Chapter 741: Chapter 741: Ten Days Since

"Not good enough. Your Divine Lightning attacks are faster and inflict more damage than your Lux attacks, so you’re a lot better off using the former for ranged attacks," I advised Baraqiel, as he collapsed onto one knee wearily.

"Wouldn’t mixing it up make things more unpredictable?" He asked me, as he slowly got back onto his feet.

"Not necessarily. Use Lux when you have to fire attacks while not having the luxury of charging it up. Your Divine Lightning is only faster when you have time to charge up. But if you’re in a situation where you have to quickly fire off an attack, Lux is faster than Divine Lightning.

But Divine Lightning inflicts more damage, plus there’s the electrocution effect. Also, when it comes to triggering blinding flashes, you can do that with both, but Lux is brighter and flashes out faster. And, of course, you can generate and maintain constructs using Lux, like blades of light.

So, Lux is the better option at close-range, though I bet it’ll be even more effective if you can use Divine Lightning simultaneously, like wrapping a blade of light in crackling streaks if lightning, for example," I surmised in response.

"Huh, that’s a pretty good idea, and shouldn’t be too difficult to pull off. I’ll try it out. You know, I haven’t really put much thought into how my abilities work, but now that you mention it, yeah, pretty much everything you said sounds about right," He nodded thoughtfully.

"Mhm, you should make sure you have an understanding of how your abilities work. Also, when I said that your weaker Divine Lightning attacks are slower than your Lux attacks, that doesn’t necessarily mean you should only use Lux when you have to fire quickly.

When you charge up Divine Lightning high enough, it shoots out in a straight beam. But if you don’t have time to charge up, the lightning output comes in the form of branching, streaky bolts.

Meanwhile, Lux attacks always shoot straight. Which way lightning bolts branch out in can be hard to predict, especially in the heat of battle. Mixing them up at random isn’t necessarily ineffective, but if there’s deliberate intent between the timing and reasoning when you switch between your two options, you’ll develop a sense of intuition and gain the ability to switch between Divine Lightning and Lux in a more effective manner," I advised him.

"Hm, I don’t really understand, if I’m being honest. But you’re a lot more skilled than I am, so I’ll take your advise," He nodded in response.

It’s been ten days since Leto escaped, today’s the 16th of May, 2172. There’s been no sign of that bastard since his escape, the HUC has been trying to locate him with their satellites, but it’s no use.

Those satellites can detect large clusters of Mana, but even with his Power Level, they can’t locate him. It’s not so much the quantity of Mana but how spread out it is. The satellites can detect a group of several weaker Mana signatures clustered together more easily than a stronger Mana signature concentrated in one spot.

The larger Mutants like Leviathans, while less than half as powerful as Leto is, can be detected by the satellites since their Mana is spread out across their large bodies. But a single human’s Mana, no matter how powerful, is too concentrated around the individual’s body. While dense, the signal is simply too small for the satellites to pick up on.

Anyway, I’m currently busy training Baraqiel. He’s agreed to help us in the upcoming battle against Leto, he was on-board so quickly that I’m thinking the Gods must have told him to pitch in. Also, he didn’t seem particularly surprised by it.

Aria’s currently off training with Cleo and Ciel, while Jaden’s busy with some solo training. So far, no one’s come up with any ideas or strategies to defeat Leto, so yeah, there’s that.

All I can really do keep myself sharp and ready for when he makes his next move, and make sure the others are ready too. And that includes Baraqiel. Besides me and Aria, he’s the only one who’s truly immune to Leto’s instant death ability. Cleo can only survive it once a day, and Jaden only for five minutes, while using Spirit Fusion with Cure.

Alright, time to focus up...

"Let’s keep going. Let my advise sink in and then utilize it in this next round," I instructed Baraqiel.

"Got it. Here I come!" He exclaimed, lightning bursting out and wrapping around his body as he shot towards me, his hair standing up on end.

He formed a blade of light along his right hand as he closed in and leapt towards me, swinging the blade down. I swiftly raised my left hand and expanded the jaws of Drain, swallowing up his light blade before rapidly whipping my foot up as he charged lightning into his other hand and drove it towards me.

My foot struck the middle of his forearm, the trajectory of his arm jerking up and whizzing over the top of my shoulder. I then extended out several tendrils of Negative Energy as he began to back away, grabbing his wrists and ankles.

He gritted his teeth before sharply intensifying the lightning wrapped around him, focusing it around his wrists and ankles before triggering a powerful electric burst, blasting the restraints off before his eyes widened in alarm as I shot forward and closed in.

I slammed my palm against the middle of his torso before he could react, eliciting a sharp gasp of pain from him as I unleashed Mana Pulse, a violent shudder erupting across his body as he stumbled back and collapsed onto his knees.

"C-Come on, you have to stop using that...it hurts like crazy, nothing like physical damage, which I barely even feel. The only worse pain I’ve felt is from that Shuffle Skill your Dragon Apostle possesses," He groaned, trembling as he tried to get back up, only to collapse again.

"I figured some pain would give rise to a bit of desperation to avoid getting hit again, and speed up your progress and rate of improvement. But I guess it’s counterproductive when hitting you with Mana Pulse leaves you in a weakened state that takes a good ten minutes to fully recover from.

Maybe we should take a break until-...hm. Actually, on second thought, let’s keep going...fighting while you’re not at your best could help improve your overall ability when you’re back to a hundred percent," I mused thoughtfully.

"Uh, not sure I like the sound of that...you’re going to hit me with a whole lot more of those Mana Pulses, aren’t you?" He realized in dismay.
