Wyatt

“So explain the plan to me one more time.” Noa tilt

“Didn't I just tell you that the plan was simple? We're going to sneak into Rupert's base of operations, and determine if reya was telling the truth.”

“Right and how exactly are we going to determine what she said was true?”

I pinched the bridge in my nose.

“Noa it's not that difficult a concept to grasp.”

He scoffed, “yeah I know but I need you to hear what you're saying out loud because clearly it's not clicking with you.”

“What do you mean it's not clicking with me?”

“Okay—” he paused, turning his head slightly as if he’s listening for something. After a few seconds he continues.

“Let's reiterate what you plan to do. Go ahead and have a seat cuz I'm going to break this down for you, and I'll be sure to go extra slow considering you only have 2/3 of your brain.”

This boy was getting on my nerves. I don't care if he is my other half. I'm starting to think that the goddess put him with me just to torture me. But I would not let him or anyone else get in the way of my real plan.

I sat down on a nearby pile of rubble and I looked up at him with an inquisitive eyebrow. I flexed my wrist just waiting for him to start his paltry explanation.

Noa held up his palms and pressed them against the nearby wall.

“Pretend this is a blackboard right.”

He picked up a finger-sized piece of rock and started grinding it down on the wall, trying to use it like chalk.

“Okay pretend this big square is City Hall. Do you have some way of breaking through their defenses?”

I just smiled at him.

“I have something in mind.”

He pressed his hand against the drawing, “okay but do you have something in mind that I can see? Cuz I'm not going along with your plan if there is no plan.”

“Noa,” I crossed my arms leaning back on my rubble pile, we've been together for how many years?”

He faltered.

“I don't see how that's relevant here.”

“That's not what I asked you.”

My hands slowly sank into the dirt of the rubble pile I sat on. Something was making the hairs on the back of my neck stand on edge and I doubt it was Noa.

“I asked you how many years have we been together? Don't make me ask you again.”

Oh I definitely ruffled some feathers with that one.

Noa squints, and drops the piece of rubble in his hand.

“Nearly 134 years now, although I don't see how that's relevant.

“I will tell you how it is relevant. In those 134 years have you ever seen me not have a plan?”

He paused, “once”.

My hand reached up to adjust my glasses but when I hit empty air I was painfully reminded that he'd beaten the shit out of me, and destroyed my glasses in the process.

“If you're referring to the moment when I left Barbie at the altar, then you're half right.”

Noa rolled his eyes.

“No, of course because you always had a plan to invade an alien dimension to rescue our mate.”

I shook my head, “I had plans to invade but not to rescue Sapphyra. I had planned to go in for resources, negotiations, all of that.”

Noa's mouth twisted up in disgust.

“Ew you sound like a colonizer.” He had a point.

“No, I sound like a man who recognized the earth was on a time crunch and we needed some way to start saving lives.”

Noa cracked his neck and rolled his shoulders, putting on the same muscle head bravado that he was always known for.

“It's hard to imagine someone like you was paired up with someone like me.” I offered quietly, listening for any more signs of voyeurs. Something that sounded like a rock hit the ground a few yards away.

I didn’t want to alert Noa yet. I don’t operate without proof. I could just be paranoid but being paranoid doesn’t mean I’m wrong.

“Why because you're all brain and no brawn?”  His smirk annoyed me.

“Easy there, I can easily bench press my wife.” A fact I am so proud of.  “I would say that's a little more than no brawn.”

He barked out laughter at that, “oh you think that strength you had was yours? Please. You're welcome by the way.”

My nose wrinkled and I looked at him wondering what the hell he could mean.

“Oh? You didn't know. Yeah every time you and Sapph would get into it, that strength you had and those bruises that healed real quick? That was me. I was letting you use that power because she's my mate. She deserves pleasure without the guilt of breaking something so scrawny in two.”

How dare he insinuate that I’m fragile! It was getting harder to hold my tongue.

“I was in the gym long before I met Sapphyra.” I insisted. “And if you'll recall, I was an Olympic level gymnast.”

Bronze medal worthy, in fact.

“Yeah yeah all your fancy little flips and tucks and rolls. I was there I remember but none of that translates to being able to lift up our 350 lb wife like it's nothing. That was me. You're welcome again.”

He didn’t have to sound so smug about it.

I stood dusting myself off. Placing my hands behind my back and clasping them together I started walking away from him, done with this trivial conversation.

“And now you want to leave, that is so you.”

I didn't say anything, silence was often my most valued companion outside of my wife. As I walked, he followed. Occasionally as we walked past any reflective surfaces, I swore I could see a glimpse of someone looking at us.

“So what, are we going there now?”

Noa asked, sniffing

“No. We're going to get pizza first.”

“Oh? Cool cuz I'm hungry as fuck.”

I sighed.

“You are so exhausting. I liked it better when you were silent” .

“You mean you liked it better when you choked off my voice? Stuff me down into a box like I didn't matter? Oh yeah I haven't forgotten.”

I grit my teeth and then let my body relax.

“You act as if though that was something I was in control of until the world ended. I did not know you existed. You cannot keep holding that over my head.”

Noa's mouth curved up half smile half smirk.

“Is that right? Well, sucks for you cuz I can't blame anyone else considering mom and dad are dead. Shout out to Dante. So you'll just have to get used to it.”

Well I didn't have time for that. So I guess I better bite the bullet and let him know what's on my heart for a while. I tried to let him. My hands drop and I let out a long slow breath.

“Noa, I am sorry.”

“You? Sorry? Is this a trip, am I being punk'd?" He looked around as if a cameraman was around the corner waiting.

Asshole.

He played it off like a joke but I could see it in his eyes he never expected me to apologize for this.

“Noa, I'm sorry. If I had known about you—if I had ever stopped believing the lie that my parents fed me,” I paused for a moment, “then maybe things would have been different. Maybe I would have had you first and foremost in my life.”

I turned away from him, letting my words sit with him.

“I can't take back the past. I can only look towards the future. And that future includes you, my wife, and Guy whether I like it or not.”

I mumbled that last bit.

Despite Noa’s insistence that I’m thirsting for Guy, I’m not seeing it. Or maybe I do not want to. Either way, I barely have time to love my wife properly, let alone a second lover. Even still, and maybe Noa knew it too but…

Listening to Guy pleasuring Sapphyra did not make me angry. I can’t say what it did make me feel, not yet. All that aside, I had to look towards the future.

“But we won't have a future if we don't get my body back.”

He was quiet. Which for him was out of the ordinary. I must have struck a chord. He cleared his throat then looked around us, as if a perfectly timed distraction would appear.

“So you have a plan to break in?” he asked softly.

“I do. But I'm going to need to get a key first.”

He blinked a few times and raised an eyebrow.

“A key? I know that's a thing that used to give out the key to City Hall but I didn't think you would take that seriously.” I chuckled softly.

“They give those out to anybody. But that's not what I'm talking about.”

“Then what are you talking about?” I waved him off dismissively.

“Don't worry about it, you'll see once we get back to Beacon.”

“Beacon?”

He waited for me to elaborate further but I did not. I couldn't let Noa know it yet but I had a feeling we were being watched. At first I was thinking they were just watching Sapphyra but then we separated and that feeling never went away.

And if there's one thing my wife has taught me, it's trust your gut.

Just as Noa was about to question me further, a large explosion followed by gray smoke in the air caught our attention. I turned to Noa as my pace quickened.

One more glimpse of a reflection caught my eye. This time I saw a face but the details were murky. One problem at a time however. Creepy stalker later, explosion that could potentially fuck up my plans now.

Because the direction that explosion came from?

It came from Beacon.
