Kalon woke up the next morning to an agility blessing, and a notification on his social profile.

When he saw what it was, he let out a great sigh.

Sun Greatest had posted about him again, and it was causing an uproar.

「@KalonManchester is still the only so-called prodigy without a sponsor. Everyone else already has backing. Why is this?" — @SunGreatest」

The comment section filled quickly with all sorts of reactions. Most of them were agreements from her fans.

Others were people coming up with speculations as to why Kalon did not have a sponsor yet.

Almost immediately after her post, several small companies sent him private offers as well.

They were mostly low-tier sponsorship deals with cheap gear and even cheaper pay.

Without connections, organisations were unlikely to sponsor you after only one bout, even if you did show great potential in your first fight.

All they would do was keep a close eye on you.

None of the sponsorship offers were anything that he was interested in.

Still, he knew that it would be smarter to have some kind of sponsor before the upcoming tournament.

It would give him enough money so that someday he could move out of his dormitory room and purchase an actual house.

But he wasn’t going to sign a contract knowing that, in the future, a better opportunity could arise.

Kalon typed a short public reply to Sun.

「"I don’t need a sponsor right now. After I beat you and win the tournament, the real offers will come." — @KalonManchester」

He posted it and put his phone away.

...

At school, the reaction to his post was instant.

Students talked about his reply in the hallways and classrooms. Some called him arrogant, but not to his face. Others looked at him with admiration for having the balls to reply in such a manner.

Kalon tried his best to ignore it all.

He really didn’t know how to handle being in the spotlight, and he was even worse at having to trash-talk online.

...

During physical education, the class was working toward an affinity that no one had.

Or at least that’s what they believed.

The professor had set up a simple but strict test.

In the centre of the yard stood a wide circle of bare, wet earth.

Each student had to step inside and attempt to influence the ground in any way. Raise it, harden it, or shift it, using only pure control, no skills.

One by one, students tried and failed. A few managed weak tremors, such as Thea and Richard.

This let them know that the affinity might be dormant inside them, but it was no confirmation.

Richard wore a smug look on his face because of it. His sister Ruby looked at him like he was a ginger prince.

There was also Levian, the boy with a Lightning affinity. He managed to produce a slight tremble as well.

When Kalon’s name was called, the yard went quiet.

Everyone already knew he had an affinity for Fire. That was rare enough for someone their age. Especially him, who was once bullied.

He stepped into the circle without expression.

At first, he planned on hiding this affinity, the same way he was hiding his Light affinity.

But then he heard whispers in the background.

It was Richard, being egotistical and smug. He bragged to his friends about how he had made the earth react the strongest.

What was worse was the fact that his friends were praising and admiring him for it.

Just the thought of that alone was enough to irritate Kalon.

So, he focused on the earth around him.

The ground answered immediately.

A clean, solid pillar of hardened earth rose from the centre of the mud circle, nearly two metres tall. It stood perfectly stable under his control.

For a moment, no one spoke. Everyone could only stare at what had just taken place with wide eyes and hanging jaws.

"That’s Earth..."

"He already has Fire. That’s a second affinity!"

"No one our age has two. Isn’t that impossible?!"

Students stared with wide eyes.

A few stepped back as if the pillar itself was dangerous.

Phones came out immediately. Videos started recording from every angle.

This was usually prohibited by the professor, but at that moment, nothing could be done.

Even the professor looked stunned.

He walked closer, examined the pillar, then looked at Kalon like he was slightly afraid of him.

"Two affinities..." the professor muttered. "Fire and Earth. When did this happen? How did this happen?"

The class erupted with noise too loud for Kalon to respond.

Voices overlapped in disbelief and excitement.

Some students shouted questions at him, while others just kept filming.

Within minutes, the videos were already being uploaded.

By the time the period ended, the footage had spread across the internet and many students’ social profiles.

Kalon’s name was being mentioned over and over again.

The boy who had only recently shown Fire had now revealed a second core affinity in front of an entire class and a teacher.

...

The cafeteria was loud with talk as well.

Almost every table seemed to be discussing the same thing.

Students kept glancing toward Kalon as he walked in and sat down with his tray of cheap food.

The noise didn’t die down. If anything, it grew louder once people realised he was there.

Kalon ignored most of it. Afterwards, he decided to pull out his phone. It was worth checking what the internet was saying.

He checked out his latest mentions...

The first one read:

「Fire and Earth as a first-year student? This has to be fake. Advance him to Year Two already. — @Harry819」

The second:

「No one develops a second core affinity this fast. What is Kalon Manchester? — @AffinityDaily」

The third:

「Dual affinities confirmed on video. The professors looked just as shocked as the rest of us. — @CampusLeak」

Kalon stared at the screen for a few seconds.

Then he let out a quiet laugh, locked the phone, and went back to his food.
