Chapter 18. Take A Walk

Rosa Lin’s POV

Mr. Don did not have any intention of making it easy for me.

Mia seemed to have given up trying to help me. She only relaxed back in her chair, a wide smile on her face, her eyes darting between the both of us, sipping on her drink and eating her food like she was watching a high-standard Netflix drama.

Mr. Don shifted the drink toward me. "Look," he said calmly, "I have opened it. The drink cannot go to waste, okay? Just have a drink. It’s cold, and it will help you relax."

I pushed the drink back to him. "Forget about it. I don’t take bribes. I know what you’re doing."

He smiled. "Is it that obvious?"

I glared at him.

He chuckled. "Okay, I admit it. I am giving you this drink to help you calm down and stop you from being angry with me. At least you should see that I’m trying here. I am a considerate person, and I wouldn’t want the only relative and the only person I want to become friends with to be holding a grudge against me. So, can you please just accept it and let it go?"

I shook my head, keeping my focus on my burger and picking it up to take another bite.

He chuckled beside me, shaking his head. "Well, isn’t that so interesting?"

All of a sudden, I felt his finger poke against the right side of my belly, making me jerk. I almost dropped the burger in my hand, then turned to look at him with a sharp glare.

"What the fuck was that?" I exclaimed.

He chuckled, using his hand to cover his mouth. "Oh wow, isn’t that interesting? I didn’t know it still worked. I thought you would have become stronger. I always knew that was your weak point," he added. "Didn’t know you would still have that with you. I thought you would have grown up."

I flashed him a warning glare. "Don’t do that again."

He chuckled. "Why?"

"Because I don’t like it."

"What if I do? What would you do?" he asked.

I gritted my teeth and pointed at him. "I will end you."

He smiled. "Wow, oh, that’s so cute. The quiet, calm girl suddenly wants to become a murderer. I want to see how that turns out for you."

He poked his finger against the right side of my belly again.

I jerked and glared at him, my eyes going wider. "Didn’t I say you should stop?"

He chuckled. "I’m sorry, I don’t listen to instructions from people who I’m actually older than."

"So cocky," I shot back.

"I learned from the best," he said and winked at me.

Oh my god.

I could clearly see that my sharp glare and warning did not stop him. He seemed so determined to frustrate me. He poked at the side of my belly for the third time, and I almost found myself letting out a snicker because of the jarring sensation against my ribs. I closed my eyes and gritted my teeth.

"Please stop," I said, trying my best to school my face to make myself look serious.

Mia kept chuckling from across the table, and God, I hated her so much right now. I wanted to end her.

I felt his hand press against my ribs again, forcing me to jerk, and this time, I had had enough. I dropped the burger and turned around in my chair, glaring at him.

"Stop!" I shouted.

He smiled. "No, I’m not," he said, leaning in closer. "The only way for you to escape this is to actually take my drink and accept my apology."

"As if you came here trying to apologize," I snapped. "You just came here being adamant and cocky."

"And like I said earlier," he countered, "I learned from the best. I’m only following in your footsteps."

His fingers came against the side of my ribs again. I jerked and clenched my fists tightly.

God, I want to explode right now.

I looked at him. "Fine!"

I grabbed his drink and drained the entire juice in one go, slamming it back down against the table. "Are you happy?" I asked with a sharp glare.

He chuckled and grinned at me. "Very satisfied."

I huffed and turned back toward the table.

"How did it taste?" he asked.

"It was bitter," I snapped.

He chuckled. "Yeah, right. I believe you," he said, dripping with sarcasm.

I scoffed and picked up my burger to continue eating. I was so tired of this. He should just leave me alone.

A vibration buzzed against the table. Mia quickly picked up her phone and looked at the screen. She pressed a button and brought the phone to her ear.

"Hello," she said. The smile instantly disappeared from her face, replaced by a serious expression. "Oh yeah, it’s me."

She listened for a moment. "Oh. Okay. Okay, all right. Um, just give me a few minutes. I’ll be there."

She ended the call, looking at the both of us. "Okay, so I am so sorry to leave you alone right now, Rosa," she said, getting up and picking up her purse and bag. "Something important just came up."

I looked at her with wide eyes.

"I’m so sorry. I guess Mr. Don here is capable enough to keep you company, right?" she said, turning to him.

He smiled and gave her a thumbs-up. "Absolutely."

Mia grinned. I stared at her in total disbelief.

"Betrayer," I muttered.

She chuckled. "Have a great day, girl. I’ll be back in a few minutes, okay? I won’t take long."

She reached out to pinch my cheek, but I slapped her hand away. Her laughter trailed behind her before she finally walked away.

I finally relaxed back in my chair and blew out a breath, trying to blow away the strand of hair stuck in front of my face. It didn’t move. I felt Mr. Don watching me. I used my hand to brush the hair behind my ear, looking back down at the burger on my plate.

I suddenly felt full. I didn’t feel like eating anymore. I glanced at the empty can of fruit juice. It must have been that stupid drink.

I scoffed, closed my eyes, and tilted my head to the side.

"You know, I would love to understand what happened," I heard him say beside me.

I didn’t turn to look at him.

"Rosa," he called.

I didn’t answer.

"Come on, Rosa," he said, and I felt his finger poke my shoulder, jolting me slightly to make me face him. I still refused.

"Well, your anger is really persistent," he said. "Never expected you to develop this much of an anger issue."

I still didn’t reply.

"Come on," he said, poking my shoulder again. "Just explain it to me, okay? Maybe I misinterpreted things all along. You can just tell me what happened."

I let out a soft breath. "It’s already too late."

He tilted his head, watching me from the edge of my vision. "Why do you say that?"

I huffed and turned my head slowly to meet his eyes. "You cannot mend shattered glass," I said, raising an eyebrow.

I saw him squint slightly as understanding reached his eyes, and I nodded slowly.

"Good. It’s a good thing you’re a smart lecturer," I said, turning away again.

I heard him chuckle beside me. "I never expected to see this side of you. You are truly a totally different kind of person when you are angry. You really have a sharp mouth when it’s fueled by rage."

I didn’t bother to respond.

"Well, concerning your quote," he said, "why don’t you try me?"

Frowning in confusion, I turned my head back to look at him. "Try you with what?"

He smiled. "You said I cannot mend shattered glass, right?"

I nodded.

"I said you should try me."

I raised an eyebrow, noticing the way he was smirking at me. His sharp, dark brown eyes gazed deep and intense into mine, making my heart suddenly race for reasons I couldn’t explain.

I could feel the stares all around us, making me blink. I glanced around the cafeteria to see other students whispering, some lifting their phones to take pictures and murmuring about the two of us.

I crossed my arms and hugged myself, turning away to stare at the table.

"Do you want to take a walk?" he suddenly asked.

I turned back to look at him.

He smiled softly. "It looks like we’re attracting a lot of unwanted attention, and you are clearly uncomfortable. So, why don’t we take a walk?"
