Wu Yonghui looked embarrassed at Du Kang’s words. "Housekeeper Du..."
Du Kang snorted coldly and had someone shut the door. ’What kind of riffraff thinks they’re worthy of asking my Young Master for help?’
Wu Yonghui stared at the closed door, pacing anxiously. The master he found twenty-four years ago had already passed away. He heard that before his death, he had only taken one apprentice: Luo Jingheng.
Tongtong’s twenty-fourth birthday was coming up soon. If he couldn’t find another person for the fate-swap, his daughter would die!
"Mr. Wu, have you encountered some trouble? To be honest, this humble Taoist can resolve the doubts in your heart."
Wu Yonghui turned to look at the old Taoist master who had appeared behind him, his expression a mixture of doubt and hope.
"Do you really have a solution?"
The old Taoist, Li Tianming, stroked his beard. "But of course. My ancestors were exclusive retainers to the Imperial Family."
Wu Yonghui glanced at the tightly shut door. Realizing his time was running out, he gritted his teeth.
’Oh well,’ he thought. ’It’s a long shot, but I’ll take what I can get.’
After bringing the man home, Wu Yonghui took out Wu Tong’s Eight Characters of Birth Time and handed them over.
Li Tianming pinched his fingers together to perform a calculation, then looked at Wu Yonghui in confusion. "Hiss... Mr. Wu, do you have another close relative?"
Wu Yonghui frowned. "I only have one daugh—"
He trailed off as a sudden thought struck him, momentarily unsure of how to begin.
"To tell you the truth, Tongtong has a twin sister. It’s just... the master back then said we could only save one."
That child died long ago. I buried her myself in secret."
"Her Eight Characters of Birth Time."
Wu Yonghui didn’t understand, but he recited the child’s Eight Characters of Birth Time anyway.
"This is wrong, all wrong." Li Tianming stared at the hexagrams, muttering that it was wrong.
A chill ran down Wu Yonghui’s spine. "What’s wrong?"
"This child isn’t dead."
Wu Yonghui’s mind went blank. "No, that’s impossible. When I buried her, I was certain she was dead. She wasn’t even breathing.
How could she possibly still be alive?"
’Besides, twenty-four years have passed. Even if she were alive, it would be impossible to find her now.’
"My calculations show she is nearby. If the fate-swap is performed with a close relative, the effect will be much greater."
"But her fate was already swapped once back then. Won’t this affect Tongtong?
She worked so hard to become a police officer and her career is just taking off. I don’t want her to be affected by this."
Li Tianming lowered his head to calculate again, then looked up in delight. "As long as she is alive, it can be done.
Mr. Wu, it seems even the heavens are on your side. This other child of yours is nearby right now!"
Wu Yonghui grabbed his hands, overwhelmed with excitement. "Master, Master Li, there’s no time to lose! I’m begging you, please save my daughter."
’Anyone who can save his daughter is a true master.’
A smile played on Li Tianming’s lips. He looked at him. "Mr. Wu, this is no easy task."
"After it’s done, I’ll give you whatever you ask for!"
Li Tianming smiled in satisfaction. He had definitely found the right person. "Very well. There’s no time to lose. I’ll take you to find her right now."
"Good, good, very good." Wu Yonghui snatched up his jacket and followed Li Tianming out the door.
...
"No, don’t! Let me out."
Jiang Li’s eyes snapped open at the sound of the nightmare-fueled pleas. She sat up in bed and turned to look at Wu Ming, who was having a nightmare beside her.
She switched on the bedside lamp and saw the cold sweat on Wu Ming’s face.
"Wu—"
"Yes, this is the place."
Jiang Li froze, her hand hovering over Wu Ming. She narrowed her eyes and listened quietly to the commotion at the door.
"KNOCK, KNOCK KNOCK!"
As the knocking sounded, Jiang Li got up and went to open the door. Her gaze flickered as she saw Wu Yonghui standing outside, recalling what Wu Ming had said during the day.
"Mr. Wu. Can I help you?"
Wu Yonghui stared at Jiang Li in shock. He’d heard she was an orphan. ’Could it be? Was she the child from all those years ago?’
’But how on earth did she survive?’
Hearing Wu Ming’s murmuring behind her, Jiang Li stepped out and closed the door.
Wu Yonghui stared blankly at Jiang Li. Over the past two days, he had heard many rumors about her from Wu Tong.
And between the lines, Wu Tong’s words were filled with admiration for her.
It seemed Jiang Li had deep connections with the police departments in several other cities.
"Jiang... Jiang Li... you... I... I’m your biological father."
Wu Yonghui had hesitated for two seconds before deciding to lay his cards on the table. He hoped to make Jiang Li give herself up willingly.
That way, when Jiang Li fell gravely ill and passed away, no one would grow suspicious.
"Pfft!"
Jiang Li couldn’t help but let out a laugh when she heard this. ’Looks like these two are here for Wu Ming.’
’So he’s Wu Ming’s father?’
Jiang Li looked at the man next to Wu Yonghui. His inverted-triangle eyes radiated a sinister energy.
"Sorry, I’m an orphan. But you are definitely not my biological father."
Jiang Li glanced at the two of them, then took out her phone to call the hotel front desk. "If you can’t guarantee your guests’ safety, I have no problem calling the police."
Hearing that Jiang Li was about to call the police, Wu Yonghui had no choice but to leave with Li Tianming.
’Now that we’ve found the person, the rest is just a matter of time.’
Watching them leave, Jiang Li wondered what Wu Yonghui was really up to.
The next day, as Jiang Li was about to leave with her friends, she went downstairs and saw Wu Yonghui, his wife, and Wu Tong waiting at the hotel entrance.
Wu Tong’s eyes lit up when she saw Jiang Li. Her father had told her this morning that Jiang Li was her biological sister.
Her idol was now her family. She never would have dreamed of this in a million years.
Wu Ming looked at Wu Yonghui’s family and clutched Jiang Li’s arm warily.
Jiang Li patted her hand reassuringly and walked past the three of them with a blank expression.
"Jiang Li, I... I really am your father."
Wu Ming and Yu Huannian instantly whipped their heads around to look at Jiang Li.
"Impossible!" Wu Ming yanked Jiang Li behind her.
"Mr. Wu, as I said, I’m not. We have things to do, so we’ll be leaving."
Jiang Li started to lead Wu Ming toward their car.
Wu Yonghui panicked. ’If she leaves now, won’t my plans become much more difficult?’
"Jiang Li, I know you won’t believe anything I say, but... you can give me a little time. Let me prove it..."
Jiang Li plucked a strand of her own hair. "Mr. Wu, you’re welcome."
With that, Jiang Li got into the car with Wu Ming. "To the airport, please."
"Jiang Li, don’t believe him! He looks nothing like you. There’s no way that man is your biological father."
Wu Ming gripped Jiang Li’s hand nervously. She couldn’t put her finger on it, but the man gave her a bad feeling. He absolutely could not be Jiang Li’s father.
"Yeah, I know. Let’s just get out of here first."
Once on the plane, Jiang Li could finally relax. She looked over at Wu Ming, who was watching a drama with her headphones on, and thought about Wu Yonghui’s family.
’He couldn’t find her for over twenty years, and now he suddenly rushes up to claim a daughter with no proof whatsoever.’
’Thinking about last night... so Wu Yonghui only knew the location of his biological daughter, but not who she was?’
Jiang Li had a sudden realization. ’That man with Wu Yonghui must be a practitioner of some kind.’
’Instead of going to the police, he sought out a fortune-teller. Wu Ming has something Wu Yonghui wants.’
’Two daughters. One is doted on and pampered, while the other was left for dead, ignored, and forgotten.’
「H City.」
"Young Master, Wu Yonghui went to find Miss Jiang and the others. Miss Jiang’s flight was at nine this morning. She has already left."
Luo Jingheng sat in the courtyard, looking out. "Wu Yonghui went looking for Jiang Li?"
He recalled the man coming to see him just yesterday. ’Don’t tell me Wu Yonghui thinks Jiang Li is his biological daughter?’
"Yes. As Miss Jiang was leaving, she gave Wu Yonghui a strand of hair. He’s at the hospital now."
