This great and sudden change in my blades composition affected my soul as well. It was like a light burn creeping through my core and spreading across my body.
A familiar one at that.
'This is like when I first laid my hand upon that Ehlnofey weapon.' I thought seriously.
The feeling was very similar though with an important distinction. Touching the weapon was like my essence recognizing it's own potential and yearning to shift towards it while this was an actual change. My essence was truly shifting at this moment into a state closer to that of that ancient spiritual state.-
This wasn't all good news however as thanks to my soul sublimating slightly like this I felt the chains on my being from the world and gods for the first time. These chains existed to keep the potential of mortals limited and well, chained. They could be cast off of course as Lorkhan naturally wouldn't allow his creation to be without hope but it was not easy. With my new perception I could feel these binds choking me as I strained against them. It was also quite obvious to me that I had already snapped a few of them. -
I couldn't tell what these ones were but I could hazard a guess. The first was likely related to my body. Through my long term maximization of my body I had forced it to approach and surpass the innate limitations the gods placed on mortal bodies. This binding was what forced mortals to have such frail forms naturally. My body by contrast was solid like stone and had never suffered illness from pure resilience. The second was likely on my soul itself. To be specific the bind on the strength of the soul. -
As a transmigrator my soul was unnaturally powerful to begin with. But with the sword in it the composition was even denser as well which pretty much meant that at least some of these bindings flat out never took hold. After this came the bind on magicka. Perhaps I was mistaken but the darkening process was one that purposefully shattered one of the many binds on the magicka of mortals. It also explained how my own darkening was an easy process for me. The bindings are divine in nature so naturally divine power can shatter them.-
As for whether Nocturnal meant for this to happen? Well that was anyone's guess.
Now I had likely broken another binding on my soul as this sublimation took hold. Perhaps this was supposed to be the purpose of my blade. Not just as a mere weapon but as a tool to shatter my mortal limitations through devouring the essences of other weapons and fusing them together. The soul was the anchor of the being so as my soul sublimated so too did my body. Not enough to snap any more of these bindings however but close enough to a few that I felt as though I were in a slightly too tight shirt.-
It was not painful exactly so much as just rather uncomfortable. There was nothing for it however as I had no more weapons that I would be feeding my blade for now. Having experienced this as I have I simply threw away any idea of feeding the Ehlnofey sword to my own at this time. I understood that it wasn't the sort of thing you use to build a tower but the final touch. Now done with the other part of my gains from the party I finally turned my attention to the stuff I gained from Mora.-
I already had a full understanding of the knowledge in the same way one might from reading it out of a book but full clarity of understanding would take careful meditation. So that's what I did. When I wasn't wowing the inn keeper with my master class cooking I sat in my room and meditated on what I learned and what exactly it meant. Much of this knowledge that I gained came with fundamental insights that my studies before now didn't cover. These insights once fully grasped broke the shackles on most of my magic skills.-
Not literally but in the way you naturally over came bottlenecks through understanding and experience. I hadn't jumped into the deep end of these sets of knowledge after all but from the very bottom of them. I would say it took me nearly a day to get halfway through just the knowledge of Dawn magic. There was nothing for it really as there were a vast amount of new insights lost to time that I had to reconcile with my previous understanding and even rewrite some of it as I found flaws on both sides. -
I did not get further than this however when Alontar showed up with grave news.
"The Thalmor know you are here and are coming for you." he said with a dread filled expression.
"Are you certain?" I asked seriously as I stood up to my new height of seven foot even.
He paused slightly as he noticed to sudden growth spurt but clearly rationalized it away due to my age.
"An emergency message from the resistance arrived just minutes before now. The Thalmor regiment nearest Karghistan has set to march with Karghistan as it's destination and no secret was made about why." he said gravely.
"What kind of numbers are we talking here?" I asked equally grave.
"Estimates of one thousand units, the maximum the regional commander can field upon his own authority. A equal mix of mages and warriors." he answered.
"Fuck. There goes rune trapping. Do we know how they learned I was here?" I asked seriously.
"One of the farmers. The Thalmor have his daughter captive so he is forced to send them information to keep her safe." he said with a sigh.
"Aye, that'd do it. No love for the Thalmor there but a spy all the same. Dead I take it?" I asked and he nodded.
"Morghul was furious he hadn't realized that loophole in the questions before. He's scanning the rest of the population now extra thoroughly. No more have been found yet but I believe there must be at least one more." he said frowning deeply.
"Do we know where they are coming from? The direction I mean." I asked seriously.
"North east, a three days march." he said.
"Good that will give me time to prepare." I say seriously.
"What's the plan?" he asked.
"This isn't your fight. I brought this force upon this town and so I'll deal with it myself." I say firmly.
"I will not allow you to face an army alone. I don't fear death. But I would dishonor my oath to the line of Alysaen if I did not try and fight." he said with firm conviction.
I place my hand on his shoulder with a smile.
"You do yourself great honor. But I can not allow that." I say before casting [Slumber] on him and force him into unconsciousness.
