Seeing Crime Scenes in My Sleep

Chapter 235 - 229: Pestering Ghost

Wu Ming lifted her head in agony. Before she could make out her surroundings, the first thing she saw was Jiang Li outside.

"Jiang Li, why are you here?"

"The time has come!" Li Tianming announced before walking to the table to begin the ritual.

The wind suddenly picked up, and the flames forced Jiang Li back just as she was about to move forward.

Wu Ming stared at Wu Yonghui. "Wu Yonghui, you said I was your bane. Heh... HAHAHAHA! Then why haven’t I jinxed you to death? Why aren’t you dead? Why don’t you just go and die!"

Wu Ming cursed him viciously, "Why aren’t you dead? Just die already!"

Wu Yonghui shuddered for a moment, then suppressed the strange feeling in his heart. "Wu Ming, this is your fate. You’ve lived for twenty-four years. You should be content.

Don’t you worry. After you die, I’ll visit your grave and..."

"Ah, AHHH!"

Before Wu Yonghui could finish, a sharp pain seized his chest. It felt as if ants were devouring him from the inside, and he collapsed, writhing on the ground in agony.

Jiang Li took out the flute Miao Anji had made for her and began to play. A sinister wind gusted so fiercely she could barely open her eyes, and wails of sorrow mingled with its howling.

"Damn it, what are you doing?!"

Drenched in a cold sweat from the pain, terror began to flood Wu Yonghui’s eyes.

"Let Wu Ming go!"

Jiang Li demanded again, her throat dry and raw. It felt as if it were being scraped by razor blades.

Wu Yonghui bit down hard on his lower lip. "No. Impossible. Tongtong is a police officer now. Murder... you pay for murder with your life.

She won’t let you get away with this."

Hearing Wu Yonghui’s words, the pain in Wu Ming’s heart eased. ’I have my master, I have Jiang Li and the others. They won’t abandon me.’

"Dad!"

The sound of Wu Tong’s crying voice reached Wu Yonghui’s ears on the wind. For a moment, he even forgot his pain as he turned his head in shock.

Wu Tong stood at the entrance, staring at Wu Yonghui on the ground. His face was pale and his body trembled in pain.

Nearby, Wu Ming was trapped in the fire. The scene unfolding before Wu Tong’s eyes confirmed it: everything Jiang Li and the others had said was true.

Her beloved father was willing to disregard a human life for her sake.

Wu Tong was so distraught she could hardly breathe. How could she ever face herself in her uniform again?

In that moment, her oath of office had become a complete joke.

"Tong... Tongtong, why are you here?"

"Dad, why? Just why?!" Wu Tong rushed forward, grabbing him as she broke down completely.

"I’m doing this for you! If I don’t, you’re going to die!"

Wu Tong burst into tears. ’If this is the price, I’d rather just die.’

Jiang Li watched as Wu Ming, trapped in the inferno, began to lose consciousness. Beside her, Li Tianming was still muttering his incantation and waving his horsetail whisk.

A sudden rage flared within her. Without a second thought, she charged in and snatched the horsetail whisk from Li Tianming’s hands.

SNAP!

She snapped it in two.

"PFT!" The ritual was broken. Li Tianming coughed up a mouthful of blood, but his eyes were fixed on Wu Ming with manic excitement.

The next second, a gale erupted, and the sound of wailing ghosts and howling demons filled Jiang Li’s ears.

She went forward to untie Wu Ming.

Wu Ming grabbed her hand and pointed to a wooden box on the table. "The medium... it’s in there."

Yu Huannian and Miao Anji were keeping the flames at bay. Seeing Wu Yonghui with no strength left to resist, Cao Kun strode over and slapped him hard across the face several times.

"Why didn’t she jinx a heaven-damned bastard like you to death?"

Wu Ming fainted as soon as she spoke. "Xiao Nian, get Wu Ming out of here first," Jiang Li commanded.

Li Tianming grew desperate when he heard this. He grabbed a nearby jar and ripped off the talisman paper sealing it.

Jiang Li clearly saw a horde of grotesque, clawed things lunging at her.

"You dare block my path? You’re courting death!" Li Tianming was utterly frantic. He had agreed to help Wu Yonghui, supposedly to perform a life-swap ritual for him.

But in reality, his own death was imminent, and he was looking for a body to possess. Wu Ming was his perfect target.

’Someone whose fate had already been swapped once—how could she possibly have another life to trade?’

Jiang Li watched in astonishment as the creatures tore and bit at her. She felt a sharp pain in her arm, yet no wounds appeared.

Noticing the commotion, Cao Kun rushed back inside to grab his gear.

"Jiang, catch!"

Cao Kun immediately tossed her a Peach Wood Sword.

Jiang Li picked it up and started slashing.

Yu Huannian came forward to lift Wu Ming. When the surrounding creatures saw him, they didn’t dare to approach.

Li Tianming’s hands moved faster and faster. ’Almost... just a little more.’

Jiang Li suddenly saw Wu Ming’s spirit beginning to separate from her body. Her mind buzzing, she lunged forward and struck Li Tianming with her palm.

"PFT!" Li Tianming coughed up another mouthful of blood. Jiang Li stared at his hands, her gaze murderously cold.

The next second, two sharp cracks echoed.

"AHHH!"

Jiang Li had broken both his hands. She glanced back at Wu Ming. The spectral image was gone. ’She should be fine now.’

Wu Yonghui scrambled over, "Master Li, Master Li..."

"Dad, if you keep this up, I’ll kill myself right in front of you!"

Wu Tong picked up a nearby branch and held it to her own neck.

"Tongtong, why are you being so foolish? If we don’t swap your fate, you’re going to die!"

"Bah! You already swapped Wu Ming’s fate twenty-four years ago! What life did you think she had left to trade? This evil bastard was just playing you for a fool!"

Hearing Cao Kun’s words, Wu Yonghui was instantly stunned.

"This old monster was obviously just looking out for himself, you dumbass!"

Cao Kun cursed loudly while checking on Wu Ming’s condition.

Jiang Li looked at the creatures still lingering around her. ’They aren’t getting any closer, but why haven’t they left?’

"Master Cao, how do we deal with them?" Jiang Li asked, pointing to the entities before her.

Cao Kun’s cursing stopped abruptly. He looked at her in surprise. "You can see them?"

"Yeah."

Li Tianming’s hands dangled uselessly, giving him no chance to cause more trouble. A moment later, the police burst in.

"Damn it! Who called the cops?!" Wu Yonghui roared, his heart turning to ice.

"I did," Wu Tong said, her eyes red as she stared at him.

Wu Yonghui froze, then his expression twisted into a ferocious snarl. "Wu Tong, you ungrateful brat! I did all this for you!

And what do you do? You call the cops to arrest your own father! Don’t you know you won’t live past your twenty-fourth birthday?!"

"Then I won’t live."

Wu Tong looked at Wu Yonghui, her heart filled with despair. The moment she learned the truth, she was filled with nothing but shame. Her core beliefs had shattered. ’Death would be a release.’

"You... you...!" Wu Yonghui pointed at her, sputtering with rage. The next second, he was in handcuffs and being led away.

Jiang Li stepped forward and opened the box. Inside was frozen umbilical cord blood and a lock of baby hair. ’This must be the medium Wu Ming mentioned.’

"Hee hee!" A small, bloody head popped up and leaned in, flashing her a grotesque, toothy grin.

"Whoa, crap!" A small head suddenly popped up right in front of her. Jiang Li was so startled that her hands trembled, and she almost dropped the box.

With Wu Yonghui and Li Tianming arrested, Yu Huannian carried Wu Ming toward the main road.

Jiang Li had just gotten into the car when Luo Jingheng’s gaze shifted to her.

Or more accurately, his gaze swept around the entire car.

The little ghost from before had brazenly climbed onto Luo Jingheng’s head and was now playing with his hair. Jiang Li watched, her heart in her throat.

"Why is it so cold all of a sudden? Young Master, should I turn on the heat?" Du Kang asked, looking back from the driver’s seat.

"Go ahead." Luo Jingheng turned and noticed Jiang Li staring at the top of his head. His eyes flickered. With an almost imperceptible tilt of his head, he shook the little creature off.

"Oof!"
