Chapter 14: Chapter 14. Unwanted Stranger Again?
Chapter 14. Unwanted Stranger Again?
Rosa Lin’s POV
"What gave you the guts to walk out on me?" he asked, stepping even closer, placing his hand on one side of my head, trapping me to the door.
I avoided his gaze, folding my arms with a frown, gazing to the ground. But I couldn’t help but shake. The aura coming from him was terrifying, his demeanor was not pure at all. He felt like a monster—felt like I was standing before someone who could kill without thinking twice. My heart wouldn’t stop racing no matter how much I tried to control myself.
"Look at me," he said, his voice calm and deadly.
I swallowed, but I refused, clenching my fists tightly and avoiding his gaze.
"I think I asked you to look at me."
I still refused, allowing the anger to control my thoughts and emotions. I am so done listening to him and indulging him right now. He suddenly moved his other hand and grabbed a hold of my jaw, tilting my head to force me to face him. I snapped my jaw away from his hand and slapped his hand away, clenching my teeth tightly.
And then he froze. I could feel his heated gaze watching me, like he was trying to understand me.
He scoffed and shook it away, pushing himself away from the door and then walking away from me with both of his hands in his pockets. Then he turned around back to look at me with a frown.
"I don’t understand you," he said. "Why are you so angry with me?"
I still didn’t reply, keeping my focus fixed to the ground.
"I am asking you a question, Rosa," he asked once again.
I am furious. Is he really a relative at all? Is this how he was supposed to act even if he wanted to correct me? There was no ounce of love, no sense of fair judgment. He didn’t even bother to ask me what was going on; he just went straight to accusing me of what I didn’t do. There is no difference between him and everybody else in the school—anybody else who might currently hate me.
"You know, amongst everything going on right now, I am the one who’s actually supposed to be so annoyed with you," he said.
I scoffed in my mind. Really? I thought to myself. Is he seriously kidding me right now? For one moment, he stepped closer with both of his hands still in his pockets. "I’m the one who’s supposed to be crazy mad at you, finding you getting yourself indulged in some kind of shameless activity."
His words felt like endless daggers stabbing through and through my chest, forcing me to clench my fists tightly all the more as I let out a sharp breath, closing my eyes tight and grinding my teeth together.
Oh my God! I thought to myself, tilting my head to the side as I finally looked up at the ceiling.
My body was shaking; I couldn’t help it. I felt the tears pour out of my eyelids and slip out of my eyes again. I wiped my tears quickly. I don’t want to give him the benefit of seeing me cry.
He looked at me for a while, then he scoffed, shook his head, and turned around. "Oh my God," he said, rubbing his hand against his forehead. "Are you seriously crying right now? No, I need you to explain. What’s that supposed to do? What are you trying to do, make me feel guilty for trying to correct you?"
I clenched my teeth together.
"I can’t believe you’ve become this, Rosa," he said. "I am stunned. Really, really stunned. Like, I am baffled. I’m correcting you and you are crying? Why, for what purpose?" he snapped.
I clenched my teeth tightly. Don’t do it, Rosa, don’t you dare do it. But my lips shook. I turned my focus to the ground, using my hair to hide my face as the tears finally poured out. I couldn’t hold it back anymore.
"Oh my God," he said. "When did you become this spoiled?"
I breathed out. God, I am so done. I am so freaking done. "I am only correcting you, Rosa," he said with a loud voice. "Why are you crying? What’s the purpose of that?"
I tilted my head up to look back at him, still keeping my focus mostly to the ground. "Please, I need to go," I said with a soft voice, using my hand to wipe away my eyes.
He frowned at me. He didn’t say anything for a while as I avoided looking at him.
"That’s what you really want?" he asked.
I didn’t reply to him, keeping my focus to the ground.
"Fine," he said. "Get out of my office," he said with a harsh voice. It felt like a stone straight into my chest.
I jerked, staring at the ground, but I finally lifted my eyes to look up at him to see him glaring at me with annoyance.
I nodded my head slowly. "Yeah. Sure."
I turned around and then walked out of the office, slamming the door with a loud bang. Then, I froze at the entrance, clenching my fists tightly and staring at the ground. My body shook. I stepped back and pressed my back against the frame of the door, tightening my eyes as tears poured out uncontrollably.
I shook my head. Pointless. Just so freaking pointless.
I sniffed and wiped my face before turning around and rushing out of the official administrative building.
When I stepped out, my phone vibrated in my pocket. I took it out quickly with shaking hands to see that it was Mia calling. I placed the phone against my ear.
"Hello," I said, wiping my face quickly, trying to act normal.
"Rosa," Mia called on the other end, "I’m at the cafeteria, but I can’t seem to find you anywhere."
"Oh, I’m sorry. Please wait. I’m coming. Just give me a few minutes," I said.
"Are you okay? You don’t sound good," she said on the other end.
"I’m fine, Mia," I lied.
"Are you sure?" she countered.
I breathed out. "I said I’m fine."
"Do you know what? Come and meet me out at the parking lot. I’m close to my car," she said.
I nodded my head quickly. "Okay, I’ll be right there."
The call ended.
I quickened my footsteps till I finally walked out of the administrative section of the school compound. I got past the cafeteria area, still feeling the piercing stares surrounding me. Many girls laughing, many guys looking at me with mockery. A few people were still lifting up their phones to take pictures.
I heard someone whistle and say, "Here goes the slut."
I clenched my fists tightly together. My life is officially ruined. When I first came to campus, my goal was to remain invisible. Never let myself show, never let anybody know me. But all because I got myself involved with that...
I stopped in my thoughts and then shook my head.
I finally got to the parking lot where I saw Mia relaxing against her car, typing quickly into her phone. She looked up, and when she saw me, her eyes widened. She stepped towards me with a worried look.
"Rosa?" she called softly, placing a hand on either side of my face. "Are you okay?"
I sniffed and smiled, nodding my head. "Yeah. Yeah, I’m fine."
She looked at me with disbelief. "You are fine with your eyes watery? Did you go for a swim with your face alone?"
I chuckled and shook my head. "No. No, I’m good," I said, brushing my fingers through my hair, then sniffing once again.
She folded her arms and gave me a displeased look.
I took a deep breath. "I’m fine, okay? Let’s just go somewhere else."
She folded her lips and then nodded her head slowly. "How about we head over to the cafeteria? Let me treat you with something nice."
I shrugged. "Okay, yeah, that’s fine."
She observed me for a while, then took my hand and began to lead me across the lot. We got to the cafeteria and took our seats. After ordering a variety of food, I found myself eating hungrily, rushing through my meal while she sat opposite me, looking at me with a raised eyebrow, her food half-eaten hovering close to her mouth as she observing me with a weird look.
I looked at her with my mouth stuffed with jam donuts and raised an eyebrow. "What?" I asked.
"You are stress eating," she said.
"I am not."
"Yes, you are," she argued. "You do that when you are inevitably worried and something is pricking deep in your chest." She dropped her food. "I’m here, Rosa. Talk to me, what is it?"
I looked at her, blinking rapidly, and then looked at the half-eaten donut in my hand. I dropped it and tilted my head to the side, letting out a breath. "How do I begin?"
"Start anywhere," she said.
I looked at her. "Okay, fine. Long story short, the owner of the villa..."
"Okay, what about him?" she asked.
"I went to return the keys, and I actually found out that he was my relative—and he’s also my lecturer and the new dean," I said.
"Oh, the new dean, Mr. Don Diaxu?" she asked. "He is your relative?" She was staring at me with disbelief.
I nodded my head slowly. "Yeah. The last time I saw him was years ago when I was still very young and my parents were still alive. He is my dad’s stepbrother."
She raised her eyebrows, nodding her head as she let the words sink in.
"So long story short, I went to return the key. He asked me to stay with him where I could comfortably live."
She was smiling, but I glared at her. "Don’t get too happy yet, because it’s really a pain in my ass right now."
I saw the smile on her face disappear. "Why? What happened?"
"I told him I was going to think about it. Okay? And just a few moments ago at the cafeteria, I met Mac."
I saw a frown crease her forehead and her knuckles tighten. "What did he do?" she asked, her voice low.
"Mac humiliated me. He harassed me once again, and Mr. Don was there. Instead of him defending me, he took me to his office and then accused me of indulging Mac," I said, my voice loud and echoing in the cafeteria.
She looked around and placed a hand against mine. "Okay, okay, chill. Calm down. You’re loud," she said.
I finally closed my eyes and crashed back into my chair, taking a deep breath.
"That’s okay, girl. Easy. Deep breaths. Deep breaths, be calm," she said.
I saw her looking around. I tilted my head and caught a few other people in the cafeteria gazing at me as though they thought I was going crazy. I shook my head and bent down, my hair falling on each side of my face.
The both of us were silent for a while. She didn’t say anything immediately. I heard her huff and looked up to see her folding her arms and shaking her head.
"If that’s how it is, then I can’t really support you staying with him," she said.
I tilted my head to the side, watching her.
She looked back at me. "Don’t agree to stay with him."
"Why?" I asked.
"Are you seriously asking me why? Can you really call him a good relative? He’s supposed to stand by you, support you, and defend you, and he’s accusing you of what you didn’t do. Just forget about him. Avoid him. That attitude right there just proves how you can’t even trust him. Obviously, he’s not related to you by blood since you claim he is your dad’s stepbrother, so..." she said, tilting her head to the side.
I clenched my teeth together.
"Just avoid him with your life, okay? Come on, eat up, you’ll be fine. I can’t believe I was about to have a crush on him." she muttered.
I frowned at her and she looked up at me.
" What? He’s bloody handsome."
I rolled my eyes.
" But that’s in the past. I hate him now. Avoid him."
I nodded my head quickly. "Sounds like a good plan."
She smiled. "It is a good plan, trust me. Such toxic people should be avoided to keep your life at peace and have your lifespan extended."
"Hello, ladies."
A deep, awfully familiar voice, pierced into my consciousness. The both of us felt someone drop into the seat by our table on the right side, pulling the chair close and leaning against the table.
It was a male. We tilted our heads at the same time to look at who the intruder was—and lo and behold, it was the weird, mysterious guy from yesterday. The one who paid our bills at the restaurant where I and Mia were celebrating my first month’s salary.
I flinched, my donut slipping from my hand and dropping onto the plate before me, my heart suddenly racing.
He smirked, his entire focus planted on me as he smiled.
"Hello, Rosa. We meet again."
