"I’m so sorry! I should have been watching where I was go...ing," I said looking up only to see Jacob. I swear Fate was playing dirty. Ugh!!

"Mr. Moore, I didn’t see you."

"That’s okay. It seemed you were in your own little world. Are you going somewhere?"

"Were you listening to my conversation?"

"I only heard the end. I apologize for ease dropping." I looked up into those sexy blue eyes. I needed to go. Why does this damn man make me want to scream! (No pun intended)

"Come with me, I want to show you something." He walked off and I followed. We walked out the hospital and crossed the street. Straight ahead was a huge empty building. He unlocked the door and led me in.

"Why are we here?" I asked looking around.

"This is going to be the new home for over five new medical practices and several independent physicians. This building has seven floors and renovations will he starting soon. Within six months the entire building will be renovated. There will be over a hundred employees and hundreds of patients coming in and out of here everyday. It’s part of the hospital’s neighborhood vitalization program."

"No one mentioned this at any of our financial or staff meetings."

"I have been working on this project for months and finally the last group signed yesterday. I own this building and the land. The hospital and management company will handle the patient referrals, payments and accounts. The papers were just signed twenty minutes ago and the lawyers are on their way to the courthouse to file them. It’s a done deal. Now I am looking for an administrator to run it. Do you know anyone that would be interested?" He said smiling with his arms folded.

"I still have almost a year left since I took the internship. I couldn’t do it."

"I talked to my brother in law. You know the one that is the President of your university. Anyway, I spoke to him and he has spoken to your Dean and they are willing to finagle the class load so you can work here. You can go to school full time now and work here part-time after everyone moves in which will be around six months. I just need you to help with the preparations. Your last semester would be online classes and then you graduate and you run the clinic full-time."

"What’s the catch, Jacob?

"I make all major decisions on purchases and any tenant negotiations. I am the owner and you will have to carry out decisions that I make whether you like it or not. You will report to me bi-weekly until profits are made and after on a monthly basis. You will be the liaison between the hospital, the management company and me. I will be your boss and you will answer to me only. Otherwise you have free reign." He said those last two sentences only inches from my lips.

"So basically you own this and then you will own me. No thanks." I said handing him back the keys. Good girl! There was no way I could work for him and then be with Evan. He was not going to mess this thing up with Evan.

"Cadence why do you make things so difficult? Shit! I am handing you an opportunity and you are basically throwing it back in my face." He threw his hands up.

"Why now? Tell me why all of a sudden you giving me this opportunity?"

"I don’t want you to ruin your life. This is what you wanted and I figured you could use this as a stepping stone and move on to bigger and better things."

I stared into his blue eyes. It was something else that he wasn’t telling me. They say the eyes are the mirror to the soul and I saw manipulation and control. I wasn’t interested. This was him being selfish and jealous?

I looked at my watch. "I have a flight to catch in less than a hour and a half. I better get going. Thanks for the offer but I’m going to have to pass."

I watched him run his hands threw his hair frustrated. He just didn’t understand. I didn’t need him to do this for me, I needed him for...Shit! I wanted him but I refuse to fall back in that emotional state of mind wanting a man when he couldn’t admit he wanted me and not a service I provided. Evan was a sure thing and after yesterday, I needed something good in my life.

I walked out and headed back across the street. I needed to go before I turned around and made a fool out of myself.

As I walked into the building none other than I walked dead into Garrett. Fuck! Could this day get any worst?

"Oh, Ms. Montgomery funny seeing you here," he said with that evil looking smirk.

"Move Garrett, I have to go!"

"I think you owe me a little of your time, since I only tried to give you what you wanted and needed," he whispered in my ear. He grabbed me by the arm and led me down the stairs. I didn’t want to make a scene so I stayed close. There was a supply room and he opened it up. He tossed me in there and turned on the lights.

"I just want to talk for now," he said.

"What do you want?"

"I want to know why you have been fucking Jacob behind my back and don’t lie because I know you have."

"None of your damn business. If you want to know talk to your friend.

"I can’t because you have driven a wedge between my friendship with him. I can’t believe I let a whore come between my relationship with him," he said shaking his head.

"Don’t you know you would never be the right one for him. He could never parade you in front of his parents and friends. You are trash. You are tainted and all you are good for is spreading your legs and sucking dicks. I should let you suck me off here for how you played us the other night you slut."

Before I knew it I slapped him. "Don’t call me that!" Was he really angry about what happened at the ball? He wanted to play a game and I just happened to turn the tables on him.
