Chapter 291: Storm of Rending Blades
Deathblade raised his weapons, basking in the fanatical cheers of the crowd.
The referee waited for the noise to peak before dropping his arm.
"And stepping up to challenge him... The Silver Rank 1 newcomer who shocked the entire Crucible Arena yesterday... ASURA!"
Swoosh—!
Rhain didn’t wait for the cheers.
He leaped gracefully from the middle rows of the stands, landing on the arena directly opposite to deathblade.
The moment Rhain stood up, every single pair of eyes was glued to him.
Across the ring, Deathblade let out a cruel laugh.
He crossed his massive machetes in front of his chest, glaring at Rhain with a gaze full of chilling disdain.
"So you’re the little bug who got lucky with Skullcrusher," Deathblade sneered, his voice echoing loudly. "I don’t know what dirty trick you used to bypass his Domain, but it won’t work on me. I am not going to play with you. The moment the bell rings, I am going to chop you into minced meat before you can even blink!"
Rhain’s dark grey eyes simply stared at deathblade.
He didn’t bother to reply to the trash talk.
The referee stepped into the center of the ring, holding out the hovering stone platter used for wagers.
"Place your wagers!" the referee commanded.
A heavy spatial ring materialized in Rhain’s palm.
He tossed it casually onto the hovering stone platter.
"I bet eight hundred Blood-Iron Tokens," Rhain announced.
Eight hundred Blood-Iron Tokens!
That was the equivalent of eight billion Aetherium Crystals!
In the Crucible Arena, wagers of that astronomical magnitude were exclusively reserved for Gold Rank 2 death matches between middle-stage Domain Masters.
To see such a staggering fortune placed on the line in a Gold Rank 1 fight was very rare.
Across the ring, Deathblade’s eyes widened behind his skull mask.
A split second later, uncontrollable, fanatical greed exploded in his gaze.
"BWAHAHAHA!" Deathblade threw his head back and roared with manic laughter. "Eight hundred tokens! You are actually gifting me eight hundred tokens!"
Without a single shred of hesitation, Deathblade pulled a heavy, blood-stained pouch from his own spatial ring and slammed it onto the stone platter.
"I match the eight hundred!" Deathblade bellowed, his voice vibrating with ecstatic bloodlust. "Today is my lucky day! With this fortune, I can buy two top-tier concubines from the inner city to enjoy for the rest of the year!"
The referee quickly verified the wager, and then hastily backed away to the safety of the barrier and raised his hand.
"Begin!"
The moment the command dropped, Deathblade did not waste a single microsecond.
He wasn’t an arrogant fool who would underestimate a tricky opponent. He had watched Rhain’s fight with Skullcrusher, he knew exactly how the man had won, and he had no intention of letting it happen again.
It was that strange domain.
His strategy was brutally simple.
Do not give the bug a single breath to cast it!
"DOMAIN OF RENDING BLADES!" Deathblade roared.
BOOM—!!!
The space within the colosseum distorted as a crimson territory expanded outward.
Thousands of condensed, razor-sharp blades materialized in the air, creating a vortex that aimed to shred everything in its path.
But Deathblade didn’t just rely on his Domain to do the work.
Swoosh—!
He exploded forward, crossing the massive arena in less than a heartbeat.
His speed was completely incomparable to the ordinary early stage Domain Masters.
He arrived directly above Rhain.
His two massive, blood-stained machetes slashed downward, carrying the full, unreserved, might of a Domain Master fighting for his life.
"DIE BEFORE YOU CAN EVEN BLINK, YOU LITTLE SHIT!" Deathblade shrieked, his eyes behind the skull mask burning with maniacal triumph.
Just as the Death Blade was falling rapidly like a meteorite, and he was about to cleave Rhain in two, the world before his eyes suddenly darkened,
In a fraction of a second, the bright morning sunlight, the roaring crowd, and the blood-soaked sands of the colosseum were entirely swallowed.
Deathblade’s machetes continued their downward trajectory, but even without being able to see, he knew that Rhain had already left his position.
BOOM—!!!
The dual machetes slammed ruthlessly onto the arena floor.
The overwhelming power of the Domain Master’s strike shattered the ground, fragmented rock and dust flying blindly into the pitch-black space.
"Damn you!" Deathblade cursed viciously, immediately pulling his weapons back and dropping into a defensive crouch.
"You were a second too slow."
A cold, calm, and emotionless voice suddenly echoed from the endless darkness in all directions, carrying an undisguised sarcasm.
Upon hearing that voice, Deathblade forced his rapidly beating heart to calm down.
He was a seasoned veteran who had crawled out of bloody pits; he was definitely not a brainless fool.
"Calm down!’ Deathblade ordered himself, his breathing steadying. ’I am not that brainless brute Skullcrusher! If I panic and blindly detonate my essence to blast the darkness away, I will just drain myself dry. That is exactly what this little bug wants!’
Skullcrusher’s fatal mistake had been expanding his Domain of Iron to its maximum limit and furiously spamming attacks into the air, exhausting his vast essence reserves until he was left defenseless.
Deathblade refused to repeat that suicidal blunder.
"DOMAIN OF RENDING BLADES... COMPRESS!"
Instead of expanding his crimson territory to fight the Origin Domain of Darkness for supremacy, Deathblade forcefully retracted his domain.
The thousands of razor-sharp blades whistling through the air rapidly shrank inward, condensing into a hyper-dense, whirling vortex that surrounded him in a tight, ten-foot radius.
"Mystic-Grade Martial Art: Crimson Cyclone Guard!"
By drastically compressing his domain and fusing it with a supreme defensive martial art, Deathblade formed an impenetrable defense.
Any attack that approached him would be instantly shredded, and his essence consumption was reduced to the required minimum.
"Come on, you little rat!’ Deathblade thought coldly, gripping his machetes tightly in the dark. ’The moment you trigger a spatial ripple to attack, my blades will tear you to pieces!’
Fifty feet away, hidden perfectly within the darkness, Rhain’s golden Eyes of Truth observed the hyper-dense defensive vortex.
’He’s significantly smarter than the giant,’ Rhain calculated calmly. ’It’s really a perfect turtle shell.’
But in the face of absolute power, a turtle shell was meant to be broken.
Swoosh—!
Rhain gathered a highly compressed vortex of pitch-black essence around his knuckles.
Void Fist. Second Form.
He punched directly into the empty air, sending the spatial transmission crashing straight toward Deathblade’s spine.
But the moment the microscopic spatial ripple formed near the edge of the ten-foot vortex, Deathblade’s honed survival instincts kicked in.
"FOUND YOU!"
CLANG—!!!
Deathblade didn’t dodge.
He forcefully commanded the whirling crimson blades of his domain to intercept the spatial distortion.
The Void Fist detonated against the condensed Mystic-Grade defense.
The sheer kinetic force made Deathblade stagger a half-step forward, but the devastating, essence-devouring properties of the attack were successfully blocked by the hyper-compressed domain wall!
"Is that all you’ve got?!" Deathblade roared into the darkness. He swung his right machete, sending a massive, concentrated arc of blade aura ripping back along the exact trajectory of Rhain’s attack.
Swoosh!
Rhain invoked the Heaven-Grade Boundless Sky Wind, his body vanishing as the lethal blade aura cleanly sliced through the space he had occupied a millisecond prior.
’His defense is strong, and his counterattacks are sharp," Rhain murmured in the mind. "But you cannot defend forever."
Swoosh! Swoosh! Swoosh!
Rhain shifted his position continuously, utilizing the Heaven-Grade Boundless Sky Wind to glide through his Origin Domain of Darkness without any sound.
He launched several spatially-transmitted punches from every conceivable angle.
BANG! BANG! CLANG!
But Deathblade’s hyper-compressed Domain of Rending Blades blocked each one of them.
Phantom Reaver Quintet!
Five streaks of pitch-black light detached from Rhain’s spatial ring and dissolved into the dark space, spreading outward in a five-point lethal array.
Guided by his vast Soul Power, the daggers struck simultaneously from five different angles, converging on the whirling crimson vortex like a pack of wolves testing a wounded bull.
DING! DING! DING! DING! DING!
Blades clashed against blades, and every single of the five daggers were deflected.
"Hahahaha! Is this all the great Asura can do?" Deathblade roared into the pitch-black space, his twin machetes continuously unleashing massive, crescent-shaped arcs of blade aura that tore through the darkness. "You cannot even break my defense! How pathetic!"
Rhain dodged another lethal arc of blade aura that shaved a lock of his dark hair.
His dark grey eyes narrowed sharply beneath the demonic Asura mask.
He knew that Deathblade was trying to provoke him with his words, so that he would make a lethal mistake in his rage.
But Rhain could not think of any way to defeat Deathblade, other than stepping directly into that vortex of blades.
’His compressed domain is too dense,’ Rhain calculated coldly. ’I am left with no other choice.’
With a flash of spatial light, the massive, pitch-black heavy broadsword materialized in Rhain’s grasp.
BOOM—!!!
A majestic, blood-red fire erupted from Rhain’s arm, instantly engulfing the heavy broadsword.
The dazzling heat of the Red Tribulations Heavenly Flame erupted, burning so intensely that the surrounding darkness was repelled, revealing Rhain’s figure.
"Empyrean Purgatory Bloom. First Form."
Rhain didn’t hide in the dark anymore.
He propelled himself forward like a blood-red meteor, crossing the fifty feet in a fraction of a millisecond.
He appeared directly above the swirling crimson vortex of Deathblade’s domain, bringing the blazing broadsword crashing down with the force of a collapsing mountain.
Deathblade’s eyes widened behind his skull mask as he felt the heat of the Heavenly Flame descending upon him.
But instead of fear, a manic, bloodthirsty grin stretched across his face.
"YOU FELL FOR IT, YOU ARROGANT BUG!" Deathblade shrieked triumphantly.
He hadn’t compressed his domain just for defense. It was a trap.
The moment Rhain’s broadsword struck the outer edge of the vortex, Deathblade reversed the flow of his essence.
"DOMAIN ART: RENDING STORM DEVASTATION!"
BOOM—!!!
The hyper-compressed, ten-foot vortex of thousands of razor-sharp crimson blades didn’t simply block the strike—it violently detonated.
Thousands of concentrated crimson blades exploded in a point blank explosion, each of them carrying the essence of a Domain master.
An ordinary peak Core Formation Realm would have been shredded into pieces with that attack.
And Rhain was caught directly in the epicenter.
SHRIIIK—!!!
"Gah!" Rhain gritted his teeth as the crimson blades tore into him.
The sheer, overwhelming density of the exploding domain shredded through his protective essence as if it were wet paper.
Dozens of concentrated essence blades sliced viciously into his flesh.
SLASH! SLASH! SLASH!
A blade ripped across his chest, carving a deep, bone-revealing cut through his dark robes.
Another tore through his left thigh, while three more slashed savagely across his arms and ribs.
Blood sprayed wildly into the air, instantly dying his torn robes.
The sheer agony of a Domain Master’s law-infused blades ravaging his muscles and meridians was excruciating.
But Rhain did not retreat.
If Deathblade wanted to trade flesh for an opening, Rhain was more than willing to pay the price.
Ignoring the agonizing pain and the blood pouring from his severe injuries, Rhain pushed through the vortex of blades.
Abyssal Sovereign Physique roared, forcibly healing his severe wounds as he used the momentum of his descending broadsword to smash directly into Deathblade’s crossed machetes that he had hastily raised to block.
CLANG—!!!
The impact was earth-shattering.
Deathblade’s arms curved under the monstrous physical force of the strike, his knees dropping a few inches.
"W-What?" Deathblade gasped in horror.
Any normal Core Formation cultivator would have been instantly diced into a hundred pieces by the Rending Storm Devastation.
Even if they survived, the sheer pain should have paralyzed them.
Yet the man standing before him, drenched in blood and covered in horrifyingly deep cuts was looking at him with eyes as cold and indifferent as an executioner.
