Chapter 738: Impossible Task

Chapter 738: Chapter 738: Impossible Task

"By the way, why’d you only bring the three of us here?" Inquired Ciel curiously.

"Hm? Oh, I only got permission to summon those who were subjected to the trial, so I couldn’t bring your friends here."

"What about Alkimia?"

"Well, it seemed highly unlikely that she’d be participating in this battle, so..."

"Let’s get back on track, shall we? His abilities?" I prompted Samsara.

"Right...to begin with, there’s been no change to his basic Skills, such as Appraisal, Item Box and his immunities to Elemental Magic and Status Effects. As for his System-specific Skills...first, there’s Death Scythe, which is now fused with his Touch of Death Skill. He can phase shift this weapon, and depending on which state the weapon is in, the effect is different.

If he slices you while the blade is intangible, he drains your life force. Which will primarily inflict fatigue, but enough cuts and he’ll irreversibly shorten the lifespan of the victim. And if he cuts someone while the blade is tangible...it casts the same effect as Touch of Death, the victim will die instantly."

"Huh? Wait...Touch of Death had a twenty-four hour cooldown, didn’t it? The way you said that, you made it sound like it doesn’t anymore," Frowned Ciel in response.

"Well, uh, because...yeah, it doesn’t. The effect of Touch of Death is permanently applied to the blade of his scythe when it’s tangible. And as you already know, it’s indestructible, not unlike all of your Personalis Arma weapons," Samsara informed us.

"And somehow, that weapon is the least of our concerns," I responded dryly.

"I know that Kai and Ariella are immune to Touch of Death, and Cleo can survive it once...so, what about Baraqiel?" Ciel spoke up.

"Yes, it won’t have any effect on him. Fortunately, Samsara seems to have forgotten to make that ability strong enough to be capable of killing a divine being. Oh, and Jaden Xeno can also survive it while using Spirit Fusion with his Rejuven Spirit. A small consolation in an otherwise tremendous screwup," Replied Uranus pointedly.

"U-Uh, moving on, his Death Rattle Skill has evolved too. It’s now a passive Skill with a constant effect. The black and red energy swirling around it, it covers a radius of five meters around him. Anyone without Status Effect Immunity who gets that close to him will suffer severe cardiac arrest.

Those with High Status Effect Resistance have a fifty percent chance of surviving, and Mid Status Effect Resistance gives you about a ten percent chance of survival. And with Low Status Effect Resistance, it’s less than one percent.

But it isn’t exclusively a passive Skill. While that effect covering a five meter radius is constant, he can also trigger a burst of that energy across a twenty-five meter radius. But that comes with a five minute cooldown, so he can’t use it in quick succession."

"Damn it, that basically takes me out of the equation! Hey, can’t you upgrade my High Elemental Resistance and Mid Status Effect Resistance to Elemental and Status Effect Immunity?" Requested Ciel hopefully.

"Well, yes, that would be easy, but, uh...," Samsara trailed off.

"Go ahead. It’s a small and inconsequential enough of a change that we can overlook it. And given the impossible task they’re now facing because of you, I’ll allow it," Stated Uranus, following a brief pause.

"Great! Alright, then, here goes...and done, your Resistances have been upgraded to Immunity!" Samsara informed Ciel cheerfully, whose face lit up in response.

"Awesome, now I don’t have to worry about Status Effects anymore!" She grinned excitedly.

Huh, I think that makes me the only X-Ace who isn’t immune to Elemental Magic. Well, it’s fine, Leto doesn’t have any form of Elemental Magic, after all.

"With that settled, let’s get back to his abilities," I remarked as I addressed Samsara.

"Right. Next is Undead Immortality. I already covered what it does, it’s the passive Skill that makes him unkillable."

Hm...I wonder...

"Will Pilfer work on that Skill? If I use Pilfer to steal it, will it be possible to kill him?" I inquired with a sense of cautious optimism.

"Yes, it’ll work. But that effect only lasts for five minutes, once that time is up and the Skill returns to him, he’ll regenerate again. And unlike with the Demon Lord, extinguishing his Mana and targeting his soul with Drain won’t work. Sorry," She replied apologetically.

Seriously?

"Come on, you couldn’t have let that one weakness stick?" Sighed Cleo in exasperation.

"When his body is destroyed, his consciousness remains intact, and it’s completely intangible, it doesn’t exist in any form you can target. If there’s one weakness I can think of, it’s that, though I’m not even sure I can call it a weakness...he can’t detach his consciousness from his body at will.

It’s tethered to his body. If his body is torn apart, his consciousness will tether to the biggest piece. If he’s completely vaporized, his consciousness will linger around the spot where his body was destroyed, and then regenerate in that spot."

"In that case, what if I use Void to swallow up his body without destroying it first?" I asked her.

"I-I’m really sorry, that won’t work either. His consciousness won’t get drawn into a black hole, so in that case, his consciousness will get forcibly detached from his body."

"...okay, seriously, why the hell were you so thorough with his System?!" Exclaimed Cleo incredulously.

"W-Well, I figured his could probably be the last System I make, at least for a very long time, s-so, I...yeah. Sorry..."

"Let’s just move past it. Continue," I prompted her.

"Okay...last but not least are his necromancy Skills. Turn Undead implants a Core of concentrated black and red death energy inside the chest of a corpse, turning the corpse into a mindless undead soldier that he can control and command freely. Store Undead is self-explanatory, he can store upto a thousand undead soldiers in a space similar to an Item Box Skill. And finally, Summon Undead, which brings out the stored undead soldiers. And that covers everything, that’s all his abilities," Concluded Samsara quietly.

A thousand? Shit...he’s going to try and add as many powerful Mutants to his ranks as he can before he makes his next move, isn’t he? I doubt he’s still in Sanctuary Alpha, he probably had that undead Teleporter take him outside of the Sanctuary and get a fair amount of distance away.

"Well...shit. Alright, it is what it is...send us back, we need to share this info with the others and come up with a game plan," I sighed, starting to get a headache.

"Of course, right away. Oh, one more thing! What your friend Jaden Xeno was saying before I bright you here, how Turn Undead is an undead killing ability in your video games...I already knew that, but to me, it sounds more like an ability that turns things undead, so-..."

"They don’t care, Samsara. I’m sending them back," Uranus cut her off in exasperation, before suddenly, I found myself back by the abandoned warehouse, with Aria and Jaden.

"Fuck...," Muttered Cleo with a tense look on her face.

"Uh, you guys good? You looked like you zoned out for a sec there," Remarked Jaden, a look of concern on his face.

"We, uh...we’ve got a lot to tell you guys," I sighed, rubbing the sides of my head as I took a moment to compose myself.
