Seeing Crime Scenes in My Sleep

Chapter 208 - 204: Welcome, My Guests

Song Wei woke with a scream, her back drenched in a cold sweat. She pushed herself up and looked around.

She had just dreamt that a gory, mangled woman was lunging at her in this very villa.

Its gaping, bloody mouth had nearly clamped down on her.

Song Wei gasped for breath in lingering fear, patting her chest to calm herself. ’It’s just a dream,’ she thought, trying to reassure herself. ’How can there be ghosts in this world?’

Having psyched herself up, she closed her eyes to go back to sleep. As her consciousness drifted into a haze, a blood-drenched woman suddenly appeared before her eyes again.

"AH!"

Song Wei was jolted awake again. Now she was wide awake. Terrified, she nudged Liao Peng, who was beside her.

"Get lost. Don’t bother me," Liao Peng snapped, slapping her hand away before rolling over and continuing to snore.

WHOOSH— A bone-chilling wind swept in, carrying the rustling sound of leaves.

Terrified, Song Wei grabbed the nearby flashlight and switched it on. In the next second, her pupils contracted in shock, and she let out a piercing scream.

"AHHHH! A GHOST! THERE’S A GHOST!!!"

The others were instantly jolted awake.

Roused from his sleep, Liao Peng flew into a rage and backhanded Song Wei.

"It’s the middle of the night! What are you screaming your head off for?!"

Song Wei was too terrified to even feel the sting on her face. She pointed a trembling finger at the opposite wall, her mouth agape, unable to utter a single word.

Feng Chao picked up the dropped flashlight and aimed its beam. Large, bloody words had appeared on the wall.

Welcome, my guests.

Below it was a smiley face, the blood trickling down. The air grew even colder.

A trembling Wen Ruo grabbed Ding Shikai’s hand.

Feng Chao’s eyes flew wide. They had arrived at dusk, when the sky had not yet fully darkened, and they had checked this room.

Back then, this wall had been completely bare.

Liao Peng stared at the words and rubbed his eyes. ’Did that bitch Song Wei slip me a hallucinogen to protect me or something?’

’No, that’s impossible. I haven’t drunk anything.’

Feng Chao was the first to snap out of it. He stood up and walked to the wall. The blood on it was still wet.

He sniffed. "I think... it’s real!"

"Then-then let’s get out of here!" Wen Ruo scrambled to her feet.

Liao Peng turned to the quiet Ding Shikai and pointed a finger at him. "Ding Shikai, are you behind this?"

Ding Shikai frowned. "You’re imagining things. I have no interest in such games."

"Bullshit! It must be because you saw me hitting on Wen Ruo and you’re pissed off," Liao Peng said, striding aggressively toward Ding Shikai.

There was another reason he’d had Song Wei do whatever it took to get Wen Ruo to come: their resident genius had a secret crush on her.

He had only discovered this by chance.

"Alright, both of you, stop fighting," Feng Chao interjected. "There’s something strange about this place."

Feng Chao walked to the window and looked down. Below was a thicket of thorns.

"Let’s see if we can get out of here."

Hearing this, Wen Ruo eagerly got up, ran to the main door they had entered through, and pulled on it.

The door, which had been wide open during the day, was now locked tight.

"I-I can’t open it," Wen Ruo said, turning back to them with a quavering voice.

Feng Chao frowned, stepped forward, and tried it himself. It really wouldn’t budge. He then kicked it a few times. This door wasn’t made of ordinary iron.

Liao Peng watched their efforts, then shoved Feng Chao aside. "Weakling. Move."

He stepped up and yanked the handle. The door didn’t move an inch.

A house abandoned for this long shouldn’t be this sturdy.

Panic began to set in for Liao Peng.

"Damn it, I don’t believe this! You two, get over here! With all of us, you’re telling me we can’t open one stupid door?"

The guys he had brought along came forward to help. The group pushed and slammed against the door, but all they managed to do was leave a few marks on its surface.

CLANG...

The chair fell from Liao Peng’s hand, clattering to the floor. The entire villa fell silent, the only sound being their own breathing.

This wasn’t how he thought things would go.

"Impossible... Impossible... How can there be ghosts? It’s fake. This has to be fake."

"Maybe the lock is just rusted shut. Let’s look for another way out. There are plenty of crappy windows in this place; there’s no way we’re trapped."

"Right! Search! Let’s start looking now!" Liao Peng snapped back to his senses.

The group split up, using their flashlights to search the villa.

When they reached the second floor, they made a horrifying discovery: apart from the main door and the one window they had looked out of, there were no other exits.

The other windows they could see were covered in thick vines and moss, sealed shut.

Jiang Li watched the group as they rummaged through the villa. Axe in hand, she slowly approached.

"AH!"

A bloodcurdling scream echoed through the villa, making everyone’s hearts pound with fear.

Feng Chao grabbed his flashlight and ran to the second floor. All he found was another flashlight lying in the hallway, its beam illuminating a long smear of blood.

"I-I think that was Song Wei... Wh-what do we do now? Feng Chao, Ding Shikai, I don’t want to die here," Wen Ruo cried.

Wen Ruo looked fearfully at the two men.

Feng Chao gripped his flashlight tightly. Even though his older cousin was on the force, this was the first time he had ever encountered anything like this.

"It’s okay. If there’s no exit, we’ll just smash one open. The sun will be up soon. We’ll be able to see better, and that... thing... is bound to stay hidden then."

Ding Shikai nodded. "We should stop running around. And we can’t let anyone get separated."

The remaining group huddled together, waiting for dawn.

"Heh..."

Jiang Li woke with a soft laugh, rubbing her own smiling face. She grabbed the phone beside her and called Lu Xingye.

"Hello, Lu Xingye? That haunted house... there’s something wrong. Someone’s already been killed inside. Get Cheng Xiangyu and his team over there, fast!

"Feng Chao, Song Wei, Wen Ruo, and Ding Shikai are there, plus two other guys..."

As Jiang Li finished speaking, her eyes widened in realization. "And Xiao Nian and Wu Ming went too!"

Lu Xingye listened on the phone while contacting Cheng Xiangyu’s team.

"Okay, I got it. Don’t you worry," Lu Xingye said, afraid she would rush over there herself.

At that moment, Cheng Xiangyu and Feng Dong were in the mountains, where they had just happened to run into Wu Ming and her group.

"Huh?" Wu Ming said, spotting the two familiar faces.

Feng Dong’s eyes lit up. "Miss Wu! What are you doing here? Is Miss Jiang with you?"

Wu Ming frowned. "What’s with that look on your face? Don’t tell me you’ve got a crush on my Jiang Li."

The moment Wu Ming spoke, Feng Dong felt a wave of killing intent coming from the person beside her.

"No, no! I was just asking, that’s all!" Feng Dong quickly denied it. He was just desperate for the job.

Cheng Xiangyu looked at the person beside Wu Ming. He remembered him from Jiang Li’s video call.

Wu Ming was about to say something else, but the phone in her pocket started ringing.

"Speak of the devil," she muttered, answering the call. "Hey, Jiang Li, what’s up? Can’t stand being away from me for half a day?"

"Wu Ming, there’s a murderer at the haunted house! You have to be careful! The people who went there are trapped inside. You need to contact Officer Cheng and his guys and have them go with you."

Jiang Li’s urgent voice was loud enough for everyone to hear.

Feng Dong’s heart sank. "Oh no! My cousin!"

Hearing the voices in the background, Jiang Li asked, "You’re... with them?"

"Just a coincidence. I get it, don’t worry. Your hand is injured, so you just stay home and rest."
