Chapter 19. Cute Expression

Rosa Lin’s POV

"This is a quiet space. Nobody comes here, it’s for officials only," Mr. Don Diaxu said as we walked side by side in a secluded park I knew I had never seen before ever since I got to campus.

My eyes only trailed from left to right, looking around, catching the luxurious look, the heavily paved, cemented, and almost tiled ground of the compound, and the few luxurious cars parked here and there that I definitely knew belonged to lecturers. My eyes just looked left and right with chills striking my nerves.

I could feel Mr. Don watching me from the side of his face. I tilted my head slowly to look at him. He was smiling.

"Relax, okay?" he said. "You are safe. Nobody is going to harass you for being here. It’s kind of a little bit exclusive, but as long as you have me, no one will bother you."

I didn’t even bother to reply to him. I just slightly nodded my head and looked ahead. Not like I was even worried about that anyway.

I heard him chuckle beside me.

"How long are you going to keep hating me?" he asked.

I raised an eyebrow. Probably till eternity, I thought to myself.

He did one of the things I hated the most, one of the things that had made me categorize him as the same as everybody else on campus: judging before actually figuring out the facts. It was one of the things that traumatized me the most about a month ago, and coming from someone like him, who was meant to be my relative, I couldn’t just put the pain together. It was too much.

I didn’t bother to reply to him. I kept my focus ahead of me.

We kept walking until we got to a part of the park that had a bench sitting in front of a beautiful grass-like garden, with a tree by the corner providing shade. I stopped by the bench and looked around, taking in the calm, quiet scenery. The tweeting of the birds and the exclusiveness of this place gave it a special vibe that just made me want to sit here all day.

The lecturers here were really having it great. I guess it earned its good, calm, and peaceful reputation because of the fact that the noisy and loud students weren’t allowed here. I could only stand and tilt my head to the side, smiling and taking in the scenery.

When I accidentally turned my head to catch a bird that was flying past, my eyes landed on him beside me, and I saw that he was gazing at me, smiling. And how devastatingly good that smile was.

Something twisted in my chest.

I blinked rapidly and quickly turned away, avoiding his gaze.

He chuckled. "Do you want to go somewhere?" he suddenly asked.

I frowned and tilted my head to look back at him. "Go where?" I asked in confusion.

He chuckled. "It’s a surprise. I mean, you’re going to love it. When you get there, you will see it," he said.

"No," I replied flatly and tilted my head to the side.

He chuckled beside me. "Goddamn it, so stubborn," he muttered under his breath. He stepped closer. "Come on, just give me a try, okay? I can already tell you are definitely going to love it. For real," he said.

I scoffed and rolled my eyes. "No," I replied, insisting, keeping my arms folded.

He was silent for a while. "You know you can’t keep this up forever, no matter how stubborn you try to act. I’m still going to break you."

I frowned. I tilted my head to look at him, and oh God, he was so close this time. I actually took a step back to avoid the proximity as he smiled at me.

"What are you doing?" I asked with a frown.

He chuckled. "What else? I was trying to tease you to get you to break," he said with a smirk.

I rolled my eyes and turned away. "I think it’s high time I returned back to the campus," I said.

I tried to walk over towards the entrance, but he moved so fast, his hand clamping around my arm.

"Nope, not a chance," he said. "Come on."

He began to drag me past the bench and the little miniature garden.

"Hey, wait!" I exclaimed, trying to stop myself, but he didn’t let go.

I tried to put my feet together to stop myself from moving, but he dragged me across the slippery surface of the tiles compound, making it impossible for me to get a footing. It felt weird, and I’m sure I would look miserable if a student were to catch me right now. That would also add another layer to my list of embarrassments with the students. I guess it was a good thing this place was exclusive to lecturers alone.

He didn’t stop dragging me. I felt infuriated. I finally gave up.

He laughed as though he thought it was funny.

"You are so cute ."

I could only huff and frown at him as I allowed him to lead me over towards where another official car park was.

This was where I saw the rest of the parked cars belonging to some of the high-class lecturers. Of course, his was definitely going to be parked here. His luxurious Rolls-Royce sat in a spectacular spot with pristine splendor, kept in a place that looked like it was perfectly designed and reserved for his car alone.

He walked over to the side and looked at me as he tried to open the passenger door for me. I frowned at him. I closed my eyes and shook my head.

" I am not going out on a date with you," I said.

He chuckled with a smirk. "I never said this was a date," he said. He gestured towards the car door, waiting for me to step in.

I closed my eyes and let out a breath. "Look, I have class in a few minutes, okay? And I don’t think there’s really any time for me to go anywhere. So..."

He moved with a speed that defied all my expectations. I felt his arm wrap around my waist, sending a jolt of heat through my spine. Then, he dragged me forward with a strength that definitely outmatched my little, tiny kitten strength. He shoved me straight into the passenger seat and then shut the door quickly, pressing the button in his hand.

I heard the lock click, all the doors in the Rolls-Royce instantly sealing up.

Wow, good gracious, I thought to myself. Way to treat a lady.

A flashed a glare at him caught the windows and the windshield as he walked around with a smirk. He opened the driver’s door moments later, stepped in, and shut the door after him, turning his head to look at me with a smile.

"This is not funny," I said.

"Of course it is," he replied. He then pressed the button to kick-start the vehicle.

"I have a class in a few minutes."

"I’m aware," he said. "I will get you back just in time. Don’t worry, I’m aware of your schedule," he said, the smile still expanding on his lips, making him look even more infuriatingly annoying.

Why the hell did he find this so funny? Taking me against my will to only God knew where.

He drove out of the official parking lot, and I saw him take what looked like a shortcut. It was a road I hadn’t seen before that led to a second entrance, connecting straight toward the main entrance that I usually used. Yep, the spot and section for the lecturers was really built to a pristine level that was distinct from the pathway the normal, casual students and other officials used. Yeah, this university definitely takes care of its lecturers—including him, since he was the dean.

Quite interesting.

He drove out of the campus and swerved straight onto the express road, forcing me to turn to look at him with my eyebrows squeezed together.

He turned to look at me and chuckled. "Breathe, girl. Don’t worry, I’m not kidnapping you. You will survive."

I huffed and folded my arms, turning to look outside the window, ignoring him. It wasn’t like he even gave me a choice. I couldn’t keep neglecting him, even though I wanted to.

We drove for a while until he finally stopped by a parking space, and when I looked up, I saw that we were in front of a confectionery shop.

Weird. Why a confectionery shop all of a sudden?

I looked at him, giving him a questioning look. He only chuckled.

"Relax, okay? Just wait in the car. I’ll be right back."

He opened the door and stepped out. He shut the door behind him, and I watched him through the window as he walked straight into the shop. My eyebrows remained creased with endless questions. My eyes darted from left to right.

Okay, what the fuck is going on here right now? I thought to myself.

After a while, I gave up thinking. I could only wait to see what he would come out with, and only God knew what that was.

Minutes later, I heard the doorbell on the entrance of the confectionery shop jingle. He stepped out, holding what looked like a large, packaged envelope in his hand. It looked bulky, like it was filled with something, and it made me frown.

Did he buy something? I wondered.

He finally got to the entrance of the vehicle. I heard the door click as he swung it open. I tilted my neck to my own side to avoid his gaze, pretending as though I hadn’t been watching him.

The moment he stepped in, a very sharp, sugary, honey-like, mouth-watering scent instantly filled up the car, hitting my nose with a force that made me flinch and almost choke.

I clenched my teeth tightly together.

Oh, hell no, I thought to myself.

I kept my focus outside the window, trying not to look at him.

"Rosa," he called.

I didn’t reply to him.

He chuckled by my side. "Rosa," he said.

I felt the opaque heaviness of what he was holding and the heat coming from within pressing close to my skin. He was holding it near my face, making the sharp, sugary scent even stronger against my nose. I smelled what seemed like sugar, honey, butter, and all assorted bakery delicacies wafting into one.

I recognized that smell so well. I squeezed my eyes shut, clenching my fists.

Be strong, Rosa, I thought to myself, grinding my teeth together. Be strong, you can fight this.

I couldn’t keep myself at bay. God.

I tilted my head slowly with a frown, glaring at him, only to see him smirking at me. There was this amusement in his eyes as he smiled, holding the wrapped parcel closer toward my face.

"Come on, take it," he said, intentionally teasing me.

I knew it, because I could see it in the glint in his sharp brown eyes.

"I know you want it," he said, adding a smirk that made me want to punch that cute expression clean off his face.
