Sea Survival: My Luck is Off the Charts
Chapter 353: Why So Many Never-Ending TasksAs Faye Yardley opened the boxes one by one, the contents left her feeling very confused. ’What are these for?’
’Is a new event coming?’
Whenever players unboxed something unusual, they immediately wondered if it was related to a new event. Faye Yardley was no exception.
’The things I’ve gotten today are just too strange.’
’They really look like they’re for entertaining guests.’
’So am I going to have to host another party on my raft?’
If that was the case, Faye Yardley had no desire to participate whatsoever.
Mostly, she just didn’t want to entertain guests.
’Maybe when people reach a certain point, they just want to be alone.’
At 8:00 PM sharp, a system announcement appeared.
"Dear players, good evening. First, congratulations on successfully surviving at sea for three months. The last day of August is about to end, and September is just around the corner. To welcome the wonderful month of September, Survival at Sea will be launching a new event from September 1st to the 7th.
For the first seven days of September, from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, we will welcome the arrival of Master Gideon, the weapon manufacturing master from Planet Nocturne, along with his apprentices. They will randomly visit players’ rafts, which may trigger a special encounter.
We hope all players will have a fruitful experience during this serendipity event. We wish you all a pleasant game." The announcement repeated three times.
"A serendipity event? Speak of the devil, a new event is here just as I was thinking about it."
Faye Yardley muttered, ’Is this event really so friendly?’
’Somehow, I find that hard to believe.’
’But it does sound like a good event. At least, I can’t see any problems with it for now.’
’I’ll find out after 8:00 AM tomorrow.’
’So what if he’s a weapon manufacturing master? I already have Light Wound, a Divine Weapon. Could they really have anything better than the blade in my hand?’
’I just hope it’s a peaceful seven days.’
’The first batch of buildings should also be finished around tomorrow. It’s time to go check on the island.’
For many people, tonight was destined to be a sleepless night.
Faye Yardley, however, simply packed up all the wooden boxes, checked on the Green Egg and Bramble, and went to bed.
When she woke up, the sky was already surprisingly bright at 4:00 AM.
’With this awful weather, are Master Gideon and his apprentices out of their minds?’
’Or do weapon forgers just like high-heat environments?’
’Surely Planet Nocturne’s weapon forging isn’t still stuck in the smelting stage, is it?’
After a quick stop at the training room, she paid the system to take her back to Conch Isle.
Knowing she was coming, Wyatt Thorne and Marlin were already waiting for her together.
"Thorne, Professor Marshall, it’s good to see you. Should I hand over some supplies to Thorne first, and then go set up the lab?" Faye Yardley asked. "Have the directors for the hospital and school been chosen yet? The school can wait a bit, but for the hospital, we need a professional to decide where to place things and what equipment it needs to be paired with. I don’t know the specifics myself, so we need an expert to coordinate."
Wyatt Thorne had always admired Faye Yardley’s drive. She was incredibly capable.
"We have some candidates. You can look them over and decide then."
"Okay, I’ll give you the supplies I brought over. The new office building should be finished, so we can go check it out later. After that, you two can decide how to divide up the space."
As she spoke, Faye Yardley pulled out boxes of various supplies from her backpack and handed a checklist to Wyatt Thorne, telling him to find someone to verify the contents.
She had no intention of getting involved in the specific details of how they allocated the supplies.
Wyatt Thorne’s face lit up when he saw the 20 rubber tires. "These are great! We can use them to build carriages."
Marlin immediately chimed in, "We’ll need to get a share of those."
Faye Yardley didn’t see what there was to argue about and cut in, "I also brought some cars I picked up from Dungeon 3. They still work, but I have no idea what kind of energy they use. Once the current power source runs out, the researchers will have to figure out how to get them moving again."
Hearing there were cars, both men’s eyes lit up with excitement.
With transportation, the lab wouldn’t seem so far away anymore.
On foot, it would take them all day to get there.
"Just leave that to us. It’s only a matter of making a car run; that part’s easy."
Marlin was full of confidence as he spoke.
’If all else fails, we can just convert them to electric. The island has power, after all.’
"Excellent! Shall we drive to the lab now then?"
Faye Yardley nodded. "Of course. I can’t very well make you two walk."
On the island, she possessed some of her Island Master abilities, and even if she didn’t, she could still borrow power from Bramble.
Now that the road was built, this was the first time a car had been seen driving on it. Everyone who saw it was shocked at first, and then delighted.
’If there’s a first, there’ll be a second. This meant they might be able to drive cars again one day.’
After all, who didn’t harbor wonderful hopes for the future?
When they arrived at the lab, she was impressed. More than half of it was built into the mountainside, with a smaller portion exposed. It even had two basement levels. The exterior section was five stories tall, and there were two additional floors built into the upper part of the mountain itself.
This was also Marlin’s and Thorne’s first time inside. Water and power were already connected, and there was even a working elevator.
The interior, however, was completely empty and needed to be furnished from scratch.
Although Faye Yardley’s backpack made it convenient to unload items, she had no desire to tediously follow researchers up and down, placing one thing here, another there, and constantly making adjustments.
After a moment’s thought, she called Eleanor Jonas to ask if she could borrow a few people. She would send them an invitation to come over.
Eleanor Jonas didn’t hesitate, agreeing on the spot.
Faye Yardley then turned to Marlin. "Professor Marshall, people will be here shortly to help set up the lab, so please just wait a bit. Thorne, you and Mr. Franklin can go ahead and drive over to the hospital to wait for me."
With that, Faye Yardley produced four more cars, placing them on the open ground in front of the lab. "These four are for the lab to use."
Marlin was all smiles. "Thank you for your generosity, Island Master."
Faye Yardley spent the rest of the day bustling about the island. Even though she had delegated everything, she was surprised to find there were still countless little things that required her input.
Finally, when she arrived at the school, she received a notification: it was possible to enroll students from off-island.
This would be great news for her brother and his people, but the problem of how to get the students over here still needed some thought.
’It probably won’t be too complicated,’ she thought. The option to enroll off-island students was currently grayed out. ’Maybe I have to wait until the school is officially established and starts enrolling before it becomes active.’
Huh?
’Could there be other connections between islands?’
Faye Yardley’s brow furrowed slightly. She felt that her newly developed island wasn’t ready to be opened to the public just yet.
’A guild headquarters is different from other islands,’ she reasoned. ’I’ll set that aside for now.’
