Chapter 13: Chapter 13. Raging Darkness
Chapter 13. Raging Darkness
Rosa Lin’s POV
The official section of campus was secluded. Students barely walked around here. It was occupied with tall magnificent buildings that housed all the various administrative blocks.
I followed about two feet behind Mr. Don Diaxu, watching his back as he walked with brisk footsteps that revealed the extent of the rage brewing deep down within him.
I was confused. I couldn’t understand what the hell was going on. Why did it seem like he was enraged at me? Didn’t he see what happened right there?
I was being harassed and humiliated. Maybe I was just imagining things. But watching his broad shoulders moving casually as he walked ahead, leading me to only God knew where and remembering the harsh way he called to me, I could help but feel the heat emanating from him directed at me. The air around him didn’t seem peaceful.
We walked until we entered a certain, secluded block which looked like it must be some VIP residence. We stepped in and came through a lobby, passing by a receptionist who looked at him and began fiddling with her hair, pasting a sweet smile on her face.
"Mr. Don, you came early today," she began, but he didn’t even bother to look at her.
She frowned when he walked past her like she was air while I followed closely behind him. I saw her eyes turn to press against me, followed by a frown, like she was displeased with me.
I scoffed. Why is she looking at me like that? I don’t owe her anything, I thought to myself.
We walked through a long corridor, and it didn’t take long before he stopped before a certain door and unlocked it. I glanced at the brown mahogany door with golden designs engraved on it. He left it open after walking in.
I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. Oh, help me, Lord, I thought to myself. Then I followed immediately behind him.
"Close the door."
I closed the door as calmly as I could, and then froze at the entrance. I fiddled with my fingers, my eyes tracing him as I wondered what he was going to say.
I saw the way he harshly dropped his bag against his chair. He leaned against his table, his face down like he was trying to calm himself. Then, he pushed away from the table, placed his hands in his pockets, and began to pace around the office, rubbing his chin with a frown creasing his forehead.
I am so perplexed right now.
I pressed my back against the door, my heart pounding so hard and fast, painfully in my chest, watching him until he came to a stop and turned around to look at me.
The displeasure in his eyes felt like a spear against my chest.
I flinched. My eyelids fluttered as I clenched my hands together, watching him with my lips shaking.
I couldn’t stop myself. He folded his arms.
"What was the meaning of that?" he suddenly spoke up in a harsh voice.
I swallowed.
I turned to the side with confusion before turning back to look at him.
Okay, what the hell is going on here? I wondered.
He glared at me. His brown eyes were filled with a sudden darkness that could literally choke the hell out of a weakling. It felt so intense.
I do not recognize the man I was looking at right now. The contrast to the way he was back at the villa was so freaking stark.
My heart wouldn’t stop racing.
I began to shake, unable to hold myself.
"Don’t you dare even think of playing games with me," he spoke, his voice deep and brooding, forcing me to take another step back and realizing I was already pressed against the door. My heart thudded painfully hard as I clenched my palms together.
"Explain what the hell was going on out there," he continued. "What were you doing with Mac?" he asked, his voice harsh and loud. "Wasn’t he the son of the family who was supposed to taking care of you after your parents’ death? What’s going on between the both of you?"
I was dumbfounded. I gazed at him, eyelids fluttering, my jaw hanging open, unable to form words.
Wait a minute. It suddenly occurred to me. Is he actually thinking I was doing something with Mac?
I found myself wondering, staring at him with my forehead creased. "I’m sorry. I’m a little bit confused," I said, closing my eyes and trying to calm down. "What are you talking about?" I asked.
He stepped even closer, making the space between us even tinier and forcing me to press my back further against the door. Blinking, I had to tilt my head to look up at him. He glared down at me, looking into my eyes. My lips trembled as I looked into those dark, terrifying eyes.
"Do I look like I’m joking?" he asked.
I swallowed hard. I was sure the sound was loud. I clenched my teeth tightly together and clamped my fists tight, trying to control my racing pulse.
"I’m going to ask you again, and you are going to tell me the truth. What the hell was the meaning of that? What were you doing with Mac?" he asked.
"I wasn’t doing anything," I replied, my voice shaking and my eyelids fluttering in disbelief.
Did he actually—oh my God! I couldn’t believe this right now.
"Really? Do you think I’m blind?" he snapped, stepping even closer and making me feel like I was about to choke.
I was so dazed right now. I couldn’t believe this. I opened my mouth, but no words could come out. My body began to shake. "I wasn’t, I swear to God I wasn’t—"
"I am not stupid, Rosa!" he snapped, interrupting me and forcing me to jerk.
I am totally taken aback by the rage in his voice. Why was he directing the rage at me? I can’t believe it, I thought to myself. He actually thought I was doing something with him. I clenched my teeth together. Why the hell was nobody seeing me as the victim? Why did everybody keep looking at me exactly like the image Mac was trying to paint on me? Why was nobody seeing my innocence?
I bit down hard against my bottom lip, struggling to contain myself.
"Why the hell would you indulge him?" he continued. "I know the kind of person Mac is. He’s spoiled, his parents didn’t train him very well, he lacks moral values, and I’m not surprised he would actually attempt to do that to you. But the only thing that’s pissing me the fuck off right now is the fact that you actually indulged him. You allowed him to hold you like that, to touch you like that in public. Are you crazy?"
At this point, I felt my strength fail me. I didn’t even have the zeal to speak anymore. I lowered my eyes and stared at the ground, gazing at the space between us, fiddling my fingers together.
Wow, I thought to myself. I didn’t say anything. I felt so moody. There was a heaviness in my chest I couldn’t push away.
"I am talking to you, Rosa!" he shouted. It made me flinch, but I still didn’t look up at him. I just clenched my fists tightly together.
"What did he mean by ’just like the last time’? What happened between the both of you the last time? What is the last time?"
He certainly doesn’t know about the news then. It’s good that way. Only God knows what he would do to me. Maybe he would crucify me more than those vicious keyboard warriors on the school forum.
I blinked, feeling my vision suddenly getting blurry. He must have been there the whole time, watching the entire scene. He must have heard everything Mac said. I felt so weak.
My body began to shake with pain, anger, temper, and so many emotions I couldn’t name mixed together, tugging at my chest. I blinked, trying to force away the tears that were pooling in my eyes, but it was fruitless. They slipped past my eyelids and slipped down my cheek.
The realization finally dawned on me. I have nobody, apart from Mia, who keeps trying her best to fight my fight for me. There is literally nobody in this entire campus I can look to who would stand by me. I am literally alone.
I closed my eyes and breathed out, letting out a shaking breath. I lifted my head and used my hand to wipe the tears, trying to hide them from him and turning my head to the side.
"Rosa..." he suddenly called.
I blinked and avoided his gaze. His voice was no longer dark and heavy like before. The change was instantaneous, making me feel even angrier than I was before.
"Rosa," he called, and moved, placing his hands on each side of my shoulders.
I shoved his hands away angrily, turned to the side, and folded my arms.
"What’s wrong?" he asked. "Are you okay?" He stepped even closer.
I closed my eyes. He is such a hypocrite, I thought to myself. Suddenly acting so soft after accusing me of what I didn’t do. I shook my head. I couldn’t deal with this anymore. I was so done. I turned around toward the door.
"Where are you going?" he snapped.
I froze with my hand against the doorknob and clenched my teeth tightly together. I turned around to look at him, glaring up at him. I saw the confusion in his eyes. The darkness was still lingering there, but it was controlled now, observing me like he was confused.
I opened my mouth, ready to pour out my heart to him, but words totally failed me. I didn’t know what to say. I didn’t know how to begin to explain myself. He had already painted me before even giving me the chance to speak.
I scoffed and stared down at the ground. What’s the point? I breathed out and looked back at him. "I’m sorry," I said calmly, my voice shaking. "I was actually waiting for Mia before this whole shit started, so I would love to go back. I’m sure she is looking for me right now and waiting for me. I’m sorry."
After speaking, I watched him for a while, waiting for him to say something. He didn’t speak, but that frown was still on his forehead. I shook my head and turned around, twisting the doorknob, about to pull the door open.
"Stop!!" he suddenly shouted, forcing me to flinch and freeze. It felt like an invisible lock had steeled my entire frame. "Don’t you dare even think of walking out on me," he added, causing me to shake as I felt the raw darkness coming from him, wrapping around me like an invisible magnet.
I felt like I was totally going to pass out on the floor before him.
