Feng Dong stared blankly for two seconds after hearing Wu Ming’s words. It was only when Cheng Xiangyu, who was beside him, nudged him that he finally snapped out of it.
Feng Dong quickly told her his cousin’s birth date and time.
Wu Ming pinched her fingers, performing a quick calculation. Holding the Compass in her hand, she thought, ’If only I’d known, I would have brought Miao Anji along.’
’He’s a bit faster, and besides, I really hate doing divination. My calculations are hit-or-miss.’
Yu Huannian looked at Wu Ming’s face, which was scrunched up in a frown. "What are you afraid of?"
Like a cat whose tail had been stepped on, Wu Ming instantly shot him a glare. "What do you know? Isn’t there anything you’re afraid of?"
Hearing this, Yu Huannian immediately shut his mouth. He was terrified of Jiang Li dying.
After listening, Cheng Xiangyu picked up his phone and called the bureau, asking them to have the tech department run a search.
The results came back surprisingly fast. A photo of a mountain villa was sent over.
It wasn’t sent from their own tech department, but it all amounted to the same thing.
[Thanks.]
Cheng Xiangyu replied with a ’thank you’ and looked at the route they had sent. It was still quite a distance from their current location.
"This way. Let’s go," Cheng Xiangyu said, looking at the others behind him.
Back at home, Jiang Li was glued to her phone, desperate for news from the others, when a call came from Wu Ming.
"Jiang Li, don’t worry. We already know the location and we’re heading there now. You and Miao Anji just stay home and wait for our good news."
Wu Ming was panting as she walked. If she didn’t check in with Jiang Li, she was afraid the latter would drag her injured body over.
"Okay, I understand. You all be careful. She’s a lunatic."
Jiang Li added, unable to shake her worry.
"It’s fine. There are a lot of us, and besides, Xiao Nian is so capable, he’ll definitely protect me. The signal’s getting bad, I have to go."
Jiang Li stared at the disconnected call, her thoughts turning to last night’s dream. She wondered how they were doing now.
"Sister, what are you spacing out about?"
Miao Anji called out, seeing Jiang Li staring silently at her phone.
"Ah, it’s nothing. I was just thinking." Jiang Li propped her chin on her hand. ’If only I could fall asleep right now.’
’But I just woke up, how could I possibly fall asleep again?’
’Sleeping pills?’ The thought appeared only to be immediately dismissed.
"Xiao Ji, can Gu Worms make people sleep?"
Miao Anji looked at her. "Gu Worms can’t, but I can lull you to sleep, Sister."
Miao Anji’s eyes sparkled as he looked at her.
Jiang Li hesitated for a few seconds, then lay down on the sofa, tilting her head to look at him. "Alright, begin your performance."
Miao Anji happily patted his chest. "Don’t worry, Sister! I’ll definitely make sure you have a comfortable sleep."
’This is great! Sister needs me! I’m more useful than Wu Ming and Yu Huannian!’
Jiang Li watched as Miao Anji took out his Bone Flute and began to play. The melody was beautiful, and as she listened, a wave of drowsiness washed over her.
"What do we do? Liao Peng and his two buddies are gone too. Are we really going to die here?"
Jiang Li opened her eyes to another dim, shadowy perspective.
Ahead of her, a fragile Wen Ruo was clutching Ding Shikai’s hand, sobbing uncontrollably.
Ding Shikai’s arm hovered behind her, restrained and hesitant. After a few seconds, he finally gave her back a gentle pat.
"It’s okay. We won’t let anything happen to you."
Feng Chao watched the two of them embrace, the corner of his mouth twitching. He then spoke to Wen Ruo.
"By the way, Wen Ruo, you said you were threatened into coming here by Song Wei. How exactly did she threaten you?"
When Ding Shikai heard Feng Chao’s question, he also turned to look at Wen Ruo.
’He was curious, too. If Wen Ruo was so afraid of these things, why did she agree to come?’
Wen Ruo wiped the tears from her face, a hint of hatred in her eyes. "Song Wei hid the only memento my mother left me.
She said if I agreed to come here and stay for three days, she would tell me where it was."
Feng Chao looked at Wen Ruo. "Taking something without asking is stealing. In a situation like that, you could have just called the police."
Wen Ruo froze for a moment, then shook her head timidly. "I... I didn’t dare. Besides, it’s such a minor thing, the police might not have done anything."
Feng Chao opened his mouth, but in the end, said nothing. He stood up and looked around.
’There were only three of them left now. His cousin had called him for the address earlier. Maybe if they could just hold on a little longer, they could definitely get out.’
"I told my cousin I’d send him the address when I got here, but I never did. If he can’t get in touch with me, he’ll definitely come looking for us."
Ding Shikai breathed a sigh of relief when he heard this. At least there was still hope.
"But this place is just too bizarre. If Song Wei and the others are dead, why can’t we find any bodies?"
Ding Shikai looked at Feng Chao. "So many people have vanished in an instant. We only hear a scream, and then they’re gone. We haven’t even seen a shadow of them since."
Feng Chao sat back down, lost in thought as he listened to Ding Shikai.
"Liao Peng organized this whole event," Feng Chao began. "He definitely came here with a belly full of bad intentions.
But judging from Liao Peng’s reaction yesterday, it seemed like he had no idea about any of this either."
After speaking, Feng Chao looked at Ding Shikai. "Do you believe in ghosts?"
Ding Shikai suddenly chuckled. "Whether ghosts exist or not, I don’t think what’s here is a ghost. I think it’s a person.
The reason Liao Peng chose this place was because he heard that people who come here end up mysteriously disappearing.
He thought it sounded like a challenge."
Ding Shikai paused. On their first day here, Liao Peng’s goal had been obvious—he was clearly after Wen Ruo.
Judging from the things Liao Peng had let slip out of fear yesterday, he’d probably planned to make a move on him as well.
’He just never expected to be the first one to trip up himself.’
Jiang Li hid in the shadows, watching their every move.
CLANG.
The sound of something heavy hitting the floor rang out, and the three of them shot to their feet like startled birds.
Feng Chao reacted instantly and ran toward the spot where Jiang Li was hiding.
Jiang Li pressed herself sideways against the wall, tightening her grip on the object in her hand. She had knocked the other thing over on purpose, precisely to lure someone over.
Watching Feng Chao draw closer and closer, a sinister smile touched her lips as a thought bubbled up in her mind.
’Once I take care of them, I can begin my real work.’
A thrill of excitement shot through her at the thought of what she was about to do.
Feng Chao got halfway there and suddenly stopped, cautiously eyeing the pitch-black area.
The position of the vase on the floor didn’t look like it had fallen. It looked more like it had been thrown down.
Feng Chao snatched up a nearby vase and crept cautiously along the wall. He was going to see just who was playing ghosts!
Ding Shikai shielded Wen Ruo behind him and slowly followed Feng Chao’s steps.
Reaching the corner, Feng Chao abruptly raised the vase in his hand and charged in. Just as he was about to strike, he saw the person inside and his eyes widened in astonishment.
