Seeing Crime Scenes in My Sleep

Chapter 227 - 221: The Brat in the Elevator

Wu Ming looked at him with admiration. "You’re pretty talented to be able to tell... Wait!"

Wu Ming suddenly realized what he meant and shot to her feet in shock. ’Life extension? Someone extended my life.’

If she was perfectly healthy, why would she need her life extended? Under what circumstances would someone need that?

"Mr. Luo, is Wu Yonghui trying to kill me?"

Luo Jingheng just smiled and said nothing more.

Jiang Li stood up and nervously grabbed Wu Ming’s hand. "Since we know Wu Yonghui’s objective, let’s not go."

Wu Ming’s eyes were red, tears welling up. She wiped them away and looked at Jiang Li with determination. "I have to go. My master used to say that some things can’t be avoided. Instead of hiding, it’s better to take a stand and fight!"

Wu Ming suddenly thought of the policewoman she had met, Wu Tong. A daughter who was clearly cherished. Wu Yonghui was a good father, so why did he want her life?

"No, I should still go with you. There’s safety in numbers." Hearing this, Jiang Li felt even more worried.

Luo Jingheng silently watched them go back and forth, a flicker of curiosity in his heart. ’What kind of feeling is this?’

Du Kang returned with his men, carrying groceries.

Yu Huannian got up and walked to the kitchen. He glanced at the ingredients and started to prepare them. After a while, a fragrant aroma drifted out.

Smelling it, Du Kang couldn’t help but swallow. ’I really want to try some.’

Luo Jingheng opened his eyes and glanced toward the kitchen, then noticed Miao Anji squatting by a potted plant in the corner. His expression froze for a moment.

’What is he doing?’

Miao Anji flicked a bug off his hand.

"Go on, get out of here. No more room. I don’t want you."

’I already brought back so many from H City. If I bring any more back, the place will become an insect nest.’

"Do you need some insect repellent?"

Miao Anji glanced back at him. "No." He then walked over to sit next to Jiang Li, tilting his head as he spoke with her.

Du Kang looked at everyone in the room. Seeing Luo Jingheng’s gaze constantly on them, he felt a little happy himself.

Yu Huannian brought the dishes to the table. "Time to eat."

Du Kang stepped forward and took a look. The food was all light, but it smelled delicious. He served Luo Jingheng half a bowl of rice.

Yu Huannian placed the soup in front of Jiang Li, then sat down and began to eat.

Du Kang held his bowl, keeping an eye on Luo Jingheng out of the corner of his eye.

"How is it?" Jiang Li asked, looking at Luo Jingheng.

Luo Jingheng swallowed the food in his mouth and nodded. "It’s delicious."

"Then eat some more." After saying that, Jiang Li lowered her head and dug into her food.

Luo Jingheng watched them eat quickly, as if afraid there wouldn’t be enough. They had a silent, tacit understanding—it was all about grabbing the food.

"Hurry up and eat. Wu Ming and Xiao Ji will finish it all in a minute."

Seeing him hesitate, Jiang Li quickly picked up some food with her chopsticks and put it in his bowl.

’If he keeps dawdling, they’ll snatch up all the dishes.’

Luo Jingheng nodded, withdrew his gaze, and focused on his food. Before he knew it, the half-bowl of rice was gone.

Du Kang saw the soup was almost gone, so he quickly got up, ladled the last bowl, and placed it in front of Luo Jingheng.

’I remember buying quite a lot of groceries, though.’

Luo Jingheng put down his bowl and chopsticks and slowly, methodically drank the soup. It was savory and delicious.

After the meal, Miao Anji and Wu Ming cleaned up together.

Du Kang stood up, walked outside, and silently wiped away a tear. He took out his phone and called the old master.

"Old Master, the Young Master ate half a bowl of rice, a lot of the other dishes, and drank a whole bowl of soup! This Miss Jiang is an absolute lifesaver!"

On the other end, Luo Heng shot to his feet in shock. Luo Jingheng had been a picky eater since he was a child, sometimes even needing an IV drip for nutrition. Later on, he would vomit after just a couple of bites. And now he’d eaten half a bowl of rice.

"Who’s the cook? No matter the cost..."

"Ahem, Old Master, that’s Miss Jiang’s brother. From what I can tell, he only listens to Miss Jiang."

Luo Heng was silent for two seconds. "Alright, I understand. Send me her contact information."

Du Kang hung up and walked back. When he returned, Jiang Li and the others were already gone from the hospital room.

Luo Jingheng looked over with his cool, indifferent gaze. "What did he say this time?"

"The Old Master was very happy to hear you ate. He didn’t say anything else."

Luo Jingheng raised an eyebrow in surprise. ’He didn’t threaten anyone? That’s a rare occasion.’

"Young Master, for your sake, I’ll definitely build a good relationship with Miss Jiang and her friends so they’ll come visit you every day."

Luo Jingheng’s mouth twitched. "You talk too much. I’m going out for a walk to digest."

"Of course." Du Kang quickly stepped aside.

Luo Jingheng walked outside by himself and sat down in the garden downstairs.

Jiang Li returned to her own hospital room and lay down.

In her dream, she was in an elevator. The old lift emitted a low HUMMING sound that made one’s heart pound with anxiety.

The next second, with a CLANG, the elevator stopped. The doors slowly slid open, revealing a pitch-black space filled with overturned tables and chairs.

"Where is this? Why would a place like this be in our residential complex!"

A frightened voice sounded from behind her.

"I’ve lived here for twenty years and I’ve never seen this..."

Someone started pressing the emergency button, while others took out their phones to call the police.

"There’s no signal!"

The next second, with a LOUD RATTLE, the entire elevator shuddered and dropped a level. Screams erupted all around.

Her body was overcome by a feeling of weightlessness, and she leaned uncomfortably against the wall.

"No, no, I don’t want to die here! Who knows what else is down there."

One of the men shoved her aside and started trying to climb up and out.

Just as the man had climbed halfway out, she glanced over with sudden curiosity and began frantically mashing the elevator buttons.

"Hey, what are you doing? Are you crazy?!"

An adult next to her gave her a shove.

"Whose damn brat is this? Don’t you watch your kid!"

She turned and threw herself into an old woman’s arms. "I... I was just scared! Why are you all yelling at me!"

"You’re all grown-ups, why are you picking on a child? Have you no shame?" The old woman protecting her launched into a verbal battle.

Her eyes remained fixed on the elevator buttons. Suddenly, seizing the opportunity, she lunged forward and pressed them twice more.

CLANG!

The elevator plunged down again. A warm liquid splattered across her face. Her pupils contracted in terror, and she quickly scrambled into a corner.

"I saw it! It was her! She’s the one who pressed it just now!"

A pregnant woman in the corner pointed a trembling finger at her.

"Go on, what nonsense are you spouting? How could my grandkid do something like that? It’s obviously because this elevator is old and broken. Why are you blaming my precious grandkid!"

The old woman glanced at the woman’s swollen belly. "Hah, young lady, you’re pregnant too. You should try to accumulate some good karma for the child in your womb!"

"What nonsense are you talking about, you old hag."

"Grandma, why is she saying that about me? I didn’t do it. Grandma, I’m scared." She pulled the old woman’s hand, her voice full of grievance, but in the darkness, her eyes glinted with triumph.

Then, her sinister gaze fell upon the woman’s swollen belly.

"Grandma, Grandma, do you think the baby in this bad woman’s belly will be a little sister or a little brother?"
