Seducing the Guideverse With My System — Raising an Anomaly [BL]
Chapter 321: _The Archons"... Them?" Ambrose found a response after what felt like an eternity. "Who are ’them’?"
Future Ambrose’s lips pursed with hesitation, making Ambrose feel like plucking off his own ears.
"Are you seriously going to leave me clueless here?" He snarled. "You once told me the Void entity was the least of my problems—which was hard to believe at first. Until I came across the Devourer in that elven dimension."
He flew closer, his expression becoming grim. "A being capable of consuming billions of lives from an entire planet. Yet I still feel that pales in comparison to whatever it is you’re telling me about now."
Future Ambrose’s face remained blank.
A sigh broke past Ambrose’s mouth. "Are they aliens? Dungeon beasts? What—"
"They," the older man finally spoke, his eyes shutting for a beat, "called themselves the ’Archons’."
In a blink, future Ambrose appeared beside him, making him jump back.
"Remember when I told you about beings existing beyond our universes?" He began. "Archons are just that. They exist beyond the multiverse itself. Capable of distorting every law of creation imaginable."
The pause that followed that terrifying description was enough to make Ambrose consider telling him to take a break.
"T-They," he stuttered. "They exist beyond the multiverse. Which includes the universe I originated from?"
"Yes." Older Ambrose didn’t waste his breath. "But they can’t exist within our multiverse for too long. Not in their true forms. Eventually the multiverse would try correcting itself, either forcing them out or speeding up its destabilisation."
"So they decided to find vessels, powerful enough to host their forms. During my timeline they started by sending just one of them." A pause. "He called himself Samael. At first he was diplomatic... until we refused his terms."
Older Ambrose’s jaw clenched. "He attacked. Brutally. Millions died before I and my version of the Pantheon were able to defeat him." A bitter smile stretched his lips. "But in the process I lost my Valentine."
Chills crawled down Ambrose’s spine at the thought of losing his timeline’s Necromancer.
And yet it appeared the older Ambrose wasn’t finished.
Far from it.
"Before we could rebuild and count our losses, another Archon arrived. Then another." He shook his head. "Each one was more cataclysmic than the last. Entire Federations crumbled and the planet spent tonnes of resources defeating them. Orion was only four when this all began."
"In the course of the next two years, more of them came. Until finally seven Archons showed up at once." His throat constricted.
"Wukong fell. Then Apollo. Then... then my Loki. When Kali remained, I knew destruction was inevitable. So I sent Orion through time, making sure to fundamentally change the past by pulling out a soul from another universe to replace mine the night that Han Jae-won nearly killed me."
Silence.
Several seconds passed after the guy finished his narration. Ambrose’s heartbeat was at a horse’s pace long after he was done.
He swallowed hard, forcing himself to steady his breathing. "Those... terms." His voice came out rougher than intended. "What exactly did Samael ask for?"
The question hung between them.
Future Ambrose didn’t answer, simply looking away.
That alone was enough to make understanding strike like a truck.
"Orion," Ambrose whispered. The hardening of the future Ambrose’s face confirmed it. "I knew it."
"No." Future Ambrose corrected quietly. "Not at first."
His gaze returned to Ambrose’s, heavy with memories no father should ever have to carry. "Their first proposal... was me."
Ambrose blinked.
"They wanted me to willingly become a vessel." Future Ambrose laughed bitterly. "To surrender my body so an Archon could exist within this universe permanently. They promised peace. They promised humanity would flourish beneath their guidance."
"And you told them to go to hell, I guess."
"I did."
Silence stretched.
"When they realised I would never agree," Future Ambrose’s expression darkened, "they shifted their attention." His voice almost failed him. "They wanted Orion instead."
Something inside Ambrose snapped.
"They believed a child born from my blood would become an even better vessel than I ever could." The older man slowly closed his fist. "A mind still developing. A soul easier to mould. An imagination powerful enough to reshape reality itself."
A knot tightened Ambrose’s stomach until he felt sick.
"So everything you’ve done..." He breathed.
"...Only bought you time." Future Ambrose finished. "Nothing more."
The words echoed throughout the endless darkness.
"The Archons won’t stop. They won’t negotiate anymore and will not retreat." His eyes carried an exhaustion deeper than time itself. "They want this multiverse, Ambrose. Every universe. Every timeline. Every possibility. They’ll tear creation apart and rebuild it into whatever they desire."
He took a slow step closer.
"And whether you like it or not... you’re the only one capable of stopping them."
Before Ambrose could respond, a violent crack exploded overhead.
The empty dimension shuddered. Jagged fractures spread across the endless darkness, white light pouring through every widening gap.
Future Ambrose looked upward and sighed. "Looks like our time is up."
"Wait!" Ambrose stepped forward. "One last thing."
Another crack split the void beneath their feet.
"How do I help Orion?" He asked desperately. "How do I teach him to control powers like that?"
Future Ambrose smiled proudly. "You already are."
Ambrose frowned. "What?"
"You’ve stopped trying to suppress who he is." The older man’s figure had already begun dissolving into fragments of light. "Now you’re teaching him to accept himself instead. You just have to keep walking that path, Benji. With patience."
Ambrose stared at him. "... Are you being for real right now?" A dry laugh escaped him despite everything. "After all this cosmic nonsense, that’s your advice?"
Future Ambrose chuckled. "You’ll understand eventually."
The entire dimension shattered. White light swallowed everything.
★★★★★
Ambrose jolted upright on the living room couch, sucking in a sharp breath.
For several seconds, all he heard was the frantic pounding of his own heart before another voice quietly broke the silence.
"Daddy?"
He looked up.
Orion stood a few feet away in oversized pyjamas, rubbing one sleepy eye while clutching his stuffed cat beneath one arm.
"What’re you doing out here?" The little boy mumbled. "It’s really late."
Ambrose simply stared.
Then, without another word, he crossed the room, scooped Orion into his arms and rested his forehead against the boy’s hair.
"Nothing, little urchin." A small smile tugged at his lips. "I was just... waiting for someone."
Orion yawned loudly, wrapping his little arms around his father’s neck. "I’m sleepy."
"I know." Ambrose adjusted him on his hip before turning toward the staircase. "C’mon."
He carried his son back upstairs.
This time... He wasn’t letting go.
