Kalon and Josinia stood in the forest where Kalon had burned those Empire fighters to ash.
The secret entrance had been heavily blocked off, with no way to enter or exit, so it was completely secure.
There was also a pond nearby, beside which they stood. The damp shoreline had created a thick layer of mud.
Kalon looked at Josinia carefully and activated Arcane Sight.
Beneath her glossy purple skin, he saw the familiar soft currents of her existing energy, but deeper down, a dense brown light pulsed strongly.
It was an affinity for Earth.
It lay closer to the surface than any of her other dormant affinities. She was right on the verge of awakening it.
All he needed to do was guide her.
"Josinia," he said, "I can feel that you’re very close to awakening an Earth affinity. I want to help you bring it out. That’s how we’ll begin our training."
Her pink eyes lit up.
"Really? You can tell that just from looking at me... Humans really are special."
"No, this isn’t a human skill. It’s unique to me."
Before Josinia could question him further, he continued.
"Stay still for a moment."
Kalon focused inward and asked the system for guidance.
System, how can someone on the verge of awakening an Earth affinity push it over the edge?
The answer came quickly and clearly.
「Have the subject stand barefoot in natural earth or mud. Instruct them to focus on the weight and density beneath their feet. They must pull that feeling upward into their core while releasing any tension in their chest. Physical contact with a stronger Earth presence or a guiding force can accelerate the process.」
Kalon turned back to Josinia.
"Take your shoes off and stand in the mud by the pond," he told her. "Focus on the weight of the ground beneath your feet. Feel how heavy and solid it is. Then try to pull that feeling up into your body."
Josinia quickly slipped off her shoes, revealing her smooth purple feet, and stepped into the soft mud.
It squelched between her toes.
She closed her eyes and followed his instructions, her brows furrowed and her tongue poking between her lips in concentration.
Kalon watched the brown energy inside her shift and strengthen.
System, what’s the next step?
「Have them press both hands into the earth and imagine roots growing downward while the density rises through their arms and into their chest. Encourage steady breathing.」
"Press your hands into the mud," Kalon said. "Imagine roots growing down from your palms. At the same time, feel the heavy energy climbing up your arms and into your chest. Keep your breathing steady."
Josinia dropped to her knees in the mud without hesitation and pressed both hands deep into the wet earth.
Her glossy skin was soon smeared with mud.
She breathed slowly, following every word her teacher gave her.
The brown light inside her flared brighter.
She’s close... I can sense it. What are the final steps?
「Physical contact from the guide while the subject focuses on compressing the energy into a single point in their core will usually trigger the awakening if they are already this close. Only if the guide also has the affinity dormant within them.」

Kalon stepped into the mud behind her and placed both hands on her shoulders.
"Compress everything you’re feeling into the centre of your chest," he said quietly. "Don’t force it. It will naturally gather as long as you guide it."
Josinia trembled slightly beneath his hands.
The dense brown energy inside her suddenly surged upward, spun tightly, and locked into place.
A soft shockwave of earth-aspected mana rippled out from her body.
Her eyes snapped open.
"I... I can feel it," she whispered. "It’s there. It’s awake!"
Kalon smiled.
"Try using it. Once you do, a skill should awaken with it... I think."
Josinia stood up, mud covering her hands, knees, and feet. She was still dressed in her maid outfit, though it was now messy.
She stood there, focusing inward. Her eyes remained closed.
Then they shot open as though she had suddenly understood something.
She held one palm toward a nearby rock and concentrated.
The ground beneath the rock shifted.
A sharp spike of hardened earth shot upward and shattered the stone with a clean crack.
She stared at her hand in disbelief, breathing heavily and out of breath.
"That was... a C-rank Earth attack. I just awakened my first skill!"
C-rank for your first skill? Impressive.
The moment the realization fully hit her, Josinia spun around and leapt at Kalon.
Her arms wrapped tightly around his neck, and her legs hooked around his waist. The force of her jump carried them both down into the soft mud beside the pond.
"I did it!" she cried, laughing against his neck. "I actually awakened it because of you! You’re the greatest teacher ever!"
Kalon caught her easily, his hands settling on her waist as they sank slightly into the wet earth.
Josinia pulled back just enough to look at his face. Her pink eyes were bright with excitement, and perhaps something warmer as well.
Suddenly, she leaned in and kissed him.
The kiss was deep. Her glossy lips moved hungrily against his while her mud-covered hands slid into his hair.
Kalon didn’t hesitate and kissed her back, one hand gripping her through the fabric of her clothes and pulling her tighter against him.
Josinia broke the kiss only long enough to speak.
Her words were filled with seduction.
"Kalon... I’ve been thinking, and I want you to take it. My virginity. Right here. Please."
She ground her hips against him, making sure he understood how she felt.
Her cheeks were dark purple, but her eyes remained locked on his without a hint of hesitation.
"I’m ready," she whispered. "You gave me my affinity, and now I want to give myself to you. All of me."
