As Kalon was finishing up his food in the cafeteria, a familiar face approached him.
It was none other than Thea Bluegale.
Everyone’s eyes were on her as she approached him.
They envied her relationship with him.
Not because everyone wanted to be friends with Kalon, but rather because they all had questions and wanted advice from him, but would never get answers because of the grudges he held against them for the past.
Kalon enjoyed being seen this way.
If they wanted to be his friend, they had to earn that friendship the same way Thea had.
When she arrived at the table, she sat down opposite him and squinted her big blue eyes at him carefully.
"Fire, Earth, and Light... that’s three affinities, Kalon."
She looked at him as though she was waiting for him to explain himself.
When he didn’t, she spoke again.
"What’s going on with you?"
Even if he told her the entire truth right there, he doubted that she would even believe him.
It sounded extremely absurd, after all.
Instead, he shrugged his shoulders.
"The world works in mysterious ways... Also, try not to talk about my affinity for Light in public. No one knows about that yet except you."
Thea brushed past that immediately.
"It’s not just your affinities. Every day you come to school looking more attractive. Yesterday, in training against my mother, you were clearly much, much faster than you were before. Everything about you is just strange."
"In a good way though, right?" Kalon replied.
Thea paused for a few moments.
She couldn’t deny that all the oddities about Kalon were positive.
Eventually, she let out a sigh and relaxed her shoulders.
"I guess."
Afterwards, she switched topics.
"My mother is going to do different training with us today. She’s brought in two low-ranking fighters from her organisation and wants us to fight against them."
Kalon paused.
"Professionals?" he asked in shock.
"Yes, weak ones. We will fight to half health. I don’t know anything about them, but I’m confident."
"How so? These are professionals that we are going up against, not your mum, who was going easy on us."
A smile started to appear on Thea’s face.
She leaned in closer.
"Because this time, she’s letting us use skills. It’s not just a hand-to-hand fight. It seems she’s managed to borrow the item used to prevent death."
That same smile suddenly spread across Kalon’s face.
Now he could see why she was so confident.
"You’ll get to use your affinities, Kalon. All three of them."
...
Later that day, Kalon arrived at the Bluegale house.
Theodora, Thea, and two strangers were already waiting in the garden. The moment he walked in, conversation stopped.
Theodora crossed her arms beneath her giant breasts, which were being restrained by a black jumper.
She looked him up and down.
"Mister Fire and Earth himself, it’s an honour to be graced with your presence. Just who are you, kid?"
A smirk spread across her face as she joked.
Thea nodded her head.
"I asked him the same thing, but I never get an answer that explains it. Perhaps he really is just a prodigy."
Kalon scratched his head nervously.
He wasn’t used to being praised so openly, especially by two beautiful women, one of whom was the top fighter of a famous organisation.
Before anything else could be said, Theodora turned and gestured to the couple beside her.
They were holding hands and clearly in love.
"These two are from my organisation. Low-ranked, but proper professionals. Derrick and Lira. Both Fire users, and both built for speed. They’re the ones you’ll be sparring today."
Derrick, the lean man with short dark hair, gave a short nod. He was wearing a black windbreaker with baggy joggers.
"We’ve seen the clips floating around today. Dual affinities that young are rare. Curious how it holds up in a real fight though, hehe."
Lira, whose brown hair was tied back, studied Kalon for a second longer. She wore a white windbreaker and black shorts that were tight around her crotch and glutes.
"Don’t expect us to go easy just because you’re students. Both of you are prodigies, after all."
Both fighters were not even in the top 100 within the True Fighters organisation, but just from the fact that they hadn’t lost their sponsors yet, Kalon knew they weren’t anything to laugh at.
After the introductions had been done, Theodora clapped her hands once.
"The rules are simple, and similar to the upcoming tournament. Teams of two. Fight until one side drops to half health for both fighters. Of course, in the tournament, you will have your full health to use...
"Skills are allowed. The death-prevention item is active, so use everything you have against each other. It has been set to immediately knock unconscious whoever’s health drops below half, and will then begin the healing process."
She pointed to the cleared stretch of garden.
"Kalon, Thea, that side. Derrick, Lira, opposite. Get ready for battle."
Kalon and Thea moved into position. Across from them, Derrick and Lira settled into light, ready stances that already showed how fast they intended to move.
Both sides seemed tense for some reason.
At first, Kalon couldn’t understand why.
Then he noticed something.
Something very peculiar...
There was a flashing light coming from Lira’s pocket. A light that suggested she was wearing some sort of camera.
Kalon couldn’t believe it... Wasn’t that against some sort of unspoken rule?
In training, particularly sparring, it was important to do it in a hidden location so that no one could figure out the secrets of their opponents before combat.
Could this Lira woman secretly have been hired by someone in the tournament trying to figure out secrets about him or Thea?
If that was the case, Kalon had to be careful not to show his full hand.
Theodora raised her hand, ready to give the signal.
No... It didn’t matter what he showed.
All he had to do was make sure that it was over fast enough for the camera not to pick anything up.
Theodora dropped her hand.
"Begin!"
