Wu Tong watched Luo Jingheng on the sofa. Maybe it was just her imagination, but he seemed especially exhausted and weak these past few days.

’Maybe I really will die on my twenty-fourth birthday.’

’Although it’s a bit of a shame, I’ve lived a happy twenty-four years. I don’t really have any regrets.’

"Miss Wu, you came to see me. Are you hoping I’ll save your father?"

Luo Jingheng looked up at Wu Tong. ’She’s the one who called the police, and now she wants me to save him?’

Wu Tong quickly waved her hands. "That’s not it, Mr. Luo."

Wu Tong watched him cautiously. "Mr. Luo, you have a bad heart, don’t you? If it’s a match... I’d like to donate mine to you."

Luo Jingheng glanced at her but didn’t take it seriously. The criteria for a heart match were incredibly strict. ’How could it possibly be a match?’

Wu Tong forced a smile. "We can at least try. You never know."

"Miss Wu, I’ll take you to the hospital to get tested right now." Du Kang, on the other hand, strode forward excitedly and led Wu Tong out.

Luo Jingheng leaned back on the sofa, watching their retreating figures. ’The only people who could possibly match with me are that little girl from all those years ago... and Jiang Li.’

’Everyone has their own destiny. It’s best to just let things be.’

’I wonder how Jiang Li and her group are doing.’

Luo Jingheng got up and went to sit in the garden.

「One day later.」 Jiang Li helped Wu Ming check out of the hospital and handed her the contents of the box.

Wu Ming stared at the items inside, her expression complex.

"Let’s go home." Jiang Li squeezed her hand tightly.

Just as they were leaving, Luo Jingheng got a call from Du Kang.

Du Kang’s voice, choked with tears of joy, came through the phone. "Sir, it’s a match! It’s a match! I’ve already contacted the hospital to schedule the surgery. I’m sending someone to bring you over right now!"

Listening to the voice on the other end, Luo Jingheng felt a daze wash over him. ’Could it really be such a coincidence?’

When Luo Jingheng arrived at the hospital, he went straight to Wu Tong’s room.

"Mr. Luo, I’m so glad I can help you," Wu Tong said, smiling at Luo Jingheng.

’He and his grandfather are the best people in the world. How can a good person not live a long life?’

Luo Jingheng took a couple of steps forward. "Did you ever come to the Luo Family estate years ago?"

Wu Tong looked at him and shook her head. "I don’t really remember. I had a bad memory as a child."

Luo Jingheng looked at Wu Tong. "Back then, Wu Yonghui came to me and asked me to help you. I refused."

Wu Tong shook her head. "Don’t blame yourself. It was for the best that you refused."

Wu Tong stared at the ceiling. ’Otherwise, the guilt would have been too much.’ These past few days, whenever she closed her eyes, her mind was filled with images of Wu Ming.

In her dreams, she interrogated herself again and again. The feeling was unbearable.

Luo Jingheng opened his mouth, but for a moment, he was at a loss for words.

He had always been preparing for the worst and never imagined a suitable heart would actually become available one day.

But at this moment, he felt an overwhelming sense of guilt.

"If you really want to make it up to me, Mr. Luo, then please be kind to Wu Ming on my behalf."

Luo Jingheng looked at Wu Tong. A few moments passed before he finally nodded. "Alright. I... promise you."

"Thank you."

The surgery was scheduled for Wu Tong’s birthday. At the hospital, Luo Jingheng had a large cake brought in for her, though she could unfortunately only look at it, not eat it.

"Thank you, Mr. Luo. I hope you live a long and happy life."

After making her wish, Wu Tong looked at Luo Jingheng, then lay back down. When the time came, she was wheeled into the operating room.

...

Jiang Li walked behind Yu Huannian, groceries in hand, when she suddenly stopped in her tracks. She looked back. Nothing.

Yu Huannian turned to look as well.

Then, as if by unspoken agreement, they both quickened their pace toward home.

Along the way, Jiang Li noticed that the plainclothes police officers who had been disguised as street food vendors were gone.

"Sister Qinghe, we have a situation!" she said, calling Ji Qinghe.

Ji Qinghe was instantly on alert. "Alright, I understand."

At one point, both Jiang Li and Yu Huannian stopped in their tracks and looked back.

Behind them was a couple who, upon noticing their gaze, hastily turned away.

"Let’s get back first." Jiang Li led Yu Huannian the rest of the way home without incident.

After she got home, she received a call from Ji Qinghe.

"Jiang Li, are you and Yu Huannian okay? We just received word—Kun Sha is back!

"We’ve heard he’s had plastic surgery, so no one knows what he looks like now. You two need to be extra careful!"

"Okay, I will." Jiang Li hung up. She hadn’t expected Kun Sha to return so quickly.

’Does this mean even Luo Jingheng’s father couldn’t keep him down?’

Luo Heng was at the hospital with Luo Jingheng, overjoyed to see that his surgery had been a success.

"This is wonderful. I never expected that the little girl you let go all those years ago would return."

Hearing this, Luo Jingheng’s hand clenched. He looked up at Luo Heng, his expression blank. "Who told you to come back?"

Luo Heng’s excitement vanished. "Heng, so many years have passed. Do you still hate me? I’m the only family you have left in this world."

Luo Jingheng stared at him coldly. "Shouldn’t I hate you? You’re the one who sent Mom away, all for a position of power."

"You drove Grandpa to his grave. How dare you show your face here again?"

Now, Luo Jingheng felt he had the strength to fight back. Before, he had just seen himself as a man on the verge of death.

But things were different now. He was going to cut all ties with Luo Heng for good.

"Luo Jingheng! I am your father! Don’t you forget who’s been supporting you all these years!"

Luo Heng roared in fury. ’He just got a new heart and he already dares to challenge me? What’s next, is he going to think he can fly?’

"I know perfectly well. Grandpa raised me all these years. What does that have to do with you?"

"If that old bastard actually had any real power, would he have let your condition drag on for so many years?"

"Luo Jingheng, get this straight. If it weren’t for me..."

"My heart was a voluntary donation from Wu Tong! It has nothing to do with you! Get out! COUGH! COUGH! COUGH!"

Luo Jingheng roared, then broke into a violent coughing fit.

"Sir, sir, please. The young master just had surgery, he needs to rest. Don’t stoop to his level."

Du Kang stepped forward and coaxed Luo Heng out of the room.

Luo Jingheng watched the scene with a blank expression.
