I hadn’t even managed to call the police.
With bloodshot eyes, my mom rushed over and slapped the phone from my hand.
Seeing the panic, anger, and avoidance in her eyes, I questioned her, my own eyes red.
"Mom, why would you do this to me?! Why?!"
My mom ran over and threw her arms around me. "Luo Luo, I’m sorry, I’m so sorry. Mom didn’t have a choice.
You know your Uncle Qin and I are so close to making it official.
I... Jiajia said she didn’t want you to be in the spotlight on your graduation day.
It’s alright, Luo Luo. Mom already deleted it."
She held her phone up to my face.
I closed my eyes in despair. ’So many people have already seen it. What’s the use of deleting it now?’
My mom is forty years old. Last year, on a dating website, she met Qin Zhen—a golden bachelor, divorced with a child, and owner of a publicly traded company.
My mom fell head over heels, and Qin Zhen seemed interested in her, too.
The only problem was that Qin Zhen’s daughter, Qin Jiajia, was dead set against it, preventing my mother from marrying him.
I never thought that she would go so far as to post my nudes online just to get on Qin Jiajia’s good side.
I was about to say something when my mom suddenly grabbed me, her expression frantic, and pulled me to my feet.
"Luo Luo, something’s happened! Come with me, quickly!"
"Mom, what is it? What’s wrong?"
She pulled me so hard I stumbled, nearly falling over.
But it was as if she didn’t even notice. Her grip was surprisingly strong.
"Doctor! Doctor! My daughter has type A blood!"
"Mom, what are you doing?!" I yelled, wrenching my arm from her grasp.
My mind was still reeling from the day’s events, unable to process what was happening.
She looked at me anxiously. "Luo Luo, Jiajia was in a car accident. She needs a blood transfusion."
My mind went blank. I stared at my mother as if she were a complete stranger.
’It was bad enough that she felt no guilt about this morning, but now she was actually trying to force me to give blood to Qin Jiajia?’
"Why should I give her my blood?!"
I roared, my eyes bloodshot, and tried to drag my exhausted body away.
My heart felt like it was being sliced apart. ’Is this really my mother?’
"Luo Luo, as her sister, you shouldn’t be so unreasonable."
My mom came forward and grabbed me.
"I’m not her sister! Let go!" I struggled against her grip. "Mom, you know I have low blood sugar."
I tried to appeal to my mother’s conscience.
Before all this, she knew I had low blood sugar and would always thoughtfully put some candy in my bag for me.
Besides, I hadn’t eaten anything all day.
Her brow furrowed with conflict. Just when I thought she might finally give up...
...she grabbed my hand again. "It’s fine. It’ll just be a little."
And just like that, my mother forcibly pinned my arm down.
"Mom!"
I cried out in despair, watching helplessly as the large needle slid into my vein.
"Mom... I can’t..."
My vision started to go black, but all I could hear was my mother’s dismissive voice.
"Just hang in there a little longer, Luo Luo. It’s almost over."
When I woke up again, I stared at the ceiling, my heart a hollow pit of despair.
My mother pushed the door open and came in. Seeing my state, she approached me, a guilty look on her face.
"Luo Luo, I’m so sorry. Can you just bear with it a little longer, please?
As soon as I marry into the family, our good life will begin."
I closed my eyes, not wanting to acknowledge her. My head was still spinning.
But she didn’t see it that way. Her voice suddenly sharpened.
"Qi Luoluo, what’s that supposed to mean? Are you blaming me?
Who do you think I’m doing all this for?
It’s all so you can have a better life!
If it wasn’t for you, do you think your father would have divorced me?"
Hearing her accusations, I let out a cold laugh in my mind.
It was the same old story. One day in middle school, I came home and stumbled upon my dad with his other, younger daughter.
I told my mom what I saw. They had a massive fight, and soon after, they got divorced.
My mother always blamed me for it. She believed that if I hadn’t seen anything, my father wouldn’t have insisted on divorcing her for his mistress.
But I later found out that my mother had known all along that my father was having an affair.
I had just been the one to burst the bubble.
I looked at my mother and said earnestly, "Mom, if Qin Zhen really liked you, he wouldn’t let Qin Jiajia’s opinion matter so much."
I had barely finished speaking when a pampered, arrogant voice cut in from the doorway.
"Well, well, what’s all this? And here I was, thinking about how I could put in a good word for you with my dad."
Qin Jiajia stood in the doorway, dressed in a hospital gown with her arms crossed, looking utterly imperious.
The sullen expression on my mother’s face instantly vanished, replaced by a forced smile.
She walked happily toward Qin Jiajia, a fawning smile plastered on her face.
"Jiajia, why aren’t you resting? What are you doing here?"
I averted my eyes from the sight. Ever since meeting Qin Zhen, my mother had become a completely different person.
She was relentlessly focused on fawning over the Qin father and daughter duo.
Qin Jiajia shot me a triumphant glance before turning a disdainful gaze on my mother.
