As expected, murmurs exploded throughout the hall moments after Ambrose rose to his feet. His well-permed blonde hair, silver eyes, and muscled build underneath his black suit instantly made him stand out.

Valentine and Gabriel exchanged a glance.

A proud smile lit up Devon’s face while Viktor’s head tilted with curiosity and expectations.

What could Ambrose possibly want to add after everything Kali already said?

Meanwhile, the Council speaker’s mouth parted with surprise.

She remembered Hunter Ambrose Hale all too well.

Months ago, during the Echo Rift incident, Valentine Lockwood had picked him out as one of the Hunters who’d go into the Rift and find a way to close it from the inside.

Back then she’d gotten a lot of backlash for following the Necromancer’s idea. Many called Ambrose a joke. Dead weight. A distraction to a mission of global importance.

Yet... here he was.

A newly reawakened SS-Rank Esper standing with an imposing aura that easily surpassed seasoned veterans in his rank.

She didn’t know when the faintest smile curved the corner of her lips. "Very well, Hunter Ambrose. Please step onto the centre podium."

Ambrose moved, each step exuding pure confidence. Once he got to the podium, he tapped the mic a couple times before his gaze swept across the hall.

"Good afternoon, prestigious ladies and gentlemen of the Hunter community." He began, voice even and easily carrying around every corner of the hall. "Many of you should already be acquainted with who I am. Thanks to the... plethora of videos, news reports and memes of me flying around the media in the past couple of days."

Although the ghost of a smirk crossed his face, no one shared in his humour.

’You’ve got this, champ.’ Loki whispered through their link.

Straightening his posture, he went on fluidly.

"What many of you aren’t aware of is that over the past few months leading to my reawakening, I’ve encountered things that make me aware of the current state of the cosmos. The multiverse."

Josiah frowned from his seat. "Multiverse?" He asked loud enough for all to hear.

Another voice added. "That’s a mere theory. Barely a hypothesis bred by sci-fi literature, in fact."

"Well, it isn’t," Ambrose deadpanned, not even paying attention to either of them. "The multiverse is real. And this ’bleeding’ Kali mentioned isn’t just affecting our world or our single universe. It’s a widespread problem across countless realities. Hundreds of thousands of universes and alternate timelines are converging. The Emergence was merely the beginning of a decay that probably started millennia ago."

Someone from the Nigerian delegates spoke up. "Correct me if I’m wrong—but you seem to speak of Hunter Kali so informally. Why’s that?"

Ambrose paused, his eyes briefly flitting to all six of the Pantheon booths.

Of course, he couldn’t reveal that he and Earth’s most powerful Hunters have communicated more than once for months now. Or that he was partnered up with one.

So—

"I found a way to reach out to them recently." He lied through his teeth, expression remaining plain. "I’ve had months to connect the dots. Ever since I got lost in that... dungeon wasteland with the Void Entity."

A few gasps spread through the hall.

"Pardon." A French woman raised her hand. "So the rumours are correct? During the Void Entity’s mysterious defeat, did you end up getting lost for a week or so?"

Another person followed. "Did you encounter anything unique in this dungeon world?"

"Did it lead to your reawakening?"

"Does this mean you were involved in the Void Entity’s defeat?"

As more questions continued to get flung his way, all Ambrose could do was rub his forehead.

Typical.

All he’d revealed were partial truths about what happened to him, and they were already foaming in the mouths. What if he told them everything else?

"Hunters, please," Council Speaker Aileen’s voice boomed, bringing instant silence. "Let’s get to his point before drowning him with questions."

A few more seconds passed before Ambrose let out a breath.

"As interesting as all your questions are," his eyes landed on Josiah briefly, "they’re irrelevant. Time is of the essence, and I believe the Pantheon’s proposition on allying ourselves with intelligent races is a smart one."

"Back when I was a Guide at Steel Falcon—a B-Rank Guild in Aurelia City—my team and I found ourselves in a dungeon where the Orc King within could communicate via what we’d call ’magic’. My companion, Hunter Viktor, reports something similar from the Veyr, and so do the survivors of the Purple Rift with the elves."

His fists tightened on the podium.

"They may look different from us—but they are still people. Not beasts. Not ’aliens’. But actual civilisations facing similar hardships that we do now. So what’s wrong with reaching out to any we can find to strike an alliance?"

His eyes moved to Josiah yet again.

He noticed the way his jaw ticked.

’Unclench your ass, old man.’ His head swerved to the Council Speaker. "That’s all I have to input. I believe Hunter Kali has more... details she hasn’t let out of the bag. So if you’ll excuse me."

Ambrose trailed back to his seat among the United States delegates. Proud eyes fixed on him, including Magnus and Irina.

"Good job, boy," Irina patted his arm when he squeezed past her to get to his seat.

In her booth, Kali couldn’t help but look down at Ambrose, impressed.

He didn’t say much yet managed to get everyone considering the idea of speaking to other races. Perhaps there was hope in this meeting becoming fruitful after all.

Her lips parted to continue speaking—when she sensed it.

A great disturbance in the sea of time, so powerful that it struck her psyche like a hammer. A bead of crimson trickled down her left nostril, her throat constricting as several scattered images flashed past her eyes.

"Hunter Kali?" The Council Speaker called. "The floor remains yours."

Every other member of the Pantheon turned their heads to her booth when she still didn’t speak. Even Ambrose was forced to throw his head back, brows furrowing.

’Why is she—’

[Ambrose!]

Aura’s voice slid into his head, alongside a couple of holographic screens flickering to life before him.

’Aura?’ His heart hooked in his throat. ’W-what is it? Is Orion okay?’

[I tried holding off the system notifications in case they prove distracting.] She continued, further adding to his anxiety. [We’ve got a BIG ASS problem.]
