat out of my chest as I scooted back on the bed.

“Oh shit. We must have swapped while I was sleeping. I’m sorry! Here, let me try and concentrate, maybe I can swap back?” He closed his eyes…Wyatts eyes. The vein in his neck throbbed with concentration.

“I can’t do this.” I ran to the ladies showers in Beacon headquarters. How did we get here last night? Everything about last night is a blur but fuck all that.

I turned on the showers, stepping under the cool water. My clothes were still on but I didn’t even care. God, I’m so fucked up. Wait—this isn’t my shirt? I can’t believe my eyes—couldn’t rip off the tiny sweatshirt fast enough.

It was Wyatts. What the fuck, what happened? Why am I wearing his clothes and nothing else?

“Ugh! How the hell am I supposed to move on from you if you won’t let me?! What was the point of it all?! Asshole!” One punch, then three. Cracks form in the walls and I have to hold my hand back from landing the fourth blow, otherwise the wall would probably crumble.

“Sapphyra? Is it okay if I come in?” Guy called out from the hallway.

“I’m sorry, Guy. I just cannot look at you right now.”

A lingering pause twisted my guts. This situation wasn’t fair to either of us. I turned off the water and sat on the soggy cold tiled floors. A tug on my back made me get up. What the hell could I be sitting on? I looked down and saw something soft, wet and pink. It wasn’t my tail—

Holy shit, it’s my wings! I’m sitting on a wing!

I quickly stand up, tracing my back. I shiver as my index finger runs down my wing's outer membrane. They’re soft—when not wet—with baby pink feathers covering them and scales offering protection underneath. Flexing my shoulder blades, I could definitely feel their weight. It was coming back to me, like riding a bike.

“Guy…my wings came back! Can you believe it?!” I ran to the mirror, grabbing a towel to dry off on the way. No flight for now, the wings are too wet. Maybe if I air dry I’ll be good to go. Normally my body would create a barrier of heat that locks out water. We’ll get that later.

One dragon trait at a time.

“Of course I can believe it. They can back last night. It was kinda hot too.” He spoke through the door, though it was muffled.

I'm gonna have to work past this or at least push it down until he can swap back. Steeling myself, I opened up the doors, chuckling when Guy hit the floor back-first.

“Were you leaning against the door?” I smirked at him and held out a hand. He stood up, dusting himself off.

“Duh. These doors are stupid thick—” he glanced at my naked curves and blushes. “Well, not as thick as you at least.”

This was Guy's voice, his mannerisms but not his body.

“Guy, do you trust me? I wanna try something.” He couldn't hear it but I'm pretty sure my heart just jumped into my throat.

“Absolutely. What's up?” I love his energy. He's the brightest part of my life.

I took a step forward and lifted his hand, pressing it against my own. It was like that scene from that one Wasney movie in the jungle between the parent and child. His touch made me shiver and I broke away, heart racing a mile a minute.

“I’m sorry.” I mumbled. It still felt like Wyatt. Too many memories of his hands on my body and in my soul. It will take all I have just to look at him.

“Don’t be. It’s not your fault or mine…I think.” He scratched his head. “Anyway, do you remember what happened last night?”

Shaking my head no, I grab a towel and dry off. Guy respectfully looks at a point on the wall above my head as I get dressed. He might be a gentleman but I could see it in the way he pouted and had his eyelids lowered.

Guy was hurting. It might not be either of our faults but it still hurts. Fuck, at this point I would rather it be Noa’s body. While I put my top on, he explained last night.

“You were in a lot of pain, your bones shifted around a lot. Good news is: it was just your wings. Bad news: your jumpsuit was too tight for those bad boys, so you stripped.” He points at Wyatt's soggy sweatshirt on the floor. “Thats when you put that on and passed out afterwards.”

“Oh thank god.” I blushed, coughing to cover it up. Why the fuck did I say that out loud?!

“Damn.” Guy rubbed the back of his head, frowning. “Guess you’re glad you didn’t make a mistake last night.”

“No! That’s not…it’s just that you’re in his body right now so—” he held up a hand.

“I understand. I’m just messing with you. Aside from the fact that this—” he motions to his body, “must have happened while I was asleep. I wouldn’t take advantage of your body like that. I know I can be an immature asshole sometimes but I’m not like that.”

Wyatt was. God, even thinking that made my stomach drop.

“You alright? I mean, as alright as you can be—given the situation?” He took a step towards me. His hand twitched, like he wanted to touch me but thought better of it.

“I’m fine.” Not really but close enough. At least I’m not running on fumes. Nodding towards the door,  “Hey so, there might be some powder meals in the pantry’s basement. Wanna go look for a box of bland-ass pancakes?”

“Absolutely.” It was so odd seeing Wyatt smile. I know it’s just his face but still. I don’t think he’s ever looked that happy—not since we were kids at least.

This might not be as impossible as I thought it was. Still, I had to make something clear to Guy.

As we entered the kitchen and I ushered him to the basement pantry, I cleared my throat. He turned to me, one eyebrow raised in curiosity.

“Yeah?” he asked carefully.

I haven’t had this many butterflies in my belly since my wedding night.

“I love you, Guy.” His face turned red first, then mine. “It probably feels like I don’t but I do. I swear it.” Though he opened his mouth, I quickly cut him off.

“Let me finish. I love you and I want to be with you. The actual you. Not Noa’s body, not Wyatt’s. Just yours. Because believe me, my body was aching for you yesterday—still is but...”

The muscles in my jaw did something a little new. A scowl, was that the right word? I think I’m scowling.

“If I kiss you, but open my eyes and see either of them—especially Wyatt?”

“Sapph, you don’t have to explain. I know. Lovesick fool that I might be, I’m not a complete doormat either. Told you before didn’t I? There's a pull between us that can’t be denied and it ain’t all physical either.”

He held out a hand towards me, silently asking permission.

Biting my bottom lip, I had to steady my soul and remind myself it’s okay. I let him take my hand in his. When he kissed the back of my hand and winked at me, my heart fluttered.

“Are you two quite done?” A deep voice called out from above us. My pulse quickened. I put my body between the basement entrance and Guy.

“There you are!” Hyperion said, coming down the steps. “Now that you can fly, let's see how well you fall!”

Pressurized air hit me like a truck, knocking me into Guy. We both slammed into the wall.

While I tried to get my bearings, Hyperion grabbed me before I knew what was happening. The last thing I heard was Guy’s fading screams.
