Chapter 740: All But Assured

Chapter 740: Chapter 740: All But Assured

Point-of-View: Leto Nex/Reaper, The Undead King

———————————————————————————

I took out some spare clothes I had stored in my Item Box and put them on, shaking my head to get the water out of my hair as I made my way towards a cave.

I took a seat as I stepped inside, leaning against the wall as I stared up at the rocky ceiling with a grimace. I then opened my Item Box and took out my I-Watch, taking a look at the time.

Shit, it’s been almost thirty hours since I set out into the ocean, I was stuck getting eaten and digested over and over for more than a day. Yeah, definitely not doing that again.

I brought up my I-Watch display as I strapped it onto my wrist, going through social media...ah, looks like the information about me has been made public. I wonder what kind of safety and countermeasures they’re taking against me, I don’t see any posts or articles about that.

They must know, or at least assume, that I have my I-Watch, so they’re avoiding revealing anything I can use against them. When I first reincarnated in this era and learned about how privacy is taken super seriously, with it being impossible to track or monitor people’s I-Watched and their online activity, I thought it was bullshit.

Like, there was no fucking way that the government isn’t secretly doing exactly that...but now, it seems like it’s really true. When I was on the run in Sanctuary Alpha, they never tracked me down until I came out into the open and got spotted.

And even now, while outside of the Sanctuary, no one’s come after me. They really don’t have a way to track I-Watches, do they? How stupid...but I’m certainly not complaining, this makes things so much easier for me.

I just wish I’d packed more clothes in my Item Box, though. I’ve only got a few outfits left. The one I was wearing before was completely destroyed by the X-Aces, and the second one I put on to replace it was melted away by that Leviathan’s stomach acid.

The black and red energy that’s constantly swirling around me is dense and dark enough that you can’t really see anything unless you look really closely...but I’d rather not walk around naked.

Well, it’s fine, I’ll just grab a bunch of outfits when I make my next move and attack one of the Sanctuaries. Which would be a lot easier if I could teleport freely.

But the Teleporter I added to my ranks, he can’t seem to access the teleport points he set up while he was alive, he can only teleport a maximum distance of half a kilometer in a given direction.

When I directly command and control my undead forces, I can instinctively tell what they’re capable of and what’s beyond their abilities. Well, it’s fine, this is good enough.

I can use my I-Watch’s map to keep track of where I am and where the Sanctuaries are once I’m ready to target them. But for the time being, I’m in no particular rush, I’m happy to take my time and be as best prepared as I possibly can be.

And I have no reason to rush this either. Not only do I no longer need to eat food or drink water, but I’m physically incapable of it. I had a bit of food and a couple of water bottles in my Item Box, but when I tried to eat, my body physically reacted and I found myself ejecting it back out. The same happened with water.

Seems this is what it means to be undead. After that, I wanted to see if I’d lost any of my other desires, and it looks like I’ve completely lost my libido and sexual desire. Porn didn’t do anything for me, and I just couldn’t get turned on.

You’d think I’d be devastated by that, but...I really don’t care. My desire to kill everyone who opposes me and take control of the world for myself haven’t faded, if anything, they’ve gotten stronger.

Which means, I’m still myself, I’ve just evolved past the more base human desires, I’ve ascended beyond that. In fact, it feels like I have a better handle on my emotions now...they’re all still there, but I can control them now, instead of letting them control me.

I feel less angry all the time, I can think more clearly, logically and objectively...but like I said, that doesn’t mean those emotions have disappeared. I’ve just gained the ability to suppress them.

In the grand scheme of things, nothing has changed. Everyone I want to kill, I still want to kill them, I’m still intent on making them pay.

But I still need to make more preparations before I’m ready to do that. I need to increase the number of my forces and add some powerful options to those numbers, and I myself need to get stronger too.

I’ll keep hunting Mutants to improve and sharpen my combat skills, and once I kill them, I’ll add them to my undead ranks. And once I’m satisfied with both the quantity and quality of my forces, I’ll make my move.

I’ll target one of the Sanctuaries and raze it to the ground, killing everyone who dares get in my way. Kaivel Intrix and the other X-Aces, it won’t matter how powerful they are, I’ll exterminate them and turn them into my undead soldiers.

By the time I’m done, there’ll be no one left to get in my way, and the survivors I decide to spare are sure to fall in line, the undead X-Aces will execute my will. I do want to enjoy the luxuries this futuristic era has to offer, after all, so I need to keep some people alive to keep society going, I’d rather not live in an apocalyptic wasteland.

Ah, but I’m getting ahead of myself. There’s still a lot that needs to be done before I reach that point. Well, not that I need to worry. My victory is all but assured, it’s only a matter of time.
