Some people were constantly hoping to meet one of Master Gideon’s disciples, but they never saw a sign of them.
Faye Yardley hadn’t been trying to meet them, yet just after one had left, two more had shown up.
Watching the two small wooden boats approach her raft from the east and west, Faye Yardley raised an eyebrow, gaining a new appreciation for her Luck Value.
’Could this be my chance to get the achievement for meeting all of Master Gideon’s disciples?’
As the small wooden boats drew near, Faye Yardley stood up. The two vessels arrived one after the other a short distance away, and she cupped her fist in greeting to the two people aboard them.
"Would you two like to come aboard for a bit and have some dinner?"
"Sorry for the intrusion."
"Mm."
Of the two, one was a cheerful, slightly portly middle-aged man, while the other was an aloof young man with a giant sword slung across his back.
She invited them onto the shaded deck to sit. "I’m Faye Yardley," she said. "And you two are?"
"A pleasure, Ms. Yardley. You can call me Mr. Jones. This here is my junior brother, Heath Jenson. We’re accompanying our master on an ocean excursion to broaden our horizons."
After the middle-aged man spoke, the young man beside him grunted again, as if in agreement.
"A pleasure to meet you both," Faye Yardley said as she brought out a tea set. "If you don’t mind me asking, what are your ranks among Master Gideon’s disciples? I met number seventeen, Brooke, this afternoon. She was very lively and cute."
"Ahem."
"Cough!"
The two exchanged a quick glance. ’Lively and cute?’
Mr. Jones said, "So our Senior Sister has already visited. I’m number twenty, and Heath here is number twenty-eight."
"Please, have some tea."
It was hard to say if it was because Faye Yardley had mentioned Brooke’s visit and praised her as "cute," but whatever the reason, both men seemed very easy to get along with. Even the outwardly cold Heath Jenson appeared agreeable—mostly because he barely spoke, and when he did, it was just to grunt his assent to whatever Mr. Jones said.
Faye Yardley asked, "Do you two have any dietary restrictions? Brooke mentioned that seafood is rare on Planet Nocturne, which is why she’s particularly fond of it. Do you have any preferences? I should mention, though, that we mostly have seafood out here on the ocean; other things are a bit scarce."
Mr. Jones nodded with a smile. "Our Senior Sister is correct. We very rarely get to see seafood where we’re from. That’s why we were all so excited when our master brought us on this ocean trip. We’ll be in your debt, Ms. Yardley. A seafood dinner for my brother and me would be wonderful."
"Willow, please make some more delicious seafood and bring it over. No need for any sashimi."
People who don’t eat seafood often might not be able to stomach sashimi, and there was no sense in them getting sick just for the novelty of it.
Besides, getting sick on a small wooden boat in the middle of the vast ocean would be a total nightmare.
Upon hearing the unfamiliar term, Heath Jenson couldn’t contain his curiosity. "What’s sashimi?" he asked.
Faye Yardley figured words alone wouldn’t be clear enough, so she pulled a platter Willow Yardley had prepared earlier from her inventory and set it in the middle of the table. "Here, this is it. It’s all raw—the freshest, most tender and succulent cuts of meat from various kinds of seafood, completely unprocessed."
She explained her reservations again, leaving the choice entirely up to them.
Perhaps it was a matter of human curiosity and a desire to prove oneself, but the more you forbid something, the more people want to try it.
In any case, since it had been processed by the system, the food was free of contaminants and parasites, so when they decided they wanted to try it, Faye Yardley didn’t stop them.
She even brought out wasabi and other dipping sauces for them to experiment with, along with some homemade glutinous rice wine for them to drink.
After they had eaten and drunk their fill, Mr. Jones suggested they all play a little game. He clearly had no intention of making things difficult for Faye Yardley and her friends, and the game was a pleasant one.
Eamon received a hoe that was especially fast and thorough at weeding, and Cole Kensington got an Intermediate Dagger.
To Faye Yardley’s surprise, Heath Jenson gave Blackwood a small bell to wear around his neck. It wouldn’t ring when he ran around normally, only when a specific condition was triggered.
Its mysteriousness felt like it could rival that of the Exorcism Wind Chime hanging on Goliath’s head.
Of course, as the owner of the raft, Faye Yardley received a piece of refined ore, which they said she could use to forge a weapon suited for her.
Faye Yardley immediately thought of the High Level Longbow Manufacturing Plan Brooke had given her. ’The better the raw materials, the higher the quality of the longbow, right?’ It was as if her wishes were being granted the moment she had them.
After watching the two men depart in different directions, Faye Yardley got the feeling that this "chance encounter" event was really more of a "treasure delivery" event.
"Today has really been a wonderful day," Faye Yardley said, turning to the others. "You three are so lucky, each getting a great weapon."
Lucy White beamed. "You can say that again! I hope we get this lucky again tomorrow."
"Faye, you guys carry on. I’m going to go try out my new hoe," Eamon said, excitedly brandishing the tool he had just received.
Faye Yardley looked at Blackwood. "Blackwood, do you like your bell?"
MEOW~
You could tell he liked it.
’That Heath Jenson, who looked so aloof, wasn’t actually cold at all. Just as I thought, teenagers going through a phase love to put on a cool act.’
After everyone else had left, Willow Yardley brought out a freshly made iced coffee and handed it to Faye. "Sister, try this fruit-flavored iced coffee."
"Of course. Anything you make is bound to be delicious." Faye Yardley truly felt that drinking iced coffee in this weather was pure bliss. Even though it was already 7:05 PM, the temperature was still over 30 degrees Celsius.
Come to think of it, none of the three guests they’d had today seemed to find the temperature unusual at all.
After a sip of coffee, Faye Yardley said, "Willow, do you think Planet Nocturne is actually a planet with a dominant Fire Attribute? Is it possible there’s no water there at all?"
Willow Yardley smiled and shook her head. "Not quite. Planet Nocturne is a high-temperature planet, yes, but it has abundant underground water resources. A temperature like this would be considered cold weather for them."
"Oh? You actually know about it?"
"Yes, I happen to know a little."
"Then do you know anything about Master Gideon? Is he tall or short, fat or thin? Does he have an explosive temper?"
"I’m afraid I’ll have to disappoint you, Sister. That, I don’t know."
She was slightly disappointed, but it was no big deal.
While she might not have been looking to meet Master Gideon and his disciples at first, after running into three of them in one day, Faye Yardley’s attitude had completely changed.
’When it came to these walking treasure chests, the more the merrier.’
The fruit-flavored iced coffee was surprisingly delicious. Not only did the fruitiness cut the bitterness of the coffee, but it also added a lovely fragrance.
Faye Yardley downed it in one go and felt the urge to have another.
RING RING RING~
A smile broke out on Faye Yardley’s face as she saw who was calling.
