Seeing Crime Scenes in My Sleep

Chapter 203 - 199: This Freaky Bunch

"Anno, where’s the watch I bought you?"

The sinister tone made Shi Anno tremble all over. She cringed and said, "I-I don’t know."

Seeing this, Shi Xingchao understood everything.

"You ungrateful little brat! I worked my ass off raising you for over a decade, and this is how you repay me?!"

A venomous look filled Shi Xingchao’s eyes. He had been holding on to some semblance of father-daughter affection, but now it seemed she couldn’t be spared.

Just as Shi Xingchao was about to cross, a sharp, twisting pain suddenly erupted in his chest, and he bent over, instantly dropping to his knees.

"Boss, Boss, what’s wrong?" one of his men beside him exclaimed, startled, and quickly helped support him.

Shi Xingchao was in so much pain that sweat beaded on his forehead, as if something was gnawing at his heart.

"This is bad, Boss! They’ve caught up!"

Shi Xingchao glanced back. Yu Huannian and his group had already caught up. He looked at the borderline just five steps away, but he couldn’t muster an ounce of strength.

"Don’t come any closer! One more step and I’ll kill him!"

Seeing the situation, one of the men quickly pulled out a knife and held it to Zhao Shuo’s neck.

Lu Xingye looked at Zhao Shuo, who was beaten beyond recognition, and clenched his fists. ’These bastards.’

Miao Anji took a step forward.

"You—what are you doing? Believe it or not... AHH!"

The man’s knife instantly clattered to the ground. He cried out in pain and clutched his hand. Seeing his chance, Yu Huannian rushed forward, kicked the man away, and hauled Zhao Shuo over his shoulder.

Another man tried to make a move, but Lu Xingye drew his gun to provide cover.

Shi Xingchao gritted his teeth and crawled forward. ’Dammit, why are the reinforcements taking so long?’

Lu Xingye saw Shi Xingchao trying to escape and fired a shot at him.

BANG!

Lu Xingye stared in shock at Shi Anno, who had been pulled in front of her father as a human shield.

"Cough, cough cough cough, Dad... Daddy..."

Shi Anno watched Shi Xingchao, who never once looked back, and curled up in pain.

Lu Xingye watched Shi Xingchao run off and gritted his teeth in fury. ’Shi Xingchao is worse than an animal, not even sparing his own daughter.’

Looking at Shi Anno on the ground, he stepped forward and picked her up.

"I’m... I’m sorry... I, I didn’t know, didn’t know..." Shi Anno couldn’t finish her sentence before she stopped breathing.

"Hey, hey, hey!" The arriving Zhou Tiancheng saw Miao Anji about to rush forward and quickly grabbed him.

"Xiao Ji, don’t chase him! That’s their territory over there."

Miao Anji watched Shi Xingchao’s retreating back, a vicious glint flashing in his eyes. ’He hurt my Sister, and he thinks he can just walk away?’

Miao Anji took out his Bone Flute, and a melodious, winding tune began to play.

"Urk, AHH!" The few men on the ground who had been afflicted by the Gu screamed, writhing in pain and rolling on the ground as blood began to pour from their seven orifices.

Lu Xingye had someone rush Zhao Shuo to the hospital, then turned back to watch the scene in shock.

Shi Xingchao, who had run across the border, suddenly froze. Like a walking corpse, he turned around and started walking back toward them.

Zhou Tiancheng took a step forward, only to be stopped in his tracks by the look in Miao Anji’s eyes.

"He... is mine," Miao Anji said before turning and leading his people away.

Zhou Tiancheng looked at the route they were taking. ’I’ll have to report this to the higher-ups when I get back. We need to increase patrols and add an electric fence.’

Luoyang watched Miao Anji just take the man away. He turned to Zhou Tiancheng, his face serious. "Zhou Tiancheng, are you really just going to let him take someone like that?"

Zhou Tiancheng snapped out of his shock and looked at Luoyang. "If you’ve got the guts, you go stop him. It’s not like he won’t bring him back eventually."

After speaking, Zhou Tiancheng headed down the mountain, wondering about Zhao Shuo’s current condition.

"Is there no discipline anymore?!" Luoyang exclaimed, looking at Zhou Tiancheng’s nonchalant attitude.

"Captain Luo, well... um, if he doesn’t bring him back by tomorrow, we can just file a complaint against Zhou Tiancheng."

Luoyang’s colleague next to him looked at him.

"Do you have too much free time? Get back to helping!" Luoyang shot him a glare. ’Do I look like an idiot?’

’That flute music from before was like some kind of mind control. If I tried to report that, they’d send me to a psychiatric hospital.’

’This whole group is just plain sinister.’

Luoyang turned to handle other matters. It wasn’t like he was idle, especially with such a major incident.

「At four in the morning, Jiang Li woke up.」 She sat up; the itchiness in her hand had made it hard to sleep soundly.

Seeing Wu Ming sleeping soundly beside her, she got up, wanting to go out for a drink of water.

She had just come out when she heard the sound of a car outside.

’Who went out this late at night?’

Jiang Li slowly looked toward the door. Yu Huannian and Miao Anji were returning from outside. The moment they opened the door and saw Jiang Li in the living room, they froze.

The two of them darted their eyes around, looking everywhere but at her.

"Xiao Nian, Xiao Ji, where were you two so late at night?"

Jiang Li turned on the main lights and saw Shi Xingchao behind them. Her mouth fell open in surprise.

’How many days have I been asleep?’

"Sister, I brought him to you. How do you want to deal with him?" Miao Anji changed the subject.

Jiang Li looked at Shi Xingchao and had Miao Anji move him to the sofa.

"Xiao Ji, do you have any Gu Worms that can make people tell the truth?"

Miao Anji looked at Jiang Li and shook his head. "Nope, Sister."

Compared to the truth, he much preferred insincere lies.

Miao Anji propped his chin on his hand and looked at Jiang Li. ’Will Sister be like all the others?’

’Pretending to like me on the surface, but actually just afraid and forced to curry favor.’

Miao Anji’s eyes flickered, and he pushed the thought from his mind, not wanting to dwell on it.

’Even if it’s fake, it’s still pretty good.’

"Oh, okay. I’ll go get something, then."

With that, Jiang Li went back to her room and retrieved an aromatherapy burner and a pocket watch.

"Why is everyone awake so late?" Wu Ming emerged, rubbing her eyes and yawning, and sleepily leaned against the wall.

Jiang Li looked at Shi Xingchao and began to hypnotize him.

Once he was under, she asked, "Shi Xingchao, besides you, who else wants Jiang Li dead?"

"Kun Sha. He’s the one who gave us Jiang Li’s matching information."

’Kun Sha?’ A completely unfamiliar name.

"Why does he want me dead? And who are the people you mentioned?"

"I don’t know. I’m only responsible for the ’goods’. The buyers’ information is all anonymous."

Jiang Li pursed her lips. ’So Kun Sha provided my information, had Wu Jianzhang target me, and then I was to be... dismantled for those people.’

’Looks like I’ll have to ask about this at the bureau.’

"Besides you, are there any other heads in the country?"

Shi Xingchao obediently gave three names.

Jiang Li committed the information to memory and asked no more questions.

Looking at Shi Xingchao on the sofa, she said, "Xiao Nian, Xiao Ji, you two go get some rest. I’ll call the bureau and have them come over."

Yu Huannian and Miao Anji got up and went back to their rooms. They were actually afraid Jiang Li was going to chew them out.

Ji Qinghe received the call and came over personally with her team.

"Jiang Li, I’m taking him now. You get some rest. I’ll come see you again after this is all over."

Jiang Li nodded and handed her the list of names.

Ji Qinghe glanced at it and understood instantly. "Get some rest. Don’t overthink it. Leave the rest to us."

"Okay."

Jiang Li saw Ji Qinghe off, returned to her room, and wrote a new name on a sticky note: Kun Sha.

When it was time to get her bandages changed, Jiang Li went to the hospital and only then learned about Zhao Shuo’s condition. He had been injected with a drug, his legs were injured, and he needed surgery.

If his recovery didn’t go well, his career would be over.
