Chapter 53: Chapter 53. So Not Real
Chapter 53. So Not Real
"Stop trying to cover up and hide from the truth that is staring you right in the face, Rosa. You both are clearly not related."
Rosa scoffed, jerking to the side and staring at Mia.
"I can’t believe the words coming out of your mouth right now. I always believed you were one to stand by principles, look at things that are supposed to be done the right way, and follow through with it. What the hell are you suggesting to me? What ideas are you planting in my head?"
Mia smirked.
"Are you afraid that I might actually be right?" she asked.
Rosa’s eyelids fluttered.
She scoffed and turned away, her jaw dropping.
"Unbelievable," she said, pressing her palm against her forehead. "We are related. That’s still the fact."
Mia raised an eyebrow.
"Yeah, certainly not by blood," she smirked.
Rosa closed her eyes and tilted her head to the side like she was trying to contain her rage.
Mia smirked. She saw Rosa’s jaw working, clenching her teeth together, her lips twitching as she watched her expression with her eyelids squinted.
"You know, with your reaction right now, I might actually begin to start believing that the feeling is mutual."
Rosa’s eyes snapped open.
She slowly turned to look at Mia, giving her a threatening glare.
"What?" she asked.
Mia scoffed.
"You’re acting so worked up about it. I mean, if it’s really nothing, you shouldn’t be so agitated. Which brings me to the question that he must have done something really heavy to you. Your innocent mind just can’t take it," she said and leaned closer, tapping against her cheeks, pouting.
"I’m really so inquisitive," she said. "You’ve piqued my curiosity."
Her eyes widened, forcing Rosa to stare at her with her eyes wide.
"What is that look you’re giving me right now?" she asked.
Mia leaned even closer and grabbed her hand.
"Why don’t you tell me?" she said, pouting.
Rosa blinked.
What the fuck? she thought.
Mia moved even closer.
"You don’t have to keep things from me, you know? I don’t recognize you anymore," she said, whining like a little child. "You’ve always been so free with me, telling me every single thing that goes on in your life. All of a sudden, ever since Mr. Don came in, you’ve been so closed off. Am I not your best friend anymore?" she asked, still whining.
Her jaw dropped deeper into the pout with more effort, eyelids batting continuously.
Rosa stared at her with shock.
"Who the fuck are you sitting right now in front of me?"
Mia didn’t quit with the hand. Rosa tried to shrug her hand away from hers, but she refused.
"Did he flirt with you?" Mia asked. "Did he tease you?"
She squinted her eyelids as she scrutinized her deeply.
"Did he touch you?"
Rosa scoffed and blinked rapidly, but the flush was clear on her cheeks.
"Can you just shut up?" she exclaimed.
Mia smiled. She couldn’t help it. She threw her head backwards and laughed out loud.
Then she tapped against Rosa unconsciously.
"Just tell me something," she said.
Rosa shook her head.
"No. No. Please, just quit it, okay? For real. I don’t want to talk about it," she said, shaking her head quickly.
Mia sat by the side, angling her body a little bit, cataloging Rosa’s movements, and then slowly nodded her head.
"Okay, sis," she said. "If you say so, I’m not gonna bother you anymore. It’s obvious he must have made you..."
Rosa’s head felt like a ticking time bomb.
She turned to glare at Mia.
Mia quickly looked away, raising both of her hands in surrender.
"Suit yourself," she said. "Regardless of whatever happened, I still think he genuinely cares about you. Believe me, I’ve never seen him look at anybody else the way he looks at you."
Rosa scoffed.
"You have only seen him once, Mia."
"What makes you think so?"
Rosa turned to look at her.
"What? I have seen him many times. He is a lecturer? And the Dean."
Rosa rolled her eyes.
"Yeah, right. Whatever. He clearly just wants what’s underneath my skirt," she said.
Mia’s eyes widened at that sentence. She immediately leaned in, holding Rosa’s arm with a jolt.
"What did he do to make you think that?"
Rosa shook her head.
"Forget about it, Mia. Like I said, I don’t want to fucking talk about it."
Mia stared at her with amusement, her lips twitching.
"So childish," she muttered.
Rosa rolled her eyes.
"Yeah, right, whatever," she muttered.
Mia chuckled and relaxed back against the chair, folding her arms.
"Still disappointed that you didn’t stayed with him, though. I was already imagining the perfect life for you."
Rosa didn’t respond.
She tilted her head to look at Rosa and saw Rosa staring down at her backpack. Her movements were no longer sharp like before. She looked like she was lost in thought.
Her hair, which fell to the side her face, was quickly wiped away with her hands and placed behind her ear.
Her expression wasn’t jovial, just like it was a few seconds ago. It slowly turned dark.
Something was bothering her.
She leaned in close.
"Are you okay? You look so worried," Mia asked.
Rosa stole a glance at the corner. Then she forced a smile.
She shook her head quickly.
"Oh no, um, it’s nothing, for real," she said.
Mia looked at her with displeasure.
Rosa chuckled.
"I’m serious, okay? For real, it’s nothing."
She quickly got up with her bag in her hands.
"I, um, I just need to do a very quick research. Is the room you kept for me still available? Just need to work on something. Might be busy for a while."
Mia let out a soft breath. She shrugged with disappointment clearly written on her face.
She looked at Rosa.
Rosa got that expression. She closed her eyes and then breathed out, looking to the side.
"Okay, fine. I promise that the moment I have cleared my head, I will talk to you about it," she said.
Mia squinted her eyelids at her.
"You know, you’ve already said you promise. You break it, it’s an abomination."
Rosa chuckled.
"Yeah, right. I get it," she said.
Mia scoffed.
"Yeah, it’s obviously still available. I’ve not been able to bring myself to convert it into anything else, so you can take it."
Rosa smiled.
She leaned down and hugged her.
Then she turned around, pulling along her luggage as she disappeared up the stairs.
Mia watched her leave and then crashed back against the chair with a slight frown.
This girl, she thought to herself, definitely going through a lot.
Not really comfortable with the look in her eyes right now, she thought, biting her lips.
And I also need to figure out what went on between her and Mr. Don. What makes her avoid him? Is he really perverted like Rosa just mentioned right now? Was what she thought could be a potential help to Rosa actually a dangerous move?
As she was thinking this, she saw a blurry shadow pass by the closest window to her from the corner of her eyes.
She blinked and quickly turned to it, her eyes widening as she stared at the window a few meters away.
She squinted her eyelids.
I am definitely sure I got a glimpse of someone passing by the window, she thought, tilting her head to the side.
Well, it’s daytime. That was clear enough for me to see, right? she thought.
She blinked, scoffing.
Maybe it’s just my imagination.
Before she could turn, the figure crossed again, and it was so clear this time.
Only that it was so fast, like a blur of black shadow, something the eyes were unable to catch immediately.
What the fuck? she thought to herself.
She got up from the chair, walked over towards the main entrance, and stepped out, shutting the door behind her.
She stepped down the front steps of her apartment building, walked around the house towards the other corner, straight to the window where she was sure she saw the figure.
She stopped in the long, sprawling space around her.
She looked from left to right.
There was nobody. Nothing.
She frowned and then stared at the window.
Then what the hell was that?
It felt as if someone else was in the compound estate.
She swallowed hard as an uneasy feeling suddenly settled at the pit of her belly.
She hugged herself and traced her arms against her shoulders.
She shook her head quickly.
You are seeing things, Mia. Forget about it.
She breathed out, suddenly feeling a cold, chilling presence.
That prickly unsettling feeling of being watched hit her hard. Like there was something that was not pleased with seeing her.
Her senses picked up a whiff of an emotion that stung.
Her heart rate picked up speed. She felt the shimmering air around her.
What the fuck? she thought with a frown.
Yeah, I think I need to get back inside. What the hell is this weird feeling? she thought.
She then turned around, only to find herself slamming face first, hard with brutal force due to the speed at which she had turned, crashing into a tall, huge, figure that had been standing still behind her.
Her face planted against his huge chest, colliding against rock-hard abs.
She stumbled backwards, her hair ruffling and falling down over her face as she struggled to catch herself.
Then she stabilized, breathing hard, her heart racing, and she jerked back in fear and shock, quickly using her hand to wipe her hair away from her face.
Her eyes traced a huge, manly figure. She gulped.
This muscular frame stretched a casual T-shirt, with a protruding chest and huge, hair-covered forearms that made the shirt look way too small.
Her eyes were wide, her heart racing so fast for reasons she couldn’t understand.
Her eyes slowly traced up his broad chest, to his Adam’s apple, and his sharp jawline—strong enough to swallow her whole. Her gaze drifted over his stubbled chin, his defined lips, his prominent nose, and his striking cheekbones. Finally, she met his dazzling glittering diamond eyes, narrowed slightly as a smirk spread across his lips.
Her eyelids fluttered without control.
Oh. My. Fucking. God! she thought.
Seeing the way he was staring at her intensely, a knowing look on his face, the smirk on his lips expanding like he could see directly into her thoughts, she shifted one foot to the other.
Her hands remained suspended close to her head, where she had just wiped the sweat from her face, staring at him in a daze.
Her jaw dropped open.
No fucking way, she thought to herself, unable to stop the endless fluttering of her eyelids.
He is so not real.
