By the time Kalon reached home, the news was already speaking about him in length.

It seemed that the Dragon’s Headquarters was a heavily watched location by news reporters.

No one ever entered, and if they did, that meant there was news to tell.

The moment they saw Kalon exit, he heard photos and videos being taken of him.

They all knew of his affinity to flames, so it wasn’t hard to make a guess as to what was about to happen.

Kalon was going to become the eleventh dragon.

He would be the eleventh dragon, as the position of the first dragon had already once been taken. They would not fill that space, even though the first dragon had long since been missing.

Still, mathematically, Kalon was now the tenth member of the corporation... Or at least temporarily.

He looked over the contract offered to him.

...

Kalon read the contract again from top to bottom.

Twenty thousand pounds every month. That single number was enough to change everything about his daily life.

He would no longer have to worry about basic expenses. He would no longer have to rely on the cheap academy stipend.

He could move out of the dormitory when he wanted, buy proper equipment, and still have money left over.

For a first-year student who had started the year with almost nothing, the sum felt unreal.

The access to their training facilities mattered just as much. The training grounds under the castle was built to handle high-level flame combat.

Regular academy grounds could not compare.

With that kind of space he could finally test Ninefold Sunbreaker and all of his other skills without holding back.

Priority gear support meant flame-resistant clothing and high-rank items that most students would never touch until they turned professional.

Media protection would mean that any time someone posted a negative article about him, he would have the dragon media team to back him up.

Private medical services and diamond-rank upgrade pills were also benefits that made the whole contact worth it.

As for the requirements, they were straightforward.

He already planned to use fire in public fights.

Representing their branding was a small price.

The temporary nature of the contract didn’t matter either. They wanted to see him perform at the Duo Tournament before making anything permanent.

If he dominated the tournament, the permanent offer would almost certainly be stronger than this provisional one.

Kalon leaned back against the wall and stared at the glowing accept and decline options.

This was the best sponsorship path available to him right now.

The Ten Dragons sat near the top of the professional world, especially within the United Kingdoms.

Their name alone carried weight that smaller organisations could never match.

Even a temporary contract from them would open doors that stayed closed for almost everyone else.

He had walked into their headquarters as a first-year student and walked out with an offer that most gold-rank fighters would envy.

Jacques and the others had told him to take a full day to think before accepting.

They said the decision should not be made under the pressure of the moment.

Kalon respected that.

He closed the system screen without pressing selecting either option and let the contract settle in his mind.

He was still turning the details over when his phone vibrated against the desk.

It was a private message. It had no organisation tag. No official header. Just a short line of text from an unknown number.

「」Do not accept the Ten Dragons contract. Meet me at the City Square. Come alone. You are making a mistake.」

Kalon stared at his phone screen with great confusion.

He read the message three times. There was no name, no further explanation, and no threat beyond the simple instruction.

City Square was only a short walk from the dormitory, public enough that an ambush would be difficult, yet open enough that anyone could watch from a distance.

His confusion became stronger.

The Ten Dragons offer was great. Yet someone had gone out of their way to warn him against it within hours of the meeting.

He stood, pulled on a jacket, and slipped the phone into his pocket. The contract could wait a little longer.

Kalon left the dormitory and headed toward City Square, the warning still repeating in his head.

...

Kalon arrived at City Square and looked around.

As far as he could see, there was no one waiting for him.

There were no signs. No further message on his phone. Just the usual people walking through the plaza, busy as always.

He stood near the fountain, still confused. The warning had told him to come alone and not accept the contract, but nothing here explained why.

He was about to check his phone again when suddenly, he noticed something.

In a place where he was certain was empty before, two cloaked figures suddenly appeared from out of nowhere.

It was like they didn’t exist before, and simply became reality.

The two cloaked figures didn’t waste anytime. As soon as they arrived, they began heading towards him.

Both wore dark hooded coats that hid their faces. They moved with clear purpose and did not slow down.

Kalon’s body tensed immediately. He shifted his stance and watched them carefully as they closed the distance.

He prepared to defend himself with his full strength.
