Hale-Ferguson Residence

The next morning, the first thing Ambrose’s eyes opened to was a system notification blinking over his face.

[CONGRATULATIONS: The host has broken through to the next level of an Aether Hybrid—SS-Rank!]

[The host’s overall stats have also been updated. Would you like to see?]

Rose sighed, hands intertwining on his bare chest. ’I suppose. Hit me.’

During the night he’d been unable to sleep properly. Maybe he managed an hour or slightly more of shut eye... but he couldn’t truly rest.

Not when his mind kept rushing over that brief vision he got in the snow dimension. He’d kept a calm front for his family last night, but that unfortunately didn’t get rid of the annoying fear that whatever was coming was too much for even him.

For all of them.

Ambrose heaved.

Not exactly a significant total growth compared to yesterday. But it did mean at long last... he was finally one more step away from getting to the pinnacle of Hunters in this world.

All within less than a year.

Once he put it like that, it was indeed a great achievement.

[Quit undermining yourself, jackass.] Aura chimed again. [This is beyond impressive. Gabriel, Valentine, Guild Masters Irina and Magnus, President Josiah, Han Ji-Hoon... you’re above all these SS-Ranks now. And still pretty close to reaching triple S.]

’Close?’ Ambrose scoffed. ’Last I checked, don’t I need four million EP points as an Aether Hybrid to crack through that rank?’

[... Well, yes, you still do. But—]

’You’ve got a skewed definition of the word close, Aura.’

[Forgive me for trying to hype you up.]

’For once, I think I’d miss your scolding or literally anything else.’ He was about to shift on the bed when he realised there was an arm wrapped around his waist.

A glance revealed it was none other than Viktor—the S-Rank snoring soundly on his stomach, his face angled close to his chest. His snow-white hair fell messily across his features, mouth twitching in his sleep.

Ambrose’s racing thoughts halted for a beat, a warm smile stretching his lips.

Last night every last one of his partners had played a vital role in making sure he didn’t spiral into anything darker than what he felt now.

And then there was his sweet boy Orion... wait.

’Aura, what’s Orion’s seal—’

[OrionHale-Ferguson’sSealIntegrity: 0%.]

His heart skipped a beat.

"What?!" He yelled so loud that Viktor jolted right awake, head moving around like an overstimulated cat. "Aura, what... what the fuck?"

"What? What? What’s happening?" The ice Prince mumbled, rubbing his forehead. "Ugh. I just had the weirdest dream. Someone kept arguing with me that you’ve gotten a beard and I—"

Ambrose slipped out of bed before he could finish that.

[It only dropped to zero like five minutes ago. Can you relax?]

’How the fuck can you tell me to relax?’ He brought the scolding to his mental space, heading quickly for the nearest window. ’Shit, now that it’s at zero what’s happening? Aliens? Jumanji? Another ice age?’

When he peered through the window... there was nothing out of the ordinary. Just a clear morning sky, his trimmed lawn and the relaxing sound of birds chirping.

Well, it would’ve been relaxing in any other context. Now Ambrose couldn’t help but wonder if Orion’s imagination turned them into knock-off dinosaurs.

"Little bird?" Viktor gradually got out of bed, straightening. "Is everything okay?"

"Y-Yeah, yeah..." a pause. "Actually, screw that. I don’t know, Vik." He rushed to him, placing a hasty kiss on his cheek. "I’ve got to check on Orion."

"Why? Is it that seal Integrity thing?"

"Yep."

"Did he—"

Space warped around the Guide before Viktor could ask anything else. He vanished a split second later, leaving the S-Rank standing there awkwardly.

He rubbed the back of his neck. "I guess I’ll just walk then..."

Ambrose appeared in the living room, immediately swerving to the kitchen countertop. Hopping off a stool was Orion—already wearing his back pack and dressed in the school’s uniform.

Devon and Valentine were both in the middle of walking him to the door when they all saw Ambrose gawking at them like he was witnessing a horror movie.

"Morning, Rosy." Valentine’s head tilted. "You seem quite jilted. Devon was just about to take the kid to—"

"Orion isn’t going to school today." The words came out so quickly that they cut straight through Valentine’s sentence.

Silence settled over the kitchen.

Devon blinked once, then slowly turned toward Ambrose. "Huh?"

Valentine’s brows knitted together, confusion flashing across his face before something clicked. His expression hardened almost instantly.

"No." He reached out without hesitation, drawing Orion closer until the little boy was tucked protectively against his side.

Devon caught the same implication a heartbeat later.

"The seal..." His voice lowered. "Don’t tell me—"

Ambrose nodded grimly. "It’s at zero."

Nobody spoke.

Orion only looked between the adults, not fully understanding why the atmosphere had suddenly become so heavy.

Valentine’s arm unconsciously tightened around him.

"So nothing is suppressing his abilities anymore," the Necromancer murmured, almost to himself.

"Exactly." Ambrose exhaled slowly, trying to keep his voice steady despite the anxiety clawing at his chest. "Future me never delved much into what happens after the seal breaks. Aura didn’t either. All they said was to keep him safe until this point." His jaw clenched. "And now we’re here."

Devon rubbed a hand over his face. "And we’re completely blind."

"Pretty much."

Ambrose stepped closer, crouching in front of Orion. He wanted to check if the boy felt different, if there was any fluctuation in his aura, any sign that whatever had reached for him in that white void was about to happen again.

He barely made it two steps when Spatial Awareness exploded through his senses.

Two familiar signatures stood quietly beyond the compound gate.

One carried a playful, chaotic aura that could belong to nobody else.

The other felt vast. Calm enough to make time itself seem still around her.

Ambrose’s eyes widened.

"Loki... and Kali?" He frowned. "Gods, what’s she doing here now?"
