Seeing Crime Scenes in My Sleep

Chapter 189 - 185: The Shining Red Star

Wu Ming turned around and got her gear from the car. She found a spot, planted some incense, and began the soul-summoning ritual.

Jiang Li watched from beside the car. A few seconds passed, but there was no change in the surroundings.

"Could it be the wrong spot?" Jiang Li watched Wu Ming’s back. ’In the dream, it seemed like they were deep in the mountains, not on the edge.’

Wu Ming mumbled some incantations. A few minutes later, she walked over to Jiang Li. "I’ve asked around. They said there’s a big guy inside. It must be what’s blocking the way."

As she spoke, Wu Ming pulled more gear from the trunk. She was eager to see just how big this thing was!

Jiang Li quickly followed her.

Wu Ming walked while staring at the Compass in her hand. Jiang Li followed behind, scanning their surroundings as she walked.

When Wu Ming reached a certain spot, the Compass in her hand began to spin wildly. The next second, Jiang Li grabbed her hand.

Wu Ming jumped in fright and looked back at her. "Jiang Li, what’s wrong?"

Jiang Li held onto Wu Ming, standing still as if she were in a dream.

"No need to search anymore. This is the place."

Jiang Li looked around. It was cold—a bone-chilling kind of cold.

"CAW—CAW—"

Jiang Li’s eyes flickered as she looked toward the sound. It was that crow again.

’It always shows up at such opportune times.’

Wu Ming spread out a yellow cloth, took the items from her bag and arranged them, setting out offerings and candles. She lit the incense and, holding a talisman, began to chant.

Jiang Li felt a weight on her shoulder. The crow had actually landed right on it. She turned her head to meet its ruby-like eyes.

A RUSTLING sound came from the surrounding woods. The wind grew stronger, momentarily blinding them.

She saw over a hundred people appear all around them, so shocked that she forgot to breathe.

They were comrades dressed in blue, the five-pointed stars on their caps shining with particular brilliance.

"Go... home..."

Jiang Li’s mouth opened, and she spoke with a trembling voice, "Okay. We’ll go home. We’ll go home."

After Jiang Li spoke, the surrounding wind softened.

Hearing Jiang Li muttering to herself, Wu Ming rushed to her side. "Jiang Li, what are you seeing now?"

"I see our heroes. There are over a hundred of them. They say... they want to go home."

Upon hearing this, Wu Ming dropped to her knees with a THUD, clasping her hands together. "This junior spoke without thinking. Please forgive me, seniors. Please forgive me."

After speaking, Wu Ming kowtowed three times, then took out a handful of incense and gave it to Jiang Li.

"Jiang Li, you plant them. I can’t see them."

"Oh, okay." Jiang Li hurriedly took the incense from Wu Ming.

Once she had them, Wu Ming lit them with a piece of talisman paper. "I didn’t bring enough incense. I’m afraid we’ll have to trouble you seniors for now."

Jiang Li went forward to plant the incense while Wu Ming burned joss paper in a safe area. Wu Ming even ran back to the car to grab all the joss paper they had and burn it.

With every stick of incense Jiang Li planted, she received a salute. Some of them had hands lost to explosions, others legs. The bandages on their bodies were caked with blood and mud.

Among them were even a dozen children, only eleven or twelve years old. Jiang Li dug through her pockets. Thankfully, she had a habit of carrying candy. She unwrapped a piece and placed it beside them.

The heavy smell of smoke and fire filled the air. Stray ghosts and wandering spirits from the surroundings were drawn over, but none dared to step forward and snatch the offerings. The wind howled all around.

After planting all the incense, Jiang Li looked back at Wu Ming. "Wu Ming, what’s the next step?"

"Something’s not right. It seems like something around here is suppressing them, preventing them from leaving."

As she spoke, Wu Ming started searching the area.

Jiang Li thought of something and pointed to the crow perched in the tree. "Let it search. It’s fast and requires no brainpower."

Only then did Wu Ming notice the crow she had seen several times before. "Whoa, it’s you again! Okay, help us look, and afterward, I’ll have Jiang Li bring you some tasty treats."

Jiang Li sighed and face-palmed. Looking at the heroes who were still waiting nearby, she took out her phone’s notepad and began recording their names and addresses one by one.

Wu Ming followed the crow, searching high and low for a while until the crow finally stopped at a certain spot.

Wu Ming crossed her arms in confusion. ’Don’t tell me I have to dig here? But I didn’t bring a shovel.’

’With over a hundred heroes... I’d better call for backup.’

Wu Ming took out her phone and called Cheng Xiangyu. It rang for a long time before the call was finally answered.

"Hello, this is..."

"It’s Wu Ming. I need your help right now. Get here quick."

After speaking, Wu Ming added him on WeChat to send her location. Then, looking at the busy Jiang Li beside her, she sent another message to Cheng Xiangyu, telling him to buy more joss paper and some shovels.

Cheng Xiangyu looked at the location and messages from Wu Ming. A remote, wild location... and she wanted him to buy joss paper.

’What are those two up to now?’

Despite his confusion, Cheng Xiangyu obediently bought a whole carload of supplies and headed in their direction.

When he arrived, he saw the low-speed electric vehicle parked by the roadside. He stopped, got out of his car for a look, and was about to make a call when Wu Ming’s voice made him jump.

"Hey, over here!"

"Didn’t you two go back? It’s the middle of the night, and it’s not safe for two young women to be out in the middle of nowhere."

"Alright, alright, spare me the lecture. Quick, help me move this stuff!"

After speaking, Wu Ming glanced at him. "If I didn’t see you as a good person, I wouldn’t be giving you this blessing, hmph!"

Cheng Xiangyu’s mouth twitched. In his line of work, they were all atheists. They might observe such things, but they never believed in them.

The two of them carried the items and walked deeper in.

Cheng Xiangyu pressed his lips together. He wasn’t sure if it was because he was carrying joss paper, but the deeper they went, the creepier it felt.

"Let me tell you, you’d better be respectful later. They’re all great heroes. If you offend the seniors, I’ll curse you with a voodoo doll!"

Cheng Xiangyu: "..."

After they walked in, Cheng Xiangyu saw Jiang Li holding her phone and speaking to the empty air: "Little friend, what’s your name? Do you remember where you’re from?"

"Little brother, what’s your name? Where are you from?"

Cheng Xiangyu froze on the spot. Looking closely, he saw over a hundred sticks of incense planted in the ground.

Combined with what Wu Ming had said on the way, he felt his beliefs starting to waver.

"Don’t just stand there gawking. Start digging. If we drag this out, it’ll be dawn soon," Wu Ming urged Cheng Xiangyu, who was standing beside her.

At that moment, Cheng Xiangyu was like a puppet on a string, doing whatever he was told.

After she finished taking notes, Jiang Li walked over to watch the two of them dig.

The next second, a box was exposed. "Quick, quick, lift it out!"

Cheng Xiangyu stepped forward and lifted out the box, which was completely wrapped in talisman paper, and set it aside. His brow was furrowed tightly and didn’t relax in the slightest.

Wu Ming clearly felt that the surrounding aura was off. Jiang Li’s perception was even more pronounced; she could see the anger appearing on the spirits’ faces.

"This must be it. Once we take care of this, everyone will definitely be able to go home."

Wu Ming took a deep breath and opened the box. The next second, a ball of black qi shot out, rushing straight for Jiang Li.

Jiang Li looked at the thing and saw a crowd of ugly, vicious faces within it.

"Jiang Li, watch out!" Wu Ming grabbed her sword and charged forward. ’These bastards are less than human, using these invaders to suppress our heroes.’

’Just watch me obliterate their souls!’

Jiang Li was forced to retreat again and again. Just as she was about to fall, a loud cry rang out.

"CAW—CAW!"

Immediately after, something new appeared in Jiang Li’s hand.
