Seeing Crime Scenes in My Sleep

Chapter 207 - 203: Uninvited Guests

Jiang Li smiled helplessly at Miao Anji, who was winking and making faces beside her.

"Sister, I’m telling the truth," Miao Anji said. Seeing that Jiang Li didn’t believe him, he was determined to show her what he could do.

As Jiang Li watched the insects crawling out from everywhere, her mouth twitched. ’Just how many of these things does he have...?’

Jiang Li then sat on the sofa and had no choice but to watch as Miao Anji showed off his skills.

"Sister, what did you think?" Miao Anji asked, putting away his Bone Flute and looking at her with eyes full of anticipation.

Faced with Miao Anji’s expectant, starry eyes, Jiang Li quickly began to applaud.

"Brilliant! Absolutely brilliant!"

Miao Anji raised a smug eyebrow. ’He knew it. In his sister’s eyes, he was the most incredible one of all.’

"Then I’ll perform for you every day, Sister."

Jiang Li’s expression froze. ’Sure, it’s novel the first time you see it, but every day...’

The smile vanished from Miao Anji’s lips, and he looked at her with a wronged expression. "If you don’t like it, Sister, then just forget it."

Jiang Li quickly waved her hands. "No, no, that’s not it."

"Then that means you agree!"

Miao Anji straightened up happily. ’He’d have to go back and work harder to make sure his sister saw new tricks every day.’

Jiang Li sighed and put her head in her hand.

That night, after Jiang Li fell fast asleep, she once again dreamed of the villa from before. This time, however, all the dolls were gone.

Five men and two women were inside, timidly exploring with flashlights, though they didn’t seem to know what they were looking for.

"This place looks so creepy, it’s covered in moss. Don’t tell me that stuff is real?"

"No way. You’re just scaring yourself."

The girl shivered, hiding behind one of the boys.

"Wen Ruo, Song Wei, you two are such cowards. If you ask me, this place is actually pretty well-preserved, almost like someone’s been living here."

Feng Dong’s cousin, Feng Chao, looked around. While some parts of the villa were a mess, it gave him the feeling of organized chaos.

"Are you crazy, Feng Chao? This place is in the middle of nowhere. It’s more likely a ghost lives here," Song Wei said, which only made her more scared.

Ding Shikai swept his flashlight around. It really did look different from other abandoned places.

"Tch, what a bunch of wimps," another boy, Liao Peng, sneered at the group.

As he spoke, Liao Peng glanced at Wen Ruo and stepped forward. "Don’t worry, Wen Ruo. I’ll protect you."

Wen Ruo frowned and edged away from him.

"Ooh, Ruoruo, what’s the meaning of this? Are you saying you’re too good for Liao Peng?" Song Wei said sarcastically, crossing her arms.

Wen Ruo’s face was pale, but she forced herself to look calm as she held out her hand to Song Wei.

"Song Wei, you told me to come, and I’m here. Now give me back my things!"

She’d never been able to watch horror movies, even as a kid. This kind of thing terrified her.

She and Song Wei were roommates. Song Wei often went on these "adventures" with others, but for some reason, she’d set her sights on Wen Ruo this time.

Song Wei had taken something her late mother had left her and said she would only give it back if Wen Ruo came along.

Wen Ruo pressed her lips together, feeling the air grow even colder. A chill ran down her spine.

"What’s the rush, Ruoruo? We had a deal. Just spend three days in here, and I’ll give it back to you afterward."

"Song Wei, don’t push it!" Wen Ruo clenched her fists.

Listening to their exchange, Feng Chao frowned in confusion. ’Didn’t Song Wei say that Wen Ruo had shamelessly insisted on coming?’ Now, it didn’t sound like that was the case at all.

"Hey, it’s fine! There are a lot of us here. It’s getting late, let’s just find a place to get through the first night."

Liao Peng quickly stepped in to smooth things over, exchanging a look with Song Wei.

Feng Chao and Ding Shikai exchanged a glance, then warned Liao Peng, "Liao Peng, drop whatever you’re thinking."

They were all dorm mates and had seen Liao Peng staring at a picture of Wen Ruo before. Now, it looked like this was all a setup.

"What kind of person do you take me for?" Liao Peng said, then shot a look at the other two men—the helpers he’d brought along.

"Wen Ruo, if you need anything, just call for us," Feng Chao said to her, still uneasy. He took out his phone and glanced at it. No signal.

Wen Ruo moved a little closer to Feng Chao and Ding Shikai.

Listening to their conversation, Jiang Li had more or less figured out what was going on. She watched as the group found a room to settle in for the night.

WHOOSH... WHOOOOSH...

A gale suddenly began to rage outside. The rickety window rattled violently before falling from its frame, making a huge sound as it hit the floor.

CRASH!

"Ahh!" Wen Ruo shrieked in terror, and everyone’s heart began to race along with hers.

"It’s okay, it’s okay! It’s just the wind picking up," Feng Chao said quickly.

The noise had startled Song Wei for a moment, too. Once she recovered, she glared at Wen Ruo.

"It’s just the wind. What are you making such a fuss about?" ’Why didn’t that scare you to death!’ she thought.

In the darkness, Song Wei rolled her eyes.

Wen Ruo covered her mouth, her body trembling uncontrollably.

"Hey now, don’t be scared. And Song Wei, honestly. Not everyone is as carefree as you," Liao Peng said, stepping forward to wrap his arms around Wen Ruo and "comfort" her.

Wen Ruo quickly dodged his outstretched arm. "I-I’m fine now." Then she clutched her clothes and shrank into a corner.

From the shadows, Jiang Li watched this scene unfold. The knife in her hand glinted coldly as her gaze wandered over the group, finally settling on Wen Ruo, Feng Chao, and Ding Shikai.

’They’re not bad looking. Young and full of life... They’ll make perfect dolls for me.’

In the middle of the night, long after the others had fallen asleep, Song Wei’s eyes opened. She and Liao Peng then left the room, one after the other.

She stood by a second-floor window, watching the sordid scene unfold below.

"Liao Peng, what’s so great about Wen Ruo anyway? Was all this trouble really necessary?"

"Hmph, what do you know? Girls like Wen Ruo... they look so clean and pure."

Song Wei was instantly displeased. Liao Peng was the wildest of them all and generous with his money, but she’d never expected him to fall for someone like Wen Ruo.

"You just stick to the plan. Don’t mess it up, or you’ll be sorry!"

Liao Peng warned, pulling up his pants and giving Song Wei a sharp look.

Knowing what Liao Peng was capable of, Song Wei quickly changed the subject.

"But Feng Chao and Ding Shikai are both here. And I heard Feng Chao’s cousin works for the police. Are you sure we’ll be okay doing this?"

Song Wei was still scared deep down; after all, this was her first time doing something like this.

Liao Peng snorted. "Why else do you think I chose this place?"

’In a place this dangerous, what’s so strange about a few people dying?’

Liao Peng handed a small packet to Song Wei. "Tomorrow, put this hallucinogen in their drinking water."

’When that happens, Wen Ruo will have no choice but to come crying and throwing herself into my arms.’

"Heh."

The soft laugh sounded exceptionally out of place.

Song Wei froze solid. A chill shot up from the soles of her feet, and she didn’t dare even turn her head.

She grabbed Liao Peng’s arm. "Liao Peng, did you hear that? A laugh... a woman’s laugh."

"You’re talking nonsense!"

With that, Liao Peng turned and headed back inside, his mind already filled with images of Wen Ruo throwing herself into his arms for protection. The very thought made him incredibly excited.

"No, don’t come any closer! Ahh!"
