Chapter 35: Chapter 35. Definitely A Ghost
Chapter 35. Definitely A Ghost
Rosa Lin’s POV
"Are you real?" I asked all of a sudden.
I saw the moment he froze. The excitement and the amusement in his eyes died for a few minutes, then he frowned and turned his head to look at me with a sudden seriousness.
"Well, why?" he asked.
I raised both of my eyebrows. "I just have to ask and confirm to be sure I’m not losing my mind here," I said.
"Why?" he asked again.
I opened my mouth and faltered for a bit. Should I even be telling him this? Because if this is all in my head, then I might probably be the insane one here, and he’s just going to look at me crazy just like anybody else. But the incident with Maya back at the cafeteria was not a dream. It was real. He was there. Maya talked to him, but she can’t remember him. Does this mean he’s just going to interact with everybody here, vanish, and nobody else will remember him? Do I have to question that theory or do I have to talk to him first?
He raised an eyebrow. Something that resembled understanding crossed his eyes. He chuckled and shook his head, seemingly amused by the way I was looking at him.
"You have nothing to worry about," he said.
I frowned.
"Time will tell," he said. Then he slowly got up from the chair and walked over to stand behind me.
I tilted back my head to look at him, observing him in confusion. He came so close this time, forcing me to jerk back looking straight into his eyes. I felt his warm breath against my face.
That was when I flashed and looked ahead of me back to the class to finally register that the instruments had stopped playing. My eyes widened when I watched everybody. Everybody was frozen like statues in place in the last task they were doing, like they had been covered in ice.
I frowned and got up instantly, my body shaking. "What the hell?" I muttered.
He chuckled. "Relax and sit back down." His hand came against my shoulder, forcing me to sit back against the chair.
I flinched and tilted my head to look up behind me at him.
He chuckled. "Relax, okay? It’s only temporary. Everything is going to get back to normal soon."
I frowned. My breath hitched, my heart raced uncontrollably. "What’s going on? Nobody is moving," I said with panic in my voice.
He chuckled. "Breathe, Rosa. It’s only your head," he said. "It’s not real."
I frowned, staring at him. He leaned in, his face so close to mine, his eyes darting around my face, tracing my nose. I saw the moment they landed on my lips and then diverted back to my eyes.
"Has he confessed yet?" he asked all of a sudden.
I frowned in confusion. "Confessed? What—what do you mean? What are you talking about?" I asked.
He chuckled. "Your uncle, Mr. Don," he said. "Has he confessed to you?"
I ground my teeth together, my eyebrows creased. "Why does he have to confess to me?" I asked.
He smiled. "I see the both of you have just been the way you’ve always been."
I frowned. "What do you mean?"
He smiled at me. "Time will tell. Both of you have always been stubborn, never wanting to admit your feelings, always playing the cat-and-mouse game until maybe it was probably almost too late, and then finally everything blows out of proportion, and that is when you finally realize how crazy you are about each other."
I am staring at him with disbelief, my eyes wide. "Hello, mister. What sort of stupid illusion are you cooking up? He’s my uncle," I said with a snap.
He chuckled and smirked. "Yeah, that’s right. But that wouldn’t stop you from developing crazy feelings for him."
I blinked my eyelids rapidly. "I—I—I’m not developing stupid feelings for him," I said.
He chuckled. "You see the way your eyelids flickered right now, the way your lips trembled? That’s an evident sign that you are lying," he said.
I glared at him. "I’m not lying."
He smiled. "Your face is red. You’re probably embarrassed because you have been caught in your lie," he said.
I clenched my hand into a fist and stretched it towards his face. "This is going to redesign that beautiful face of yours if you keep saying that," I said.
He chuckled and smirked. "Wow. Does that mean you think I’m beautiful?" he asked.
I glared at him. "God, can you please just leave? Can you quit all of this?" I said, gesturing around the frozen class. "What are you—what are you doing? Do you have some magic powers? Are you trying to manipulate my mind?" I asked.
He smiled. "Well, at least your subconscious has registered to you that this is not normal," he said. "Everything going on around here is obviously paranormal. Either that, or you are probably stupid. Your friend Mia might be right. The trauma of last semester must have gotten to you and now your mind is just cooking up hallucinations just to cope," he said.
"This is not funny," I said, glaring at him. "Stop messing with my sanity."
He smiled. "Relax, Rosa. Nothing is real."
"So, what’s going on? Why did you attack me in my dream? Why did you do this?" I asked and pulled down the scarf on my neck to show him the hickey.
I saw his eyes dart to it.
He chuckled. "Well, that’s just a mark to let anyone who tries to come close to you know that you have already been taken."
I frowned. "Taken by who?"
He smirked. "Taken by me," he said with a grin. "You obviously belong to me. You just don’t know it yet."
I am staring at him with disbelief. "I don’t belong to anybody," I snapped.
He chuckled and shook his head. "As much as I would love to keep having this endless banter with you, I think my time is almost running out," he said. He pulled away from me.
I stood up from the chair and glared at him. "You can’t just come here and scramble with my brain and just vanish like that," I said.
He chuckled. "Wow. Your sharp mouth is really stunning. Never knew you to be this sharp," he said, tapping against his jaw. "Were you? I never remembered you this sharp-mouthed. Perhaps you have already developed some kind of audacity this time," he said, frowning.
"What are you talking about?" I snapped. "Do you know me from anywhere?" I asked.
He smiled. "Time will tell."
At this point, I felt like pulling my hair out. "You keep fucking saying that! What does that mean?" I asked.
"I have nothing more to say," he said and began to walk away.
He froze. "Oh, and one more thing," he said, stretching out his index finger like he was trying to make a point. "Your uncle," he said with a smile, "he has a huge secret he’s keeping from you. I mean, I wouldn’t pressure you to figure it out, but maybe it might actually be important you figure it out because the last time he kept that secret from you, whew, things didn’t turn out well. It ended up with a broken limb and a bloody intestine," he said with a smile. "I guess you wouldn’t want that to happen, so why don’t you head over to him, and maybe ask him a few questions and just find out?"
My jaw hung open as I watched at him.
What the— This guy is messing with my mind right now. I could only blink uncontrollably, my lips trembling, mouth moving to make out words, but none coming out.
He chuckled and walked close over to me, standing before me. Then he leaned in close, bringing his lips close towards my ear.
"Have a very good day, my love," he said.
I saw him tilt his head, probably looking at the mark on my neck.
"It feels so good to own you," he said. Then he leaned closer and pressed a kiss against the mark.
I flinched. I placed my hand against his shoulder, trying to shove him away. "Get away from me, pervert," I said.
He chuckled. I felt his hand come down straight against my shoulders, sliding down towards my boobs and squeezing slightly against them. I flinched, but before I could react, he was nowhere to be found.
I blinked, my head darting left and right, turning around quickly. He was gone, vanished, just like that, like the wind.
When I looked around, I saw the rest of the students still playing their instruments, chatting with themselves. Everything had returned back to normal. And then at the forefront of the class stood a man who was looking at the electronic board in front with his arms folded behind him, his reading glasses adjusted against his nose, eyelids squinted, observing the numbers that were generating, popping up on the electronic board.
"Well, instrument number four, you are doing a very good job. Keep it up. Don’t drop the tempo," he said casually.
My eyes widened. Is that the original lecturer? I thought to myself. I was confused.
I saw the man turn to look at the class, then his gaze landed on me. He frowned and adjusted his reading glasses.
"Hello, Miss Rosa. What’s wrong? Why are you standing? Why aren’t you playing your piano?" he asked.
I flinched. I swallowed and blinked, then I chuckled nervously and shook my head. "Um, it—it—it’s nothing, sir. I’m sorry. I—I felt pressed for a while, but I—I—I think I’m good," I said.
He chuckled. "Please do well to keep up. I can’t see your grade here," he said.
I am in a total stupor right now. Oh my God. There are no two ways about it. He’s definitely a ghost.
